#2925: Uni-President Pickled Cabbage Beef Stir Noodle Bowl

We found this one up at Foodyworld in Richmond, BC. They were on a great sale – 2 for $3CAD! Not bad at all! I have to say I love this packaging’s graphic. The food is all sharp and colorful and contrasts so well with the background. Very old school Chinese! Sorry about the lack of pictures of what’s inside the sachets – woke up late and so rushing to get just this one done! Let’s have a look!

#2385: Uni-President Man Han Feast Chilli Beef Flavor Instant Noodles - Taiwan - Ther Ramen Rater - 札幌一番 滿漢大餐 麻辣鍋牛肉麵

Well, it has been a long time coming but here it is. This is the one I’ve been looking for. For three years. Why so hard to get? It’s really popular in Taiwan – why couldn’t I get it? Simple. Beef. There’s a big pouch of beef in here – not artificial beef, but real beef. I got this in Taiwan and brought it back with me. It’s kind of stupid; if someone sent this to me in the mail, it’d get stopped by the USDA inspectors that check the mail. I go there and pack it in my stuff, it comes through fine. What’s nice too is that it is in perfect condition; like I went to the store here and bought it and brought it home. Let’s crack this thing open and take a gander at this huge pack of noodles.

Finished (click to enlarge). Decided to show this one without garnish. The noodles are nice – flat and a little broad with a soft chew. A decent amount of them as well. The broth has a beef taste to it with a surprisingly light Sichuan chilli taste – I did expect a little more in the fiery department. The broth has a rich beef flavor and oiliness to it, just wish it had had a little more flavor than it did. The beef was very nice – a good quantity as well which really bumped up the game on this one. Not disappointed and thrilled I finally got to review it! 4.75 out of 5.0 stars. #2352: Uni-President Minced Pork Flavor Instant Noodles

#2352: Uni-President Minced Pork Flavor Instant Noodles - Taiwan - The Ramen Rater - 統一肉燥麵

Here’s one I got at 7-Eleven in Taiwan. I’ve seen these for so long with the stripes and they’re very popular in Taiwan. Here’s a little about Uni-President, the company that makes these – from Wikipedia –

Uni-President Enterprises Corporation (TWSE: 1216) (traditional Chinese: 統一企業公司; simplified Chinese: 统一企业公司; pinyin: Tǒngyī Qǐyè Gōngsī; Wade–Giles: T’ung-i Chi-yeh) is an international food conglomerate based in Tainan, Taiwan. It is the largest food production company in Taiwan as well as Asia, and has a significant market share in dairy product, foods and snacks, and beverages markets. It is also responsible for running Starbucks, 7-Eleven, Mister Donut and Carrefour in Taiwan. In addition, Uni-President also has subsidiaries in Mainland China and Thailand.[1]

Furthermore, Uni-President is also the owner of Uni-President Lions, a professional baseball team in Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League.

The export versions I’ve tried haven’t been my favorite, so curious how this one will be. Let’s find out!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion, chilli oil, chilli powder, Chinese sausage and white onion. The noodles were alright – standard instant noodles with a light sponginess but not enough to mind. The broth was bland and had a slight bitterness reminiscent of coffee. Expected so much more flavor for something so popular in its country of origin. 1.25 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 4710088410115.

Unif-100 Instant Noodles -Artificial Stewed Pork Chop Shrimp Flavor 3.63oz/103g

A TV spot for this product line.

#1327: Unif-100 Instant Noodles Artificial Tart Beef Flavor

Here’s one sent to me by Roger S. – thanks! I haven’t had one of these Unif-100’s in a while. I had the Cayenne Beef a little while back, but this is one of the ones that are distributed here in the US quite widely. Chances are if you have an Asian grocery local to you, they’ll have some of the Unif line of instants. Now, while beef is a very common flavor where instant noodles are concerned, tart beef is something I’ve not encountered before. Let’s see what’s inside and how it tastes.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, put everything in a bowl and add 500ml boiling water. Cover for 3 minutes, stir and serve. What I do is I boil the water in a pot that has a lid, take the pot off, add everything and cover for 3 minutes and stir; seems easier to me.

The noodle block.

The powder base sachet.

A light powder.

The paste sachet.

Has a tart scent from vinegar.

The vegetables sachet.

Cabbage, chilli and other veggies.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added leeks, thin sliced sukiyaki beef, Fresno chilli pepper, and Nappa cabbage. The noodles . The broth is definitely tart beef flavor. I wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but after a couple tastes I was kind of into it. It has a bit of spiciness as well which went well. The broth is a little oily from the paste, also something that was welcome here. The vegetable garnish was really nice and worked well. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 6920077415627.

Here’s a video showing daily life in Guangzhou, China – the city where these Unif noodles are manufactured.

#1258: Meet The Manufacturer: President Chicken Flavoured Fried Noodle

This is an interesting one; there’s ABC and there’s President. I’ve seen the logo on products made in other regions too – Taiwan most notably. Let’s see how this one tastes!

The back of the package (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, boil the noodles for 3 minutes. In a bowl, put all the sachet contents except the fried onion. Drain the noodles and combine them with the ingredients in the bowl and sprinkle with the fried onion.

The noodle block.

The dry seasoning sachet.

A very fine powder.

Three connected liquid sachets (from left to right): seasoned oil, chilli sauce and sweet soy sauce.

Has an onion scent.

Chilli sauce on the left and sweet soy sauce on the right.

The garnish sachet.

Fried onion.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sweet onion and chicken sauteed with BonCabe chilli spice, fried egg, Dua Belibus chilli sauce and kerupuk aci. The noodles have a good consistency and texture. They have a very standard instant noodle gauge. The flavor is sweet and salty with just a hint of spicy. It’s definitely more chicken than other mi goreng I’ve had. The fried onion ends up giving everything a nice little crunch. 4.5 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 8992388312290.

Here’s a recipe for ayam kecap – sweet soy sauce chicken.

Meet The Manufacturer: Product Samples From ABC President

A box came the other day – noodles!

Four varieties of pillow pack instants by ABC President.

A Mi ABC cup.

Finally, five different Eat & Go cups. These have been quite good – I’ll re-review the ones I’ve already tried during Meet The Manufacturer. Thanks to Hedy and Darrian!

#1214: Eat & Go Rendang Beef Flavour Fried Instant Noodle

Here’s another from my friend in Jakarta, Indonesia – thanks! I’ve got high hopes for this one. Why? Well, the Spicy Chicken version placed on my Top Ten Instant Noodle Cups of 2013. Also, Indomie’s Rendang placed in the Top Ten Instant Noodles of 2013 list. I guess we’ll see how this does! Let’s check it out!

Here are the side panels (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat-free but check for yourself. Take out the sachets and fork, add enough boiling water to cover the noodles and let sit for 3 minutes. Drain off the water, then add the sachet contents, stir and you’re done.

Here’s the lid (click image to enlarge).

An included fork!

The noodle block.

A dual sachet: seasoning base and chili powder.

The chilli powder atop the seasoning base in the lower left.

Garnish sachet – fried onion and… dumpling? Interesting!

Tried one of the dumpling pieces – crunchy like a wonton.

Triple sachet of liquid ingredients: seasoned oil, chili sauce and sweet soy sauce.

Chilli sauce top left, sweet soy sauce top right and the seasoned oil throughout.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added lime, hard boiled egg, sweet onion and beef. The noodles come out nice after steeping. They have a standard gauge and good cgewiness. The flavor is great – sweet. spicy and beefy! Excellent stuff – and if it wasn’t good enough already, the garnish adds a really good finish to things. This was a real treat to enjoy. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 8992388133178.

#1205: MAMA Instant Noodles Pork Flavour With Black Pepper

Here’s one that was sent from Germany by a fellow named Samonporn – thank you! I am really happy to be trying these since it’s been a few days since I had any pork on hand to pair anything with. Let’s check it out!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block.

A dual dry seasoning sachet: chili powder on the left and soup base on the right.

The chili powder atop the soup base.

The seasoned oil sachet.

Has a black pepper scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added thin cut pork butt and sweet onion sauteed with black pepper and some cilantro (cardamom). The noodles are thin and enjoyable crumbly with their own flavor with a nice sesame hint. The broth is definitely full of black pepper flavor and has a nice finish. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

A MAMA TV spot.

#1177: Mi ABC Mi Instan Rebus Rasa Ayam Bawang (Onion Chicken Flavour)

Another one sent by my friend in Indonesia – thank you! A little translation. So it’s onion chicken flavor – rasa means flavor, bawang is onion and ayam chicken. Mi instan is instant noodle, but rebus? Rebus translated to boiled and here I think refers to the noodles being ‘cooking noodles.’ As I’ve mentioned in the past, what makes a noodle ‘instant’ is the fact that you can put the noodle block and seasonings in a bowl, add boiling water and then cover for a few minutes, stir and eat. Anyways, let’s check out this Indonesian variant.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat-free, but check for yourself.

The noodle block.

The dry seasonings sachet. Powder soup base on the left and chili powder on the right.

Chili powder atop the soup base powder.

Seasoned oil sachet.

Has a strong onion scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added chicken baked with Lindberg-Snider Porterhouse & Roast Seasoning (I know, but it’s got a lot of sage in it and works great with chicken), red, yellow and orange bell pepper, Walla Walla sweet onion and hard boiled egg. The noodles are pretty average – not amazing buut they’re good. The broth is nice and warming with a touch of spiciness, and a great onion and chicken flavor. The seasoned oil gives it a little oiliness that is perfect. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 8992388111237.

Here’s an ABC advert for a different variety – they make pizza with it!

#890: Unif / Tung-I Mushroom Flavor Ramen Noodles

So today I have two mushroom flavored instant noodles I’ll be doing. First off will be this Unif/Tung-I mushroom pack. What’s interesting about this one is that Unif Tung-I is usually from Taiwan, but this one’s from Vietnam. Anyways, let’s try this one and see how it is.

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Notice all of the German on here!

The noodle block.

Dry seasonings.

Powder as well as veggies!

The seasoned oil packet.

Looks interesting.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some baked chicken, yellow onion, green onion, Krazy Mixed Up Salt and Ajishima Kimchi furikake. The noodles are thin and have an almost buttery taste. The broth has a mushroom taste but its not overwhelming; almost like sauteed mushrooms. Pretty good – 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 073217060068 – get it here.

A Gift From The President Of Nongshim America

It’s been a couple months since our trip to Nongshim in Rancho Cucamonga, California. I was sent a very nice gift from the president of Nongshim America to thank us for visiting and for our reviews! Thank you! This is a golden pot, a very standard cooking item in Korea used to make ramyun!

A nice new bowl for noodles!

A nice ceramic bowl.

This one’s interesting – it’s a stainless bowl that has an empty air pocket in the middle so hot soup wont burn your fingers if you’re carrying the bowl! I think a bowl like this was used when I had Naengmyeon once.

This one’s fancy – has a nice pair of fish in the middle and a craquelure that’s glazed over – really neat!

This one has a nice earthenware material and the paint drips are really neat! Can’t wait to try these all out – going to of course break ’em in with Nongshim noodles too! Thanks again! As always, my reviews are based on the quality of the products and the products alone – and I’ve really enjoyed Nongshim’s products a lot!

#812: Master Kong/康师傅 Spicy Beef

Spicy beef! This was sent by Bo H. of China! Thanks again! These have all been a lot of fun and quite good! Let’s see how Master Kong’s Spicy Beef goes.

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks like they grow big peppers in china.

The block broke but not too badly.

Powdered base.

A decent amount of powder – tasty!

Seasoned oil.

Has a beefish smell.

The veggie packet – more of an herb packet it looks like.

I think the red pieces are chillies. Not sure about the other bits.

Finished (click image to enlarge). I added some onions, broccoli and re bell pepper, a slice of processed cheese, a fried egg and some of that awesome Dua Belibis hot sauce. The noodles are good – they suck up a lot of liquid and are tasty to boot. The broth is nice too – had a spicy and sweet taste to it and the beef flavor is very good. I like this a lot – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 6903252061024 .

Yes! Awesome commercial!

This is awesome – these guys aren’t screwing around with these noodles!
