#3349: No Name Beef Flavour Oriental Noodles And Soup Mix - Canada

Hey look – another one found at the Real Canadian Superstore up in Richmond, BC! It’s been over a month since we visited our wonderful northern neighbors. I really like Canada. It’s like a totally different country! Hoping next time we go we leave early enough to go to some shopping then head over to Stanley park. That place is neat – a beautiful park in Vancouver. Anyways, yeah – I like Canada! Let’s give this beefy beff a try.

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, I’m going to use the main dish instructions. Boil noodles in 500ml water for 3 minutes and drain. Add a pat of butter and heat, and then add sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

A dry sachet of soup base with little beef iconography.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added beef sauteed with soy sauce, scallions, and fried crispy garlic bits. The noodles are thinner than your average instant with a slight crumble and cheerful disposition. The beef flavor is mostly salty but it’s definitely beef. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 060383030070.

#3348: Rooster Hot & Spicy Flavour Noodle Soup - Canada

Well hello there. A Rooster pack from Canada. These are found at the Real Canadian Superstore – which is kind of like Canada’s answer to Walmart in an equally big box style. It’s a neat place – I generally get my peanut butter there as they have the 2kg jars of Kraft Crunchy and it’s so freaking cheap. Buying a couple of those defrays the cost of gas in savings compared to buying peanut butter here and it’s the best peanut butter I’ve had. Y3eah – I’m a connoisseur of peanut butter. Oatmeal too. I really freaking love peanut butter and oatmeal. Every morning. Every day.

These probably won’t be all that spicy, but what I’ve found is that they’re tasty. Let’s give em a try.

The noodle block.

A dry sachet of soup base.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added egg, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, pepper flake, baked chicken, and cilantro. Noodles are thin with a slight crumble and kind disposition. The broth does indeed have a little spicy fang to it which would be doubled with half the broth. Flavor it like a spicy lo mein – kind of strange but works well. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. I found these at the Real Canadian SuperStore up in Richmond, BC a while back. I’ve been quite surprised how good this very, well, boring packaged range is. It all ges to show that you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, or noodles by it’s wrapper. I’m reviewing this one on Canada Day! Let’s give it a try!

A dry sachet of soup base.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added baked chicken, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, chili oil, black sesame seeds, soft egg, fried onion, and spring onion. Noodles are thin and soft and provideo a nice quantity. The broth has a great kind of chili chicken flavor with a very light spiciness. I would have liked it better with less broth to strengthen the flavor. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.   UPC bar code 061483036665.

#3234: No Name Shrimp Flavour Oriental Noodles And Soup Mix - Canada

Another Loblaw’s variety found at the Canadian SuperStore. I like shrimp. Sounds interesting and lacking a name which I enjoy. My wife’s favorite color is yellow. Let us begin.

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Contains shrimp. To prepare, boil noodles in 500ml water for 3 minutes. Add in sachet. Finally, stir and enjoy! There is an alternate method on this one which I think sounds interesting so that’s what we’re going to do today – cook noodles in 500ml boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain. Add a pat of butter, sachet contents and stir. Add seafood and vegetables. Enjoy!

Another one from the Real Canadian SuperStore! Man, I just ran my knee into a metal bar that supports my desk. That really hurt. I’ve been doing a lot of walking yesterday – on my birthday last week I did 18,000+ steps – yesterday I did over 15,000. I’m knee deep into trying to walk as much as possible. I think by the time this post comes out I’ll have lost a lot more weight. I started in November, 2018. I was wearing size 48 pants – yeah… It’s March and I’m down to 42, so we shall see where I’m at then… Been trying to stick around 1,200 calories a day too… I’m going to bake some chicken to go with this one. I like chicken. Let’s look at this one.

Noodles are pretty good – nice gauge and hydrated well – not spongy. The broth has a satisfying chili flavor to it – not extremely spicy by any stretch. Works well. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 061483036801.

#3217: Bowlfull Beef Flavour Instant Noodle Soup - Canada

Found this at Dollarama, a dollar store up in Canada. A cup of beef. See the little microwave icon on the lower right? We don’t have a microwave currently. Our old one was 20 years old, give or take a year and I though ‘hey – we should get a new one.’ It seemed to be cooking things inconsistently so we went and ordered a new one. It was all screwed up so we returned it last night. Found another one which was really neat! Got it home, lugged it in, opened it up to see this –

#3217: Bowlfull Beef Flavour Instant Noodle Soup - Canada

Cracked front. So tomorrow we’ll be heading to the store again to return another stupid microwave. Thanks, Best Buy. Anyways I’ll do this one the old fashioned way. Let’s give it a try!

Made for Loblaw’s Canada, these Rooster varieties have been surprisingly good. In fact, despite having a very plain and generic look to them, they’ve all been really quite good. Will this bowl continue on in this way? Let’s find out!

Sadly, the noodles just didn’t hydrate enough in the alotted time, leaving them spongy. However the broth was really great. Five minutes would have dome this one much better. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 061483036641.

So here’s the second of the POP varieties I’ve seen. This one however is one I found at HMart up in Richmond, BC. Why’s it called Pot Or Pan? Well, you can make it as a broth version and a dry noodle version. Interesting! Let’s check it out!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added green onion and kamaboko. Udon had a flatter shape than most of the fresh pouch varieties usually do. Aside from that, nothing different here I could find. The broth was good – not such a sweetly flavored showing but more savory with better fish taste. Included garnish is vegetable and tempura was good. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.   EAN bar code 8801068090314.

#3115: Suraj Masala Noodles - Canada

Here’s another one found at The Real Canadian SuperStore up in Richmond, BC. These are made in China for Loblaw’s, a Canadian company that has a huge empire of supermarkets.

Back in the 70’s, William Shatner did some ads for Loblaw’s – don’t know how I happened upon them a few years back, but they’re pretty funny to see. Okay – let’s give this a go!

The flavor – and it just kills me – movie theater butter flavored microwave popcorn. I’m serious. It’s not bad actually and I found it enjoyable, but that’s definitely what I get out of this one. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 846656017784.
