Re-Review: Indomie Chicken Curry Flavour Instant Noodles

My son went and picked out a bunch of instant noodles at the Asian grocery a couple weeks ago and today he would like to try this one. A good pick – nothing’s more interesting than curry! I put curry up there with garlic, bacon and kimchi… Indescribably tasty.

Re-Review: Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Mi Cakalang

Of the re-reviews I’ve done recently, I would say this is one of the most recent. Here’s the link for it’s first review, #858. Cakalang is also known as Skipjack tuna.

Finished (click to enlarge). I added some sweet onion, a fried egg with some Krazy Mixed Up Salt and Dua Belibis chili sauce. This stuff packs from heat! The noodles are your standard Indomie – nice texture and spring. The broth is spicy and has a nice tuna flavor along. There was a packet of garnish, which was dried tuna bits and was quite tasty. I like this a lot! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 08968604302 .

Re-Review: Indomie Curly Noodle With Chicken & Chilli Paddi

This is one that ended up at second place on the Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time – that means its really hot! There are these tiny little peppers (chilli paddi) that are real scorchers and they’re small enough that when you happen to find one, you get quite a jolt! I reviewed this a while back this year – #732 and during the Meet The Manufacturer: Indomie special. This is one of the packs sent directly from Indofood in Indonesia – I am told they will be sending some new samples very soon! Can’t wait to try them!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sweet onions, turkey breast, two scrambled eggs and some Dua Belibis chilli sauce. Noodles are quite good – same style as the #1 from the Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list. The flavor is nice – the noodles are coated with a slightly spicy but sweet flavor – and those little peppers pop up now and again and blow your head off – exhilarating! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. How do they make Indomie? Watch and see! I believe this is an African plant but I’m sure its not much different in Indonesia.

Re-Review: Indomie Curly Noodles With Grilled Chicken Flavour (Mie Keriting Rasa Ayam Panggang)

I’m going to go out on a limb here. I would say that if I were held down and demanded to answer the question “what is your favorite instant noodle of all time” that I would probably say it was this one. I would also say the Special Fried Curly Noodle that tops the Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list; they’re both equally amazing and awesome. What I can’t believe is that I haven’t had it since review #51! That’s ANCIENT! I used to eat this one all the time.

So if you look at the directions on the pack, you’ll notice below there’s a mention of soup. With this stuff, you make the noodles like regular Mi Goreng but there’s also a soup you add at the end.

Yes – they’re curly as well! The flavor is sweet and spicy with a little chick flavor. The broth adds another facet as the noodles aren’t dry but have a nice small amount of broth. Re-Review: Indomie Mi Goreng Pedas Hot Fried Noodles

Someone asked quite a while back if I would re-review this one, so I thought I’d do that today. Pedas means spicy in the Indonesian language.

The liquids and garnish: from left to right we have seasoned oil, sweet soy sauce and finally some fried onion which are added at the end.

My son Andy wanted some Top Ramen Shrimp flavor, so I whipped up some with kamaboko and broccoli.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added a fried egg, veggies, some beef with Soul Seasoning and some Dua Belibis chili sauce. Noodle are good – chewy enough, not soggy and a good amount. The flavor is a little spicier than regular Mi Goreng, which is milder. It’s a sweet and spicy flavor that coats all of the noodles nicely. The fried onion gives a satisfying crunch here and there. #909: Indomie Mi Goreng Kriuuk Bawang

This is the final one – the last one that my friend from Jakarta, Indonesia sent. These have been a lot of fun since there’s no way you can buy them here in the states! Awesome! Thanks again! So what does bawang mean? Onion. And what about kriuuk? Crunchy. Let’s try this out.

Here’s the star of the show: the crunchy bits!

Kind of look like Rice Krispies, no? Well, they definitely end their resemblance with the visual – they’re spicy, crunchy little bits of enjoyment.

Thought I’d take a shot of them all together to really show what we have. This is a lot of extra stuff to go with a block of instant noodles; Indomie’s really quite unique in this.

Added sweet onion, bell pepper, carrot, broccoli, green bean, water chestnut, baby corn, some baked chicken with Lindberg-Snider Red Baron BBQ Spice, a couple fried eggs with some Krazy Mixed Up salt, Dua Beliibis chili sauce and Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are trademark Indomie – nice chew and good quantity. The flavor is nice – the sweet and spicy is there as well as a nice hit of onion. The kriuuk? #895: SuperMi Sedaaap Mi Goreng & Citrojugo Lime Juice Review

Here’s one of the last couple from my friend in Jakarta, Indonesia – thanks again – mailed off your sticker yesterday! Mi Goreng – always a tasty treat! Today, I’m doing things a little differently. Not only am I reviewing these noodles but…

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a representative of Citrojugo. They make lime juice – in fact, they make a lot of lime juice! They wanted to know if I would be interested in purchasing some of their lime juiced for use with my products. I let them know I don’t make anything, I just review, but I would be happy to review their lime juice, not that I’m a lime juice expert or anything. Here’s what they sent – almost a liter of thick, cloudy lime juice concentrate. This stuff is potent! Decided to marinate a chicken breast with it, some chicken broth and Cavendar’s Greek seasoning. We’ll see how it came out further down.

I put the chicken breast in the over in a 8×8 dish with the Citrojugo lime juice, chicken broth and seasoning, covered and baked for 50 minutes. Looks pretty good to me!

Added yellow onions, green bell pepper, broccoli, hard boiled egg with Krazy Mixed Up Salt, Dua Belibis chili sauce, kizami shoga (pickled ginger) and some baked chicken marinated in Citrojugo lime juice concentrate with a little Cavender’s Greek Seasoning. The noodles are great – not too chewy, not at all soggy. The flavor of the powder and liquid give it a sweet and spicy taste that can only be described as Mi Goreng – wonderful! The crunchy fried onions are an absolute treat. These are great 5.0/5.0 stars noodles. As for the lime juice, I can’t say that I’m any form of authority on lime juice, but its really good with the chicken! I has a crisp and tasty acidity that makes the chicken taste great! Best concentrated lime juice I’ve ever had the fortune to sample. Special thanks to Jazmin at Citrojugo! UPC bar code 089686915709 .

#882: SuperMi Gobang Goreng Rasa Ayam Bawang

Here’s one of the last couple of packs sent by my friend from Jakarta, Indonesia. Thanks again – these have been a real treat to review! This one’s one of SuperMi’s well-know fusions. Goreng and Ayam Bawang; a sdry noodle with a flavor of a soup noodle! Pretty cool. Ready to eat!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added onion, bell pepper and broccoli, a little turkey lunch meat, a couple fried eggs with Krazy Mixed Up Salt and some Dua Belibis Indonesian chili sauce. Noodles are decent – good chew and quantity. The flavor is great – definitely has an onion chicken flavor and also a lot of sweetness, no doubt from the sweet soy sauce. The chili sauce that came with it also supplies a nice amount of heat. There’s a ton of fried onion to add on top at the end for a nice crunch – I think I definitely like these better than the Indomie Kriuuk – the Kriuuk bits are a little harder to crunch and too many of them. This is a great example of wonderful instant mi goreng from Indonesia – 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 089686014945

#876: Mi Instan Sarimi Soto Koya Pedasss

This one was sent by a friend in Jakarta, Indonesia – thank you! What a day – so around 11am, people started flooding into the site! LifeHacker ran a story about The Ramen Rater and literally thousand of people have checked out the blog. Well, here’s one from Indonesia – Soto Koya Pedass. Pedas means spicy, so I guess Pedass means really spicy or it could be a nod to Turturro in The Big Lebowski. I have a feeling it just means really spicy. I’ve seen this kind of thing before – extra letters = extra emphasis, at least in Indonesian. Well, let’s dig in to this one!

Quite a nice scent of citrus and spices.

Koya powder. This stuff is interesting…

So upon some researching, I found that serbuk koya means Koya powder. According to Selby’s Food Corner, “Koya powder is made from prawn crackers, fried garlic and dried shrimp.” They mention sprinkling it on top of a dish at that link, so I am assuming that it is to be sprinkled on top as a garnish.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added fresh broccoli, green bell pepper and onions, a hard boiled egg with some Cavender’s Greek Seasoning and some Dua Belibis Indonesian chili sauce. The noodles are pretty good – they break apart nicely and soaked up a good amount of broth. The broth was great – a combination of lime and other spices as well as a slight spiciness. This wasn’t bad but was expecting more heat. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 089686917239 .

#867: Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Coto Makassar

This is a real treat – this is one of the varieties not available in the United States and was kindly sent by Edwin N. of Vancouver, BC! Thank you again so much! So what is Coto Makassar anyways? Well, here’s something I found here:

Coto? Nope, I am not misspelled the word to Soto (popular Indonesian dishes). Its a local name for the traditional food from South Sulawesi, a soup that consist of meat, specifically the innards of cow, and mixed with spices like galangal and pepper. Galangal is also known as Blue ginger, Alpinia galanga, or lengkuas in Indonesian name.

Makassar in the name refers to the capital city of South Sulawesi, where this unique dishes is very popular as the local traditional food.

Wikipedia says:

Coto Makassar or Coto Mangkasara (Makassarese), is an Indonesian culinary food originating from Makassar, South Sulawesi. It is a soup with seasoning broth made from starch.[1] The main content of this soup is beef and it can be mixed with innards such as intestine, liver, lungs, heart, tripe, or cow brain.[2]

Coto Makassar is usually served with Burasa or Ketupat.

Nice texture. The broth Has a very deep and dark color. Has a spicy and a funky beef taste – kind of a spicy vegetable beef kind of thing going on. Good stuff. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. The special fried curly noodles we get here in the US from Indomie tops my Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list. Let’s give these a try.

The noodles and broad and flat – deiniftely different than the usual Indomie noodles. The flavor is spicy and sweet and wonderful. This is much like the one we get here, but with a little nicer veggies. Perfect. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. I have heard that they may be getting rid of the Special Curly or the Special Grilled Chicken flavors soon. hope not!
