THE NEW LIST FOR 2023 SUPERCEDES THE PREVIOUS LIST – SEE HERE
It’s been twenty years since I started this crazy journey of reviewing instant noodles. I never even envisioned I’d be doing it for twenty years; it was just something to try out way back when. There have been ups and downs in the past – and recent past. I ended up getting COVID (as did the rest of my family) in early January this year. It wasn’t too bad in itself, but the repercussions were. I ended up in the ICU for blood clots in my lungs. It’s happened before when I slept ten hours on a cramped flight – but this time didn’t make sense as I walk a whole lot. Anyways, I’m better now, but it’s been a tough go to be sure. I hope all of you reading are happy and healthy!
On a happier note, I’m especially proud to present The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2022 Edition – my top picks out of reviews up to #4120. Everything here is just magnificent – the cream of the crop. All my scoring is done before I add any garnish. This is a real labor of love for me, so I hope you enjoy the list and maybe try something new! With that, may I present The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2022 Edition.

#10: Best Wok Mi Goreng Original – Indonesia
A great marriage of the classic flavors that make mi goreng great – sweet, spicy and salty. What I really like about this one is that it’s not dry; it’s not mi rebus which is very wet, but has a nice oiliness to it which really worked well. Original review | Get It Here
#9: A1 Mi Kari Laksa – Malaysia
This is one that I got from a reader awhile back. A nice and creamy broth with a strong cumin richness and very tasty. Noodles are on point and it all comes together very well. Original review | Get It Here
#8: Prima Taste Singapore Wholegrain Curry LaMian – Singapore
A nice, thick chewy noodle is married to a broth with the nicest curry flavor. It’s really luxuriant and thick, with richness and spices throughout. Just as good as can be. Original review | Get it here
#7: Red Chef Green Tom Yum Soup Noodles – Malaysia
An interesting and unique twist on tom yum here. A rich and hearty broth with a tart and tangy nature and a spiciness comes together with a great instant noodle. Very unique and delightful. Original review | Get it here
#6: Red Chef Spicy Sakura Prawn Soup Noodles – Malaysia
A very strong and spicy prawn broth – sweet too – and an excellent noodle. The best part? Fried onions on top that aren’t pulverized but of good size that really set it all off. There’s also a non-fried noodle and rice vermicelli version as well which is just as good. Great for prawn fans. Original Review | Get it here
#5: A-Sha LaoTao Beef and Tendon Noodles – Taiwan
A big box of the best beef noodle I’ve ever had. First, the dry noodle is non-fried and very good. The broth comes in a very large pouch that you heat up. Also comes with pickled vegetables. The beef and tendon meat is definitely not skimped on. Just sensational! Original review | Get it here
#4: MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle – Malaysia
When MyKuali debuted this masterpiece in 2013, it really blew my mind. Since then, it’s gone through multiple iterations of recipe style, and now has returned to it’s original glory – and then some! Spicy, savory and rich! Original Review | Get It Here
#3: Red Chef Hae Bee Hiam Dried Noodles – Singapore
Much like the spicy prawn earlier in this list, this one packs a seriously strong, spicy and sweet prawn taste. The difference here is a non-fried noodle and no broth. If you’re like me and you love the strong flavors of Malaysia, this is truly amazing stuff. Original Review | Get it here
#2: Mom’s Dry Noodle Scallop & Hua Diao Wine Chicken Noodle Soup – Taiwan
I’ve reviewed well over 4000 instant noodle varieties, and of those a huge amount are chicken flavored. This eclipses every single one – and then some. We start with an air dried noodle. Then we add a broth which is thick and luxuriant and multi layered; chicken, wine, and scallop flavors burst through in nice amounts. Finally, whole pieces of chicken are in here and it’s so good. You end up with a bowl of noodle soup that tastes like something you’d get at a fancy restaurant. Beautiful stuff! Original review | Get it here
#1: Prima Taste Singapore Wholegrain Laksa LaMian — Singapore
I fell in love with this product the first time I tried it. It’s got a thick and rustic noodle with a strong tooth, and then the broth. It’s very rich and thick with a beautiful look to it; red oil bubbles dance around like rubies. It’s been at the top of my favorites list for years – for a good reason. Original review | Get it here

Definitive Guides
This year, I’ve decided to do a special series called Definitive Guides. Recipes, trivia, history, and more on some of the most loved and fascinating varieties of instant noodles around the world! So far, I’ve got one on Nongshim’s Shin Ramyun, and Indomie’s Mi Goreng and Nissin Foods’ Cup Noodles Pumpkin Spice! Future guides will include MAMA Tom Yum, and more. My plan is do feature one or two products from each country.

The Ramen Rater App For Android
The Ramen Rater App for Android has been given a whole new look and functionality. You can scan bar codes to see reviews I’ve done while at the store, peruse the top ten lists, and do simple searches. It’s really great – even a dark mode! Best of all it’s free and currently ad-free.
The Ramen Rater Shop
People have been asking where to get a lot of varieties and so I’ve partnered with Exotic Noods to bring you The Ramen Rater Shop. Here you’ll find an expending variety of instant noodles at a pretty decent price. You’ll be able to try a wide array of varieties and not have to buy a ton of each variety. I really wanted to have a way you could just buy a single pack of two at a time. The same way I do when I visit an Asian grocery.
