Over 5,000 Instant Ramen Noodle Reviews Since 2002

Hey everyone! I’m excited to announce a new contest with the folks at Ramen Express! By following the contest rules, you can enter to win a t-shirt – and you can do a little extra and if you win a shirt, you’ll win a hat as well! Pretty cool!

Bowls, cups, , trays, packs, and boxes. Well, I haven’t done a list of boxed or tray-style instant noodles – maybe that will come soon. But I think that separating these is important. The experience that a cup is meant for is different than a cup or bowl. Cups are more for a snack on the go, packs for when you’ve got a stove, and bowls are, well, for lunch. Although in the finished shots of these you’ll see them plated here, generally people will be looking at the bowl they came in, possibly using the plastic fork they came with, and tossing everything once they’re done. These are my favorites, current as of review #3545. Let’s have a look at The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodle Bowls Of All Time 2020 Edition.

So as many of you know, I’ve lost a ton of weight in the last two years. I started in October 2018 and now am down 160 pounds. One thing that has kept me motivated was changing things up to keep it interesting. At the end of last month, I’d done the most steps I’d ever logged on my Fitbit – close to 900,000. I thought hey – maybe I can get to 900,000 in June 2020. Then I thought hey – whynot a million?

I’ve been doing these Prison Style Burritos for a while – usually with varieties not found by inmates in prisons. I went to India Supermarket over in Bellevue, Washington yesterday and got these ingredients and made this monstrosity. Enjoy!

Despite all the tumultuous and unnerving events of our current age,, I am happy to announce that I’ve got a new list for our year, 2020. In the past fe hundred reviews I’ve done this past year there have been some real standouts and of course many have remained. These are my absolute favorites of reviews 1 through 3487. It’s hard – I feel like I should be doing a top 20, or even a top 50 at this point, but the sheer amount of time that would take with being a stay at home father of two while trying to get in a few hours of exercise every day just isn’t in the cards. I’m hoping in the coming months to come out with the regular top tens and maybe some new ones, but it’s a tough juggle these days.

I hope you’re ready to sit and watch the creative juices flow. I’ve been kind of sitting here ruminating over a sandwich for a while. As I don’t ever really eat sandwiches these days, I wanted to make something really good. This fits that bill. This will make you happy to be in quarantine. Because you can spend time with this sandwich. It’s something that I will make again, that’s for sure. Now, bear witness to the finest ramen grilled cheese sandwich in the entirety of the universe.

The world has gone bonkers. We’ve got that pesky Coronavirus gnashing it’s teeth, and numerous other oddities making daily life less enjoyable that usual.

I thought I’d do a quick update as to everything I’ve been doing to attempt to lose weight. Winter has come. Harder to have the ability to get outside – who wants to walk in the pouring rain? Plus, lots of vacation time for kids so stuck at home a lot. Here’s a new video about what I’m doing. plus I did a recipe using a couple ingredients including Hakubaku Udon noodles – it’s pretty quick – not going to say it’s only 5 calories, but it’s super good.

People have been asking me for a list of healthy varieties for a long time. I decided to give it a try, and had mixed results. I’ve found things ramen/instant noodles, and things that aren’t and listed them here. There aren’t ten things, but over the next year I’m guessing more will present themselves. It appears this is an ever-evolving market as a couple that were going to be included went off the market while I was editing this list! Not everything presented is for everyone, but I’m really hoping there’s something that will work and interest everyone. If you have any ideas for things that should be on next year’s list, please email me. With that, here (in no particular order) is The Ramen Rater’s Healthy Options 2020 Edition.

I thought in honor of the spooky holiday Halloween, I’d do a little roundup of images and videos from past and present involving things that seemed fitting. Eat, drink and be scary!

Usually, this is a summer list, coming out late July or early August. No more. Why? A couple of reasons – first, I’ve been busy. The whole diet and exercise thing has kind of taken over my life – which is good and a pain at the same time. I do a LOT of walking – often 15 miles in a day. This takes a lot of time and so there’s that. The other reason is that I’ve heard many ask why this list doesn’t come later in the year when it’s colder.

I thought to continue this series of Prison Ramen Burrito Recipes that you couldn’t get in prison since you can’t get these varieties, the next logical step would involve Shin Ramen/Ramyun. I ended up with the standard Shin Ramen as well as Shin Black in this one. It ended up being an enormous monstrosity!

How do you feel? Yeah – you feel better knowing you can make a lovely burrito out of Indomie Mi Goreng now, don’t you? Well, watch the video and then you will. I’ll walk you through the incredibly easy process step by step.

This is the seventh year of the Top Ten Taiwan Instant Noodles list! Every year, I’m truly amazed at the innovation and unique varieties coming from the beautiful island of Taiwan. If you haven’t had the experience of visiting, you really should – the food, the culture – it truly has been a life changing experience for me. Growing up, all I knew of Taiwan was labels on products that simply said ‘made in Taiwan’ – but it so much more. One aspect is the noodle, and they’re really unique and delicious. This is a list of my favorite out of the reviews I’ve done up to number 3,284. Many images you will see have garnish, however only the base product before any is added is what’s reviewed, as in all of my reviews. I hope you enjoy this year’s list and consider trying some of these great varieties if you’ve not tried before – they’re really great! With that, here’s the Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2020 Edition.

If you didn’t know, we also review chocolate. The Chocolate Break (www.thechocolatebreak.com) reviews chocolate in a weekly show I and my wife Kit produce. We’ve been doing it for over a year! Please check it out, why don’t you? Here’s the latest episode – it comes on YouTube, facebook and The Chocolate Break website weekly at 11am Los Angeles time.

Big thanks to Nick Bizarro – I found Maruchan Texas Beef Ramen Noodle Soup on eBay a little while back and asked if anyone wanted to buy them (it was a 24 pack and I only wanted two) and he did!

After years of resisting the common practice of naming these lists after the year ahead, I’ve finally decided I’d conform with societal norms and start doing this with this list. So, there won’t be a 2019 edition (although between you and me that’s what this is as it’s coming out in 2019 and not 2020, but whatever). All lists going forward will be this way. My brain will be okay with it eventually, kind of like how I used to lose my mind when people would pronounce sriracha ‘sirracha,’ which IS the correct way to do s. Time heals all chunks of illogic I suppose. But anyways, these are my favorite and most memorable cup varieties from my reviews up to number 3,180. Let’s take a look at The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodle Cups Of All Time 2020 Edition.

It’s that time again – time to run down the worst varieties I’ve ever had. That’s no small task either – this list is current as of review #3180. These are the ten worst ones, in my opinion, leaving a lasting negative impression on my taste buds. With that, I again give you what you want.

Every day when I review, I gather togethr the things I’m going to use when I garnish. Many of them are dry spices and seasonings. I try to get everything together prior to doing an episode of Instant Noodle Recipe Time.

Every year I come out with new lists in many categories. The more reviews I do, the more I figure the lists will change less and less. It amazes me though how much they do change and how much the industry evolves and changes. Here’s the latest list of bowls, current as on review #3180. All products are prepared according to labeling on the package, and scores are given before any external garnish is added. Let’s check out the Top Ten Instant Noodle Bowls for 2019!
This list usually comes out in January but there was an accident. Basically, I deleted the video I recorded back then! I redid the video earlier this month and so here we are. This list is current as of review number 3058. These are based solely on my personal taste and opinion. Some folks don’t like that and I was recently lectured that a company didn’t want to send samples because they were afraid I might not like their product and that I couldn’t be persuaded to give on company a better review over another. This made me proud I’m doing my job right. Let’s check the top ten Japanese list!

This is my list of my all time favorites (compiled up to review #3132). These are the best and most memorable varieties – some you’ll be able to find easily, some you won’t. In the images you see, you’ll see garnished bowls of noodles. Note – reviewing is done BEFORE products have anything externally added by myself, and I follow directions on the package – for better or for worse. I should also note that going forward, the official last day for companies to submit varieties to be considered for the annual top ten will be January 31st. That’s enough – let’s have a look at The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition!

I’ve always released the annual The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition on the Monday closest to April 20th, except for this year. It originally debuted at the beginning of this month, and I think many were confused. April 22nd will be the official release date of the list! See you tomorrow!

Are you ready? Here’s a recipe from Lane of Antlers, Oklahoma – thanks! Watch me cook it up on a special episode of Instant Noodle Recipe Time EXTRA!
Oh yeah – I’m going there. Maruchan Ramen is pretty versatile as are most instant ramen varieties – and now you can live the dream with is recipe for Maruchan Ramen Burritos!

This is a message from us, to you. A message about where you are and what we are about. A message of hope for the children, a message of dreams for the brighter future. A simply weird message, and one you might be terrified by and also enamored with at the same time.
The second top ten list of 2019 is for Hong Kong. It’s been a while since the last one and so I thought it was due. I recently was contacted by Tokyo Treat about trying their box and thought it would be neat to do an episode of The Chocolate Break with it – so we did! Check it out and hey – use coupon code THERAMENRATER for a discount – something great for Valentine’s Day!

It’s January 2019, and so it is time for the first of many Top Ten Lists. I always start the year with the latest South Korean Top ten. This list was compiled as of posting 3,058 unique reviews of instant noodles, 349 of which are South Korean. All varieties are manufactured in South Korea. If you are a company interested in having your products showcased, please drop me a line. Let’s begin!
So there’s a misconception (and assumption) that some people have made about me and what I do that’s kind of annoying and honestly rather infuriating. Some people seem to have the need to lecture me about what I eat and my weight.

I think the following post came out in 2011 or 2012 – either way, it was something I made before turkey was in the oven and done, and I think I ended up cheezing out on working the turkey magic – all the guts and skin pulling and funky just kind of nauseated me… So here’s what I made for breakfast that day. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

I know, I know. You’re probably like, ‘dude, are you really doing thing?’ The answer is yes. I was told by a professional that I should give this a go. I mean, why not – there’s the recipe. I think I can put a little spin on it though and why not. Maybe my son Miles will want to try it too? He’s three and knows probably as much about Kylie Jenner as I do. Like I say in the video here, all I know about Kylie Jenner is that her father used to be Bruce Jenner and changed gender and is now… Caitlynn Jenner – okay yeah that’s the name – I couldn’t remember. I know there’s a TV show with these people but I’ve never seen it and honestly don’t know why Kylie Jenner is famous (please comment below if you’re hip to that). But let’s give a try at these vague ingredient mentions and see what happens.

I want to start by thank you for having a look at this. 3000. It’s a pretty big number. I would never have achieved it without the help and support of my family- my mother who introduced me to the instant noodle at an early age, my father who introduced me to the world of Asian cuisine, my sister for supporting all of my niche ventures whether they be instant noodles or hot sauces or even robot skinning, my children for trying all these different flavors I’ve foisted upon them over the years. Most of all, I want to thank my wife Kit who has stood by me through thick and thin, been a sounding board for my ideas, waited patiently as I inspect every aspect of the noodle aisle at an Asian grocery, and stood by me through it all. I love you all.

I’d like to announce a new contest! Japan Crate and The Ramen Rater have partnered to do give away a free Umai Crate to a lucky winner! What’s an Umai Crate, you ask? It’s a monthly box that’s full of neat ramen from Japan! They feature unique varieties from all over Japan plus a bonus item (usually a kitchen implement), a recipe card, and a detailed pamphlet with background information and cooking instructions. Want one? Watch the video below and read on!

After years of camera shyness, my wife Kit has come forth and now we’ve got a show where we try chocolate! This is the Halloween episode, however there are many more to see!

In the past few years, I’ve noticed some shifts in the domestic instant noodle world. Shifting towards a little more healthy being the main thing, but also playing with more exotic flavors and ideas. Here are my favorite varieties out of the reviews up to #2,943 that are made in the United States. What you should also know is that if you live in the United States, these aren’t too hard to come by. If you’re a manufacturer or just a reader who has a variety you’d like to see reviewed, please contact me using the CONTACT form. With that, here’s The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten American Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition!

Another year gone by – hard to believe. As usual, many, many Taiwanese varieties have crossed my desk. This list comes as I’m about to hit 3,000 reviews as well. Pretty crazy. These are my favorite Taiwanese varieties out of all my reviews up to #2,943. As always, if you want me to try something I’ve not – drop me a line. With that, let’s check out The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition!

On August 25th, 1958, Momofuku Ando’s mission of creating the instant noodle was complete. Today we mark the 60th anniversary of the birth of its invention.
