#10: Ibumie Penang White CurryMee
This is a very accessible and great starter for those who want to delve into the fine world of Malaysian instant noodles. A great noodle, couples with a luxuriant curry broth with strong notes of cumin. It’s really quite good. Original review | Get it here
#9: Meet Mee Malaysia Chili Pan Mee
This is a really neat newcomer to the instant noodle world of Malaysia. This instant hit features a great noodle and little bits of fish which are really neat. A savory and flavorful wonderful representation of the flavors of the local fare. Exotic and lovely. Original review | Get it here
#8: Mamee Chef Curry Laksa
First, I want to take a moment to send my sympathies to the company – their founder passed in 2022. A great, tasty curry laksa. Pairing their special noodle made with technology that emulates hand-pulling noodle technique, the noodle is introduced a flavorful curry laksa broth. The included vegetables sachet also features tofu puff which is really great. Just one of many amazing products from this juggernaut of Malaysia. Original review | Get it here
#7: KampongKu Curry Seafood Fried Noodles
New to the list is KampongKu, (which translates to My Village). Their goal is to bring authentic foods from Penang’s paradise of flavor to the market. This one was my favorite – a great mi goreng style seafood curry with strong flavors. The paste they use is great – nice and chunky! Worth a try if you can get some! Original review | Get it here
#6: A1 Mi Kari Laksa Curry Laksa Noodle
This one is a big pack of noodles, paste, and powder . I was given this by a fellow noodle fan a little while back and it was the focus of my ‘How I review’ video which you can see on the original review link. A great noodle with a savory and luxuriant broth worth finding and trying! Original review | Get it here
#5: MyKuali White Fish Broth Rice Vermicelli
This one is definitely on my list to have some more of this morning – wish I had some! Combining rice vermicelli with a savory seafood broth brings a great taste of Malaysian cuisine. A bit salty and very much packed with umami. Highly recommend this top ten lister! Original review | Get it here
#4: Red Chef Green Tom Yum Soup Noodles
In this twist on the standard tom yum you might know of, this one brings a tart and tangy punch of flavors. The noodle is an excellent gauge with a superb chewiness. It’s really quite unique and excellent – give this one a try as it’s not too hard to find! Original review | Get it here
#3: Red Chef Spicy Sakura Prawn Soup Rice Vermicelli & Noodles
This version comes with not only an air dried wheat noodle but rice vermicelli as well. It’s amazing stuff – the opriginal fried noodle version is truly wonderful as well. It is said by famous YouTuber Uncle Roger that shrimp paste is ‘white people kyptonite.’ Not this white person, I assure you. I love the strength of prawniness here – if you like strong, sweet and spicy prawn, give it a try! Original review | Get it here
#2: MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle
The stuff of legend. MyKuali brough forth the juggernaut that is Penang White Curry in 2013 and since then it has become synonymous with strong curry flavor and exotic spices. It’s just in a world of it’s own – if you haven’t tried it, you’re really missing out. Original review | Get it here
#1: Red Chef Hae Bee Hiam Dried Noodles
As I mentioned above, I love strong prawn flavor. This is about the best spicy prawn savory noodle I’ve ever had. Period. Hae bee hiam is kind of hard to describe, but if you know what Lao Gan Ma Chili Crisp is, take that thought and translate a little to make it sweet spicy prawn. Just as savory and satisfying as can be; a no brainer for the number one spot. Original review | Get it here
Special Mention
I was contacted by a company called Homiah in late 2022. They have a wide array of products that feature pastes and flavors of southeast asia which are just absolutely spot on and wonderful! What’s nice is that you can get them here in the United States! Check ’em out!

The Ramen Rater Recipe Experiments
Ever thought of what you can make when instant noodles are an ingredient? Well, if not I have. A lot. I started with making breads last year – even breads with flour make from fried noodles that were ground into a fine powder. Logically, the next step was pizza – everyone likes pizza, right? Finally, I’ve done a few different ice creams. Check the Special Features section to see all of these experiments!
Definitive Guides
This year, I’ve decided to do a special series called Definitive Guides. Recipes, trivia, history, and more on some of the most loved and fascinating varieties of instant noodles around the world! So far, I’ve got one on Nongshim’s Shin Ramyun, and Indomie’s Mi Goreng and Nissin Foods’ Cup Noodles Pumpkin Spice! Very recently, I released a Definitive Guide To Maruchan Ramen Noodle Soup. Future guides will include MAMA Tom Yum, and more. My plan is do feature one or two products from each country.

A Petition To Benefit Those In Need
For the last few years, a thought has been bouncing around in my head. Why is there a spot to donate a dollar to elections on tax returns? I think that little spot can be better by donating a dollar or some set amount to Veterans who are living in poverty. At the end of tax season, the donations can go to all who qualify. I think that would be a good thing. I started a petition to do this, and if you’re in the USA, you can sign it here and please feel free to share it around! Thanks!
The Ramen Rater App For Android
The Ramen Rater App for Android has been given a whole new look and functionality. You can scan bar codes to see reviews I’ve done while at the store, peruse the top ten lists, and do simple searches. It’s really great – even a dark mode! Best of all it’s free and currently ad-free.
