I don’t know what I did… Maybe it was the amount of walking I’ve been doing… I do tend to walk as fast as I can… I have a suspiciom it was stretching to grab a bowl off the high shelf that was accompanied by a little feeling and sounded like biting a piece of raw chicken gristle. Whatever it was, I’m really sore. Not fun. Anyways, enough griping – found this one at Evergreen Asian Market in Everett, Washington. What’s more, is the pack green or pink? I thought it was green the whole time. Colors can be really hard for me to see. Better consult an expert. Well, my daughter says it’s pink. Alright – it’s pink. Let’s cook it up.

Another variety that was sent by James of Lakeside, CA. The last of these Hoang Gia varieties I tried was really pretty good. Curious if this is just going to be the same thing with a little bit of heat. Time to find out!

Think I found this at HMart. This one says it has a stewed seafood sachet which sounds interesting. I also find the global top ten mention – not my global top ten though. Interesting. Let’s give it a try!

Found this one at Evergreen Asian Market in Everett, Washington. I found quite a few Vietnamese varieties there I looked up in my archives, found a bowl version of this which was my fifth review. Those early early reviews are definitely out of order, but it was definitely one of the first 30 I tried back in 2002-2003. Well, let’s give this one a try.

Here’s one that was sent in by reader James from Lakeside, CA! Thanks! He’s sent quite a few neat varieties over the past year and this follows suit. It contains a retort pouch, kind of the high bar when it comes to instants as it’s like a flexible can with fish or meat in there which makes everything better. This one’s got crab – let give it a try!

Every once in a while, I dig through all the noodles and other things I have and this popped up. Actually, the other day I found a slew of expired stuff from 2018 and 2019 – like expired I mean well over a year! Tossed about 25 pounds of stuff, sadly. Luckily I’ve still got a bunch of stuff to review. This one seemed like an interesting one to do since although it’s not an instant noodle, it’s something you’ll eventually run into on the instant noodle aisle. So sit back, relax, don’t have a cow because it’s neither ramen nor a noodle, and check out rice porridge from Vietnam.

I found this one up in Canada at a place called Hen Long Market. Did find a whole lot there, but this was definitely a score. They’re made in Vietnam – however they’re for Poland! Poland! European noodles! Yeah – I’m sure you can tell that makes me happy. Always wish I can find more stuff from/for Europe.

We found this one at a place called Hen Long Market up in Surrey, BC on a trip a few months back. Thanks to my friend Ken for telling me about this place! So this one’s from Vietnam and I don’t often have come across Vietnamese varieties like this one. Usually, I see the same thing again and again and this one is definitely different. Let’s have a look at this minced pork variety!

Now for the third year, I’m coming out with the latest Top Ten Instant Rice Noodles list. Rice noodles have some benefits as opposed to their fried wheat counterparts. First, they’re virtually fat-free. Also, they’re not fried. Rice noodles are gluten-free by nature, although the ingredients in the sachets that come with these varieties might not be. People ask me for a gluten-free list often, but that would be rather difficult as I’d have to pore over every ingredient list on every review to do this. With my son Andy over here, it’s usually a good bet that he will like some chicken noodles with some nice garnish. His favorites include fish cake and cheese – which don’t always go with everything. I’d usually choose something like that combo for spicy Korean seafood ramyun. It really seemed illogical that the ‘original’ would be made in Southern California, especially since I was in a city called Sriracha in Thailand this May. I found a Bon Appetit article mentioning the true original and some comment by Eastland Foods. I emailed my contact Michael over there to see if he could help me out with a sample – and he really came through (the original sriracha came in the other box) – thanks! Once in a blue moon I find an instant noodle in my hamper of which I have absolutely NO CLUE WHERE IT CAME FROM. I mean, yeah – I know it’s made in Vietnam and that it’s a chicken curry variant, but I have no idea how it got into my hamper. Where did I get it? Hmmm… Well, it needs to be reviewed so here I am. Let’s check it out!

The first thing you’re going to say is ‘porridge isn’t ramen.’ Well aware of that, dude. Then again, these often show up on the instant noodle aisle of an Asian grocery and as such, I thought it could use some attention. This is a Vietnamese seafood porridge, much like what they call congee in China. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about Vietnamese rice porridge:

Here’s one with an interesting name. ‘Ngon-ngon?’ What could that mean? So I plugged ‘ngon-ngon’ into Google translate and it came up with ‘delicious’. I thought it interesting that only one ‘ngon’ came up with ‘tasty.’ I thought then, well hey – what about a trifecta of ‘ngon?’ Well, ‘ngon ngon ngon’ comes up with ‘delicious delicious.’ Anyways, it sounds like these Vifon minced pork tom yum noodles should be delicious. I hope they are! Let’s have a look.

Here’s one I got up in Canada in July of last year. Looks like a very basic chicken noodle cup. This one’s from Vietnam, and they usually put some interesting things inside. Let’s have a look!

I thought this one interesting; it says hot and sour chicken, but those are shrimp on there too. I decided I’d walk to the store and try something new. Fish balls! I’ve had them in hot pot before, but thought I’d get some golden fish balls with shrimp for this one. Let’s check it out!

Been some time since I’ve had a crab flavored noodle from Vietnam, so I thought why not today.. Looks cool – let’s check it out!

My friend Todd T, clued me in the other day about a new Asian grocery on 99 in south Everett and we checked it out. Well, I found this interesting one. Vietnamese kimchi ramn! Check it out!

I don’t usually review these but I saw this one and I thought it looked kind of interesting. Basically, take instant rice and shred it up and then use instant noodle packets and steep it for a few minutes. Basically it’s like rice noodle mush!

Stewed fish huh? Found this one at Uwajimaya in Seattle around my birthday. It says there’s fish in there… Hmm.

Another ‘bottom of the hamper’ pick. Not a huge fan of the bean thread – you surely know that if you’re a follower of this blog. Really hoping to become one though – maybe pork will change my view.

I thought today I’d pause from the onslaught of funky noodles and look at this one. The thing I didn’t expect was that these would be wheat noodles and that piqued my curiosity. Here goes my 5:30pm after work breakfast!
