Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

This list usually comes out in January but there was an accident. Basically, I deleted the video I recorded back then! I redid the video earlier this month and so here we are. This list is current as of review number 3058. These are based solely on my personal taste and opinion. Some folks don’t like that and I was recently lectured that a company didn’t want to send samples because they were afraid I might not like their product and that I couldn’t be persuaded to give on company a better review over another. This made me proud I’m doing my job right. Let’s check the top ten Japanese list!

#10: Nissin Cup Noodle Light+ Bagna Cauda

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

The Cup Noodle Light+ series has really impressed me; amazing how much flavor you get out of a low-cal cup. The noodles have a really nice quality to them – not mushy or anything; they’re just really good. The broth is saucy and hearty with a cheese and light fish taste which is augmented with vegetables galore. This is on the top ten cups list and now on the top ten japanese list. Original review

#9: Sapporo Ichiban Otafuku Okonomi Sauce Yakisoba

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

I’ve always really loved yakisoba and this is the best I’ve found in an instant form yet. Otofuku is a brand of yakisoba sauce that can be found almost anywhere, and it’s inclusion in this one is just perfection. What’s more, the noodles are garnished with green laver (flaked seaweed) and a little mayonnaise packet! Original review

#8: New Touch Sugomen Niigata Seabura Shoyu Ramen

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

The noodles hydrated very well and have one seriously good chew to them. The broth is equally amazing – a purely elegant shoyu broth with a good oiliness and great flavor. The vegetable bits hydrated very well and were of excellent quality. To top it off, it comes with a happy little slice of pork, which comes out just right. Original review

#7: Myojo Charumera Shio RamenTop Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

Shio translates to salt, although shio ramen varieties aren’t simply water flavored with salt. Often they have a slightly lighter broth than many other styles of ramen with a very tasty finish. This one was particularly interesting as it has a great amount of inclusions and an excellent noodle, along with a savory broth. Original review

#6: Itomen Bansyu Ramen

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

This one was memorable in it’s combination of a very soft (but not mushy) noodle and a broth which was like a sweet shoyu. It works incredibly well. Original review

#5: Marutai Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

The noodles came out just right – nice firmness and chew with that groovy flouriness Hakata ramen noodle have. The broth is luxuriant – nice and thick with a rich pork flavor and garlic taste. Just top notch tonkotsu. Original review

#4: Seven & I Gold Sumire Ramen

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

The noodles are thick and chewy – very premium. The broth has a very rich miso flavor that had a little thickness and a nice oiliness. The vegetables and bits hydrated perfectly – nice bits of ground meat and menma float happily about and are of good quality. Original review

#3: Itsuki Kumamoto Mokkosu Ramen

Top Ten Japanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 by The Ramen Rater

Noodle had a sturdy chew and nice gauge – came out superbly. Broth had a very good thickness to it and a balanced creaminess and a little spiciness to compliment the pork bone flavor.  Original review

#2: Nissin Cup Nooldes Nice Pork Shoyu (New Version)

#2: Nissin Cup Nooldes Nice Pork Shoyu (New Version)

Much like the Light+ range, these Nice Cup Noodle offerings use a lower calorie noodle. Add to that they are full of flavor and seem to bend the laws of nature but making this only 176 calories. It’s pretty amazing and quite delicious. Original review

#1: Nissin Gyoretsu-no-Dekiru-Mise-no-Ramen (Shrimp Tantanmen

#1: Nissin Gyoretsu-no-Dekiru-Mise-no-Ramen (Shrimp Tantanmen

Talk about amazing. Now, on most of these bowls, you’ll notice I’ve added my own garnishes. I don’t count them in my reviewing – everything is reviewed prior to any additions I make. This is one where I’ve added nothing and just look at it! This one had very good noodles to start off. The broth was a very thick prawn infused decadent flavor spectacle. Then there’s the little crunchy topping and the other garnish they provide and this is just amazing stuff. Wow. Floored. The top of the Top Ten Japanese varieties Original review

Big Changes For Me

Diet and exercise update

Some of you have been noticing I’ve been losing weight – thank you! In fact I’ve been working hard on that. Reviews I do are usually involving me eating maybe 5% of a bowl of noodles, if that. Everything else goes down the drain.

I keep my regime to around 1200~1500 calories a day. I’ve also been doing a lot of walking with my daughter Miriam. With her stroller decked out with lots of lights and a really loud speaker (I usually play a lot of Primus, Herbie Hancock and Tobacco), we walk all over town. My feet hurt, too! If you put together our walking from April 1st and April 2nd, it comes to 21.12 miles (33.989km)! No, that is NOT a typo. My doctor told me I had high cholesterol back in October and I decided to make some changes. As of April 26th, I’ve lost a total of 65 pounds and cholesterol is great, blood pressure is great!

TOP TEN 2019

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

This is my list of my all time favorites (compiled up to review #3132). These are the best and most memorable varieties – some you’ll be able to find easily, some you won’t. In the images you see, you’ll see garnished bowls of noodles. Note – reviewing is done BEFORE products have anything externally added by myself, and I follow directions on the package – for better or for worse. I should also note that going forward, the official last day for companies to submit varieties to be considered for the annual top ten will be January 31st. That’s enough – let’s have a look at The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition!

#10: Indomie Real Meat Mi Instan Goreng Rendang – Indonesia

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

The first Indomie variety on the list in years and it’s really amazing. Basically take their Mi Goreng Rendang and include a sachet of real rendang in a retort pouch. This comes after recently hearing that Indomie Rendang is hard to find here in the United States, something I was surprised to hear since it’s such a popular product and such a good one. Original review

#9: Sau Tao Tom Yum Kung Flavour Ramen – Hong Kong

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

I’ve become enamored and thrilled with the straight ramen noodle varieties in recent years – especially ones from Hong Kong which have been on the last two The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time lists. This is Sau Tao’s first appearance on the list. A Thai flavor is delivered masterfully – broth has a great richness and crispness of tom yum kung – spicy and lemongrass and shrimp notes play together very well. Original review

#8: Mom’s Dry Noodle Dan Dan Noodle – Taiwan

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

It’s second year on The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time, Mom’s Dry Noodles’ Dan Dan Noodle is just wonderful stuff. A broth-free offering with gourmet Taiwanese dry noodles, and myriad sauces that harmonize, salty, spicy, sweet and other flavors masterfully. Flavorful and deep. Original review

#7: Red Chef Green Tom Yum Soup Noodles – Malaysia

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

Another one returning to The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list, Red Chef’s Green Tom Yum Soup Noodles feature a fried noodle with a great mouthfeel and quantity. They work well with the broth which is like a mashup of tom yum and green curry. The spiciness and flavors are just great – it might seem like a strange gimmicky kind of thing but definitely not. I love the new and this is a new flavor for the instant noodle world. Original review

#6: Prima Taste Singapore Curry Wholegrain La Mian – Singapore

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

Since a very young age when my mother would cook curried chicken livers over rice, I’ve absolutely loved curry. This one is just mind blowing and has been on the top ten for years and years. The noodles are thick and chewy  – and have a rustic kind of feel to them. Marry that to the broth which comes from a large sachet of curry paste and one full of coconut milk powder, you end up with a rich, luxuriant experience you’ll love. I should note they also have a version with non-wholegrain noodles which is also very impressive. Original review

#5: CarJEN Nyonya Curry Laksa – Malaysia

Top Ten Best Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019

Back again with their rich curry noodle, CarJEN brings something very special to the table in their Nyonya Curry Laksa. You dip the paste seen on the spoon into the broth to flavor it and it has little bits of shrimp in there that really are a nice addition. Sweetness, spiciness, richness from coconut milk powder, and a nice plump noodle makes this so tasty and memorable. Original Review

#4: A-Sha Gourmet Braised Beef Noodle Soup – Taiwan

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition

This is the highest position a Taiwanese variety has achieved in The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time before – congratulations, Taiwan! For a long time, I’ve really enjoyed this style of noodle from Taiwan. It’s wide, with a center line which is thicker, and the sides are thinner – which gives them a very unique and wonderful mouthfeel. I’ve also always thought that these would just sing is in a broth (usually they are presented with a combination of sauces but no broth). The soup is rich with a strong beef flavor and hint of Sichuan peppercorn that do not overwhelm. The nice part is the inclusion of real beef in here. It should be noted that there is a special version of this that comes out during Lunar New Year which includes Wagyu beef – very expensive at a whopping $15USD per serving!, but very tasty as well. Original review

#3: Liangchengmei Biang Biang Men – China

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition

My wife Kit saw this while we were up in Canada and it piqued my curiosity so thought hey let’s give it a try. Noodles are very broad – over an inch. The flavoring is just superb – to use a word I normally don’t, this is yummy. What’s interesting too is that they included meat – at least I thought it was meat – it’s made from soy protein! Unique, delicious, and the highest a Chinese variety has achieved on The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time to date. Congratulations! Original review

#2: Red Chef Spicy Sakura Prawn Soup Noodles – Malaysia

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition

Let the prawn-slaught begin! Returning to the #2 spot this year, we have a Red Chef variety that just gives and gives when it comes to sweet and savory prawn flavor. This umami bomb has a nice chewy noodle that is complimented by just the sweetest, strongest prawn broth with an excellent thickness and just the right amount of spiciness. What’s more they include a sachet of crispy onions to put on top that round things out so well. If you want to have a prawn freak out, this is an indispensable tool. Original review

#1: Prima Taste Singapore Wholegrain Laksa La Mian — Singapore

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2019 Edition

For the fourth year in a row, Prima Taste wins with it’s excellent Wholegrain Laksa. If  abandoned on an island with only a life supply of instant noodles, I’d want them to be these, period. Hearty artisan noodles which are thick and of good quantity are combined with a broth which has a strong flavor and richness from coconut milk powder. A flavorful and striking noodle dish. #10: Mike’s Mighty Good Craft Ramen Vegetarian Vegetable Ramen Soup

Mike's Mighty Good Craft Ramen Vegetarian Vegetable Ramen Soup

Noodles came out quite nicely – good chew and gauge. The broth was kind of a vegetable and Western hot and sour affair with tart notes, sweet ones and a generally kind, giving disposition. The amount of vegetables was admirable and it all came together in a very good way. Original review

#9: Maruchan Creamy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Maruchan Creamy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

The noodles for this particular variety are just out of this world perfect. They have a decent and very standard gauge and suck up just enough broth. The broth has a very easy going creamy chicken taste, creaminess thanks to non-dairy creamer. Definitely my all-time favorite of the US Maruchan pillow pack range. Original review

#8: Nongshim Shin Black Spicy Pot-Au-Feu Flavor

#7: Nongshim Kimchi Flavor Noodle Soup

First off, this is a Vegan product. What’s awesome is that it’s just got this bright and tangy broth going on that really impresses me. Lots of pickled cabbage in there and great noodles to boot. Original review

#6: Mike’s Mighty Good Craft Ramen Beef Pho Flavor Rice Noodle Soup

Mike's Mighty Good Craft Ramen Beef Pho Flavor Rice Noodle Soup

The rice noodles are awesome. They smelled great as they cooked. The broth ended up a happy, thick mess of wonderfulness. I’ve had my share of bad instant pho. Happy to say this isn’t one of them.  Original review

#5: Sapporo Ichiban Japanese Style Noodles Chow Mein

Sapporo Ichiban Japanese Style Noodles Chow Mein

I’ve loved this one for years and it’s actually been on the annual top ten once or twice at the beginning. A broth free noodle with a very tasty seasoning. Garnish includes seaweed. Original review

#4: Nissin Cup Noodle Seafood Ramen Noodle Soup

Nissin Cup Noodle Seafood Ramen Noodle Soup

The noodles are your standard Cup Noodle fare. They are flat and thin gauged. Soft tooth and decent quantity. The nice thing about this one is the inclusions and the broth. The broth is a tasty and milky seafood one – salty and full of nice seafood flavor without being fishy. Clam and other seafood are abundant in decent size as well as scrambled egg as well as cabbage. Original review

#3: Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu Ramen Artificially Flavored Tonkotsu White Chicken Broth

Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu Ramen Artificially Flavored Tonkotsu White Chicken Broth

#2 – Maruchan Bowl Taste Of Asia Tom Yum Ramen Noodle Soup

Maruchan Bowl Taste Of Asia Tom Yum Ramen Noodle Soup

To be honest, I’m about as surprised by this one as you might be! But make no mistake – this US domestic variety is truly amazing. The tom yum flavor is just superb along with a huge quantity of noodles. You’ll fill up and be extremely happy as you do so. Original review

#1: Nissin Cup Noodles Very Veggie Spicy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Nissin Cup Noodles Very Veggie Spicy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

The noodles are thin and have a soft tooth. The flavor is a chicken with a lot of cumin and a bit of spiciness – not too much to fend off anyone I know, but enough to say ‘hi – I’m a little spicy.’ Just like the other three varieties in this range (chicken, beef and soy sauce), this one gets a lot of added flavor in the broth from the myriad vegetables included. Corn, bell pepper, and onion are omnipresent and just so welcome here. Of the quartet, this is my favorite, but each one deserves this spot – something newn innovative and delicious. Original review

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

The noodles are very good – like premium instants,. Liked the texture and chew on them very much. The broth had a very tasty and complex taste – I really liked the chicken taste augmented with the wolfberry and wine – it worked together in perfect harmony. Original review

#7: A-Sha Dan Zai Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

The noodles have a flat and broad gauge and an excellent chewiness I’ve come to expect from the A-Sha line of products. The flavor is very good – a kind of spicy, salty, slightly sweet and then this savoriness to it – lots of spices that I can really only describe as tasking like Taiwan. Original review

#6: Three Meters Noodles Shallot Taste

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

Nice gauge and light chew. The flavor was just mind-blowingly good and I am thoroughly excited about this one. The shallot flavor is just right – not too salty, not too pushy – just exactly perfect. Original review

#5: Tseng Noodle Scallion With Sichuan Pepper Flavor

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

A wide noodle with scalloped edges. These have the bonus of a thin edge and thicker center, giving a delicate as well as hearty aspect. The flavor is very good – a soy bump, some onion hit, then the Sichuan pepper oil. It all works together magnificently. Original review

#4: Little Cook Thailand Green Curry Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

This bowl, in fact, is two bowls. One you steep the noodles in. The second? Drain the broth from the first by poking holes in the lid and pour into it. The noodle is accompanied by a spicy green curry and chunks of vegetable and real chicken. The broth slurping soup worked well too. Original review

#3: Xiao Ban Mian Traditional Shallot & Onion Oil Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

Start with a thin kind of rectangular noodle with a strong chew. The flavor that comes with it is a sweet and savory shallot and scallion oil – and it works so well. Who would think something so simple could be so delightful. Original review

#2: TTL White Wine Carbonara Noodle – Taiwan

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

Much to my chagrin, TTL keeps coming out with interesting varieties. TTL stands for Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor – and they always have some kind of alcohol with their products. This one comes with a retort pouch will of creamy sauce and pork which is augmented by a sachet of white wine. A sipping soup is made with a separate sachet. The combination is apt and Very delicious. Original review

#1: Mom’s Dry Noodle Dan Dan Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Taiwanese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2018 Edition

The noodles came out with a very nice chew. They aren’t mushy whatsoever and have a confident backbone. The flavor is very good as well. The notes of sesame, Sichuan pepper oil, Sichuan pepper in the dry mix, sesame sauce as well as soy sauce all work together and play well with each other; nobody’s feet get stepped on. Simple yet complex. Original review

Re-Review: Prima Taste Singapore Curry Wholegrain La Mian

Re-Review: Prima Taste Singapore Curry Wholegrain La Mian

Ah, curry. I’ve loved curry since I was very young. My mother would make a curried chicken liver over rice dish that to this day I crave. Unfortunately, she’s not keen on the chicken liver that they sell at the store anymore. Thankfully, curry is popular around the world and there are no end in sight of options to get my curry fix. When it comes to the instant noodle realm, this is one of my my absolute favorite avenues. It’s been on the Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list for years – both in Wholegrain form and the original. Let’s crack it open and see what’s in this big pack of noodles!

A heaping amount of coconut milk powder. What I like is that when I open both of the sachets I get a whiff of deliciousness – and the coconut powder has a nice sweetness to it.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, tau pok, Dodo fish balls, and spring onion. The noodle is exquisite – nice thickness and just a perfect texture to them. What’s more is that in the exact time called for, they’re perfect. Good chewiness. The broth is a luxuriant thick curry – not overly strong but exactly and just right. To speak plainly, this is perfectly delicious. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8886350067830.

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

So for the past few years I’ve been thinking about putting out a top ten list for Singapore. It took me a while though; I wanted to have a TON of Singaporean varieties that I’d tried before doing so. Well, I’ve tried a TON of them now and I felt it would be nice to put out a new list. I’m posting this on Singapore’s National Day – thought it would be fitting. If you’re not familiar with the half lion half fish image in the picture above, that’s a Merlion. It’s the national symbol of Singapore. Here’s a little more about it here. Well, it’s time. These are my favorite varieties that come from Singapore from the over 2,500 reviews I’ve done to date. All these Singaporean varieties are most definitely shiok – so grab your favorite beer (mine’s Tiger) and check it out!

#10: KOKA Delight Tomato Flavor Instant Non-Fried Noodles

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

I’ve liked these since I first tried them years back. The non-fried noodles have a really great chew and really are about the same as a standard fried noodle. The broth has a wonderfully authentic and strong tomato taste – very fresh. I really like the garnish as well. Original review

#9: Nissin Cup Noodles Tom Yam Seafood Flavour

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

I’m still to this day intrigued by how much noodle can be in a Nissin Cup Noodles! A nice spicy cup of noodles. Strong seafood flavor with the added bonus of a spicy and crisp lemongrass hit. Included garnish is exemplary and the new version (coming in a post soon) has even more! Original review

#8: Prima Taste Singapore Fish Soup La Mian

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

By pairing their premium thick and chewy la mian noodles along with a rich broth, this fish soup variety makes for a very tasty meal. What’s more, adding a little whiskey to the broth gives it an even moire sumptuous effect. I had wanted to try this one for years before I got my hands on some and it was definitely worth the wait. Original review

#7: Maggi Extra Spicy Curry Instant Noodles

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles in this one are your standard instant variety – nice quantity too. What I like about this is the curry flavor – strong with a little extra kick of spiciness – not too much though. Definitely one of those late night comfort foods I’m sure most would really enjoy. Original review

#6: KOKA Signature Laksa Singapura Instant Noodles

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles only take 2 minutes to steep and come out very well. Add to that a rich creamy and seafood laksa which is masterfully augmented with included garnish which works very well. Oiliness is right on the mark and everything comes together so nicely. Original review

#5: KOKA Creamy Soup With Crushed Noodles Sweet Corn Flavor

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

Rethinking the instant noodle, this cup comes with two large sachets – one with a lot of powder base and one with crushed instant noodles. At the end, you wind up with a very thick and luxuriant kind of corn chowder affair which is very satisfying – and the corn hydrates perfectly and is sweet! There are a couple things which in many instant noodles that  don’t hydrate well in instant noodle cups and bowls and often, that’s corn. Glad to see it done right. Original review

#4: Prima Juzz’s Mee Creamy Chicken Flavour

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles in this one are broad and thick,m however soft and gentle. They remind me of some varieties of Taiwanese noodles – although softer. The broth is very rich and tasty with a very good thickness. An excellent creamy chicken which I’ve found to be just perfect. Original review

#3: Prima Taste Singapore Curry Wholegrain La Mian

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

These have been in the annual Top Ten List for the past two years and their non-wholegrain brethren have been for even more. Chewy, artisan feel noodles are engaged with a very thick and rich broth with huge sachets of paste and coconut milk powder. Brilliant stuff. Original review

#2: Nissin Straits Reborn Laksa – Singapore

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles have a great gauge and quality – nice chew too. The broth is amazingly thick. It’s got a nice coconut milk powder component and a ton of paste with nice shrimp taste. Indeed, there’s shrimp morsels all through it (by morsel I mean crumb sized bits) so make it about as rich as it can get. The laksa leaves added a little something special. Everything comes together in such a way that it just sings.  Original review

#1: Prima Taste Singapore Laksa Wholegrain La Mian – Singapore

Singaporean Singapore The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Singaporean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

This is my favorite of the 2500+ reviews I’ve posted to date. It is number one in the annual 2017 top ten and was also in 2016. The noodles are thick and full with a great chew and being wholegrain, they have a kind of rustic and artisan feel to them. Just can’t get enough of them. The broth is thick and full of flavor. The pack contains a pair of sachets: one with coconut milk powder and the other with a lavish laksa paste. The flavors and noodles marry together in a crescendo of flavors that keep me coming back for more – bravo! Original review

The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

恭喜发财 and Happy Lunar New Year to all! I had a look at my lists I hadn’t updated in a while and saw it was in January of 2014 last I did a top ten Chinese list. Why so long? Well, I like to have done quite a few reviews in a year when it comes to country lists for that specific country. If I’d done only two and there weren’t any big changes, I’ll kind of let it go until the next year. This one seemed ripe and ready for a new version. Of the almost 150 reviews I’ve done of Chinese instant noodles, these are my favorites. I should mention that if you are an instant noodle in mainland China and interested in having me review your products, please contact me to set up a review series. With that, let’s have a look at The Ramen Rater’s top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition.

#10: Sichuan Baijia Broad Noodle Chilli Oil Flavor

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

So The noodles are very broad and hydrated well. They have a nice chewiness to them. The flavor is excellent – a nice oily spiciness, a slight sweetness and a kind of puckery taste as well. The vegetable hydrated very well. Original review here

#9: Master Kong Tomato Sauce Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles are about double the width of a standard instant noodle and flat. Very floppy but very nice in this application. The broth is indeed tomato flavored, and has a nice tomato taste at that. The included vegetables hydrated perfectly – all the way down to the peas. Original review here

#8: Baixiang Noodles Sauerkraut Flavor Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

You might be thinking ‘sauerkraut?’ But actually, pickled cabbage as well as other vegetables are quite popular throughout Asia. The noodles are a little wide and flat. The are really very good and there’s a lot of them. The broth has a rich flavor – the sauerkraut’s bitterness is there, but also a kind of artificial meat flavor that works well. Also, there’s a little spiciness to it which was great! Original review here

#7: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Beef Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles are perfect – plump and plentiful. The broth is wonderful – perfect oiliness and heat and beef flavor. The heat tastes like it’s coming from Sichuan peppers. The vegetables in the powder sachet hydrated very well. The supplied seaweed is perfect. Original review here

#6: Wugudaochang Sour Soup & Minced Meat Flavor Chef’s Grain Naked Oat Noodles

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles have a standard instant gauge. They have just the right backbone to them – good texture and chew. The broth is extremely good – a tart beef flavor with good oiliness to it. The carrot and beef are excellent! Like a gourmet vegetable beef noodle. Original review here

#5: Sichuan Baijia Chongqing Noodles Spicy Hot Flavor

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles are thin and flat with a medium width. They really work well here. The broth is a very spicy beef with a Sichuan pepper hit among others. There are sesame seeds throughout and the bits of vegetables in there were great. Original review here

#4: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Chicken Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles came out very nicely – lots of them and of good texture and chew. The broth has a great spiciness – still worthy of the top ten spicy list. Sichuan pepper for sure. Nice color and oiliness in the broth as well. Original review here

#3: Sichuan Baijia Chongqing Noodles Burning Dry Noodles

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

I mean wow! I wasn’t sure of what to expect here, but this is really great! The noodles are extremely plentiful and really soft and floppy. This is perfect as the seasonings and liquids combine with them very well. The flavor is like an almost beefy and tasty lasagna but with Sichuan pepper and other spices going on. Moreover, the more you eat, the spicier it gets – heat, upon heat, upon heat! The pain! I really expected this to probably be really salty and have a strong vinegar taste but I was completely mistaken. I love this. Original review here

#2: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Pork Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles came out nice and plump and there’s a good amount of them. The broth has a fiery spiciness and great flavor to it. I really have to say the red chillies add a very nice hit of spice and vegetable elements. Original review here

#1: Wugudaochang Tomato Beef Brisket Flavor Purple Potato Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles, made from purple potatoes have a nice texture to them – a little sturdier than your garden variety instant and they were very nice to chew. The broth is a thick beef and tomato affair, with a very luxuriant and rich texture to it – almost creamy in a way. The inclusion of large pieces of tomato and real beef brisket in there was admirable and very enjoyable. Premium bowl of noodles. Original review here

The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014 Edition

2014_4_21_tta_001

Well folks, it’s that time again. Since the last list, I’ve reviewed another 335 varieties – almost one a day This list reflects the ones I’ve reviewed in the last year as well as those reviewed before that – 1,365 varieties in all. It seems to get tougher each time – so many good ones! Here’s this year’s list – the best of the best. With that, I present to you The Ramen Rater’s top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014 Edition.

#10: MAMA Instant Noodles Yentafo Tom Yum Mohfai Flavour – Thailand

Yentafo (aka yong tau foo) has a spicy and sweet flavor. The sweetness is derived from hoisin sauce and the spiciness from chillies. Seasoned brown noodles are complimented by these unique flavors as well an a nice bit of heartiness from oil. Original review here

#9: Nongshim Soon Veggie Noodle Soup – South Korea

This is the first instant noodle on the top ten to be marketed towards vegetarians. What surprised me about it was the broth had such a full flavor to it; deep and satisfying. The noodles are slightly larger in gauge than your run of the mill instant, which is common of South Korean ‘ramyun.’ Magnificent stuff! Original review here

#8: Prima Taste Singapore Chilli Crab La Mian – Singapore

Prima Taste’s third appearance in the top ten. Chilli Crab is considered the signature dish of Singapore. This is a brothless variety – excellent, chewy noodles and a sweet sauce that has a sweet, spicy and buttery taste. If you like crab, this is one to try. Original review here

#7: Mamee Chef Curry Laksa Flavour  – Malaysia

This one was a pleasant surprise. Touting Mamee’s ‘Mi Tarik’ technology to approximate the same texture as hand pulled noodles, they chewiness and gauge are really quite special. The broth has a beautiful hit of cumin that adds a richness I found delectable. Garnish included small bits of tofu puff! Original review here

#6: Paldo Cheese Noodle – South Korea

These noodles – wow. I think the best addition to South Korean ramyun has to be cheese. Well, not only is cheese included here but it’s got just the perfect notes of spiciness and strong, rich flavor. The little guy with the sign that says cheese noodle rocks as well. Original review here

#5: Samyang Foods Maesaengyitangmyun Baked Noodle – South Korea

Last year was the 50th anniversary of ramyun in South Korea, pioneered by Samyang Foods. Samyang decided to try making something new – SBN, a baked noodle. What’s really neat here is that the noodles smell like bread! The broth is a lot like gomtang, a traditional beef soup. To shake it up, maesangyi is added – kind of like seaweed spun into a cotton-like consistency. The finished product is quite delectable; almost like a chowder! Original review here

#4: Sapporo Ichiban Otafuku Okonomi Sauce Yakisoba – Japan

I’ve always really loved yakisoba and this is the best I’ve found in an instant form yet. Otofuku is a brand of yakisoba sauce that can be found almost anywhere, and it’s inclusion in this one is just perfection. What’s more, the noodles are garnished with green laver (flaked seaweed) and a little mayonnaise packet! Original review here

#3: Prima Taste Singapore Curry La Mian – Singapore

Premium chewy noodles are given the opportunity to swim in some of the best curry broth I’ve ever had. The real difference here is that there are two sachets – curry paste and a ‘premix’ which is primarily coconut powder. Sheer delight! Original Review / Special 2014 Re-Review

#2: Prima Taste Singapore Laksa La Mian – Singapore

Prima Taste’s La Mian noodles are just pure wonderful, and their paste and coconut powder sachets are brimming with rich flavor. This one is a little spicy and has strong shrimp flavor. Little beads of chilli oil dance around the top of the broth like miniature rubies. Spectacular! Original review / Special 2014 Re-Review

#1: MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle – Malaysia

The ultimate! The noodles are just the right texture and gauge – not too wide or too narrow with a chewiness that is perfection. The broth is amazing – extremely spicy (hit #7 on the 2013 Spiciest Instant Noodles list), and features a strong curry flavor and a hearty finish. I am truly impressed with this one and would consider it to be the one I would love to eat every day. Bravo! Original review / Special 2014 Re-Review
