So thought it would be nice to spice it up a bit and modify some Korean noodles for breakfast. So I picked the basis to be the Ottogi Jin Ramen.
Why not right? Some of the stuff that most folks are more used to – big bowls of noodles with easy to understand flavors like chicken and not some kind of melange of paste and rice noodles. Yeah why not.
Some noodles from Thailand today. I’ve reviewed some noodles that are by MAMA and Tom Yum but not the creamy.
So after a long walk I was really quite hungry and decided to go with something simple and figured this would taste nice. Fresh shrimp sounds nice. I also really love how this brand has the text in another language – looks like dutch perhaps? Frisk Rekesmak!!!
Thought it was a bowl something – didn’t expect it would be a bowl of not noodle!
Okay so last time I have something by this brand I really didn’t like it at all. But maybe this stuff will be better. Hear the decree of the Ramen Rater! I fear no noodle! I use full flavor sachet! I am invincible!
So here’s what I currently have to review – 20 different packages. I am pretty sure there should be lots more out there to pick up no problem. I still go out on my daily trips to the local asian groceries. I try to only get a single pack of noodles but it can be hard as they’re so cheap. With the advent of the city of Edmonds’ no single use plastic bag law, I had to dig out my backpack to carry things in. Irritating…
So again this morning asked Kit to choose which pack of noodles I should have. She told me to go ahead with the peppered beef. Sounds good to me!
So Kit tried the Pork flavor of this line a while back. I thought chicken with shallots sounded quite nice so here we go. I must admit it feels like there’s a lot of pouches in this one!
Thought Miso would turn out to be kind of boring so I’ve been putting it off. But it was a choice today between Sapporo Ichiban Miso and Ottogi Jin Ramyun and Kit picked the Miso so here we go!
Neat looking stuff with a funny name… Looked it up online and it mentioned beef and radishes… Hmm…
Okay. Last time I had duck noodles was a long long time ago and it was Myojo’s hat in the ring. Now here’s MAMA’s duck flavor.
Some Vietnamese vegetarian noodles eh? Why not. 59 cents is pretty cheap too. The packaging is quite engaging with all the nice looking vegetable on it!
So this is an interesting one. The package weighs practically nothing and the noodle blocks is extremely thin. Weirdness….
So here’s a new one… Never tried Shirakiku ramen before! So here goes..
One solitary packet of powder.
So this is where I originally started getting the instant noodles. My folks took me here when I was very young as a regular destination for food.
So this stuff is uber elite – probably one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had in the world of instant noodles. It’s 5 / 5 stars right off the bat. I’ve had this maybe three or four times and every time I find it just a little more amazing.
Wai Wai? Because because I’m done with folding laundry and it’s lunch. So I’m making some of this stuff. By the way – notice that little dude on the packaging? Apparently there’s a celebrity chef in Thailand called McDang and he has a kind of guide to the best stuff. So this stuff is supposedly good according to McDang.
Doll Brand eh? Hmm… Haven’t had any noodles by these guys in a long time. Shrimp sounds good this morning. Let’s give them a try. I like how it also let’s me know that they are yummy by exclaiming that they are yummy right on the front of the package – that’s useful consumer information right there!
So the new place I found, Boo Han Oriental Market, is really making me happy already. Looky here, looky here – curry ramen!
So yeah, I eat a good amount of ramen noodles. I also walk a lot. I walk to where I get my ramen noodles all the time. Well this week I’ve started going a longer route – going an extra mile. By doing so I found this place: Boo Han Oriental Market. I can’t see very well so once I was walking on the other side of the road I was hip to it…
Beef. Not usually really an ‘out there’ or ‘exotic’ flavor. Seems like most Korean noodles are more along the lines of spicy or seafood. So I guess we’ll see how this one stacks up.
Chicken and pork. I have heard jokes about picken and chork made but never really thought of the two being brought together. I guess We’ll see if this combo works or not.
So sometimes I’m looking for some new ramen and see it but it only seems to come in a 5 pack. Nowhere else in the noodle aisle do they have it… That’s really annoying! This was one such variety but I finally found it at a new Asian market I found today out of nowhere across from 99 Ranch Market in Edmonds. Anyways, here’s Paldo brand Bibim Men Oriental Style Noodle
So I thought why not do a head to head – same company, should be same noodles right? First off the left is the Demae Ramen, more of the kind that you would find in Japan or Hong Kong and to the right is the United States version. The Demae is a bigger brick of noodles and says it is one serving while the Top Ramen is smaller yet says it is two servings.
So I’m going to make a special dinner tonight for my lady and I – we’re gonig to have Nissin Chicken Top Ramen and Nissin Demae Ramen concurrently and review and compare both. Well, I thought hey why not have a small pack of this filipino ramen noodle stuff, I mean, I’m a little hungry so why not.
MAMA Pad Kee Mao… The pack is shiny and shows a seriously elaborate dish… Not really much of anything in English on this one.
Look at those big deadly looking red peppers! This should be interesting. Usually stuff you’d find around here domestically would be on the weak side if it had a pepper being shown. We’ll have to see if this stuff lives up to the flavor of hot taste! I’m also very curious if I like this better than Shin Ramyun. I’ve really been enjoying the Ottogi products…
So here are Wai Wai instant chicken flavor noodles. Hmm.
I really liked the packaging of the sachets. The ‘essence’ was interesting to be sure. The chili packet wasn’t used as my 5 year old had this bowl of noodles but i opened it and tried them. Spicy sun peppers – nothing shocking. Then, a blue packet with oil.
So here’s something new – pho. Chicken pho. I think this probably won’t live up to its name but we’ll see.
Gomtang huh? Sounds like a Star Trek alien creature that’s been traveling possibly hundreds of thousands of years across space to find it’s final resting place in the vicinity of a star about to go nova. But I don’t think that’s what they’re going for here.
So look what we have here – plain ramen noodles! Yup – that’s it. A brick of noodles with no spices.
Nam Vang? Phnom Penh style? Looks interesting to be sure. A lot of words on this bag!

This is a trip – both are powder packets. I usually see a powder and an oil but rarely two powders.
I got this stuff literally a few years ago and it’s been sitting about 90 miles away in a dark cupboard since. It’s a strange one.

So I’ve been walking by this one for a couple months now debating when to get it. I got it the other day and now I’m going to try it out. Looks interesting – the name certainly is.
So look! More Korean noodles! Let’s see what we’ve got here! Certainly looks interesting but I have no idea what it is. Black bean paste is mentioned prominently in the ingredients, so perhaps that’s the flavor? Upon digging around a bit, I found this from Wikipedia:
