I got an email from Ramen Now! recently asking if I’d like to examine their product and I thought this could be fun! The Ramen Now! is a plug-in device that allows the user to cook instant noodles simply and quickly, taking them from machine to table. Therte’s quite a few niceties here – the bowl it comes with is also useful as a serving bowl. It’s a small device. It works with a myriad of varieties. I was contacted recently by a gentleman from Mae Mai, a company making garnished. Alas, I screwed up – I did an unboxing video of their product, but I accidentally deleted the video! Well, I did it over and here it is. I’m in love with this garnish. It’s sweet, garlicky, onion, crisp, savory, and a little spicy. It’s my favorite recent discovery – try this stuff! It’s always great to get product samples in the mail, but it’s a little different when they’re for a Meet The Manufacturer series. It’s going to be the set I do consecutively for a period of time, so usually that means once I’ve check out the series of products, I’ve got to run out and get stuff to make them look nice when I plate them. This is a rad box with a story. Months ago, they were kind enough to send this over. However, customs got very freaked out about a box with little stuffed figures inside it; like it was a terrifying threat to national security! Well, I found this at my doorstep yesterday and was thrilled. A bonus was that my daughter Mimi had the day off from school, so we were able to do an unboxing together. She is really into these kind of things and the closest I can relate is I’m legally blind and these are blind boxes, so I must be compatible with them. So sit back and enjoy the video! In 2013, I got a lot of flak from Taiwan. My top ten and bottom ten lists were the focus – nothing on the top, a couple on the bottom insofar as Taiwan was concerned. I decided hey – maybe I should do a shout out to Taiwan and ask for some varieties. A-Sha was the first to answer that call. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to try different export varieties as well as Taiwan only ones that have been so impressive. A big Thank you to Aimee from the Ramen Junkies Facebook group! I’ve never had a Nissin Top Ramen corrections-style variety before and so this is the first and I’m STOKED. Every once in a while, I get a box from a guy named James from Lakeside, California and it’s always full of really neat stuff. He struck again and sent a box of all over the place – huge thanks to you, sir! Let’s look at everything – I’ll discuss them and have some images of varieties I’ve already reviewed since it arrived.
I was really surprised about this. I received an email from a fellow who had asked me some questions in the past and he told me he had an instant noodle supplement – vitamins, minerals – that kind of supplement. I was instantly fascinated and gave him my address. I have tried one – the immune support. I can report that it does not affect the flavor of instant noodle broth in any way that I could detect. I was recently contacted by Good Seoul – makers of some really great rice cake topokki and rapokki! Topokki (tteokbokki) is rice flour cylinders that have a soft and chewy texture. Alone, they’re really not tasty, but paired with sauce they’re quite addictive. Rapokki is when you have these and introduce wheat noodles as well, making for a dual-textured experience. Recently, I met the folks at Project Ramen and they’re pretty great. They’ve got a lot of different boxes and they sent the big one – 16 packs, 8 varieties. Some of them I’ve not reviewed. There’s definitely something for everyone and then some – and they’re from around the world, not just one country. Here’s my next to last of these varieties and I have to say I’ve enjoyed them so far. Nice chewy noodles, good Taiwanese style flavors. These are made for Momofuku, a restaurant founded by David Chang. A-Sha Dry Noodle is making these, so if you like their products, you’ll like these. Let’s cook it up!
As today is April 1st (April Fools Day), I was lucky enough to have a neat box of odd varieties my wife got me arrive yesterday. These can be found online at Walmart or you can just drag your smelly ass into a Walmart store. It should be known that while launch dates are usually on the boxes, Walmart rarely adheres to them when it comes to putting things out on the floor as I’ve found regarding previous exclusive things. With that being said, I’ll show you the quartet and let you know my initial thoughts. I should also mention – this isn’t a joke, it’s a real thing. But you shouldn’t be too surprised.
