#3125: Micoem Cung Dinh Kool Mi Tron Trung Muoi (Salted Egg Flavor) - Vitenam

Here’s one I found up at the Osaka market at Yaohan Centre in Richmond BC, Canada. I found this a few weeks before Christmas and usually like to peruse the interesting specials this store has around that time. They had some really interesting things like sake flavored Kit Kats and other things. Kind of expensive. But I did find this, and it wasn’t too pricy. Let’s hit it!

#2775: Vifon Garlic Flavour Instant Noodle Soup

#2775: Vifon Garlic Flavour Instant Noodle Soup

I found this one up in Canada at a place called Hen Long Market. Did find a whole lot there, but this was definitely a score. They’re made in Vietnam – however they’re for Poland! Poland! European noodles! Yeah – I’m sure you can tell that makes me happy. Always wish I can find more stuff from/for Europe.

A mild garlic noodle soup. This definitely has possibilities. But they could be anything – extremely garlicky or not very. A thin, bland soup or a nice rounded bowl. Well, only one way to find out.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion and hard boiled egg. The noodles came out very poorly after 3 minutes, but a bit more and they were more done. The broth was so-so; it had garlic flavor to it, but it smelled tastier than it was. Overall disappointing. 2.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8934561244639.

#2728: Vifon Hoang Gia Instant Noodles With Minced Pork Mi Thit Bam Vietnam The Ramen Rater Hen Long Market

We found this one at a place called Hen Long Market up in Surrey, BC on a trip a few months back. Thanks to my friend Ken for telling me about this place! So this one’s from Vietnam and I don’t often have come across Vietnamese varieties like this one. Usually, I see the same thing again and again and this one is definitely different. Let’s have a look at this minced pork variety!

Finished (click to enlarge). Really bummed out by this one. First off, the noodles didn’t hydrate all that well in t he 3 minutes called for. After doing plating and pictures, they still didn’t seem right. The broth was salty and a kind of pork flavor to it. The saving grace of this one (why it didn’t get a lower score) was the meat sachet which has nice quality minced pork. 0.25 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8934561250067.

Here’s a little about this variety of tom yam from Wikipedia –

tom yam kung (Thaiต้มยำกุ้ง) – the version of the dish most popular among tourists, is made with prawns as the main ingredient.[10] The dish originated during the Rattanakosin Kingdom.[11]

I’ve never seen this Banzai brand before which is great – always nice to see new brands I’ve not reviewed popping up! Let’s take a look!

#2562: Binh Tay Mi Hai Cua Artificial Crab Flavored Instant Noodles

#2562: Binh Tay Mi Hai Cua Artificial Crab Flavored Instant Noodles - Vietnam - The Ramen Rater - Vietnamese

These came by way of Kimmy N. of Connecticut, USA! Thanks again! It’s rare these days that a new Vietnamese variety crosses my desk – always welcome of course! I know there’s quite a few that I’m not getting which bums me out. Definitely would love to try more of them. I’ve tried a ton of them in the past, but going forward I’d like to do a lot more of these reviews.

Crab is something I’ve liked for a while, although there’s a specific part of the crab I haven’t quite understood yet. While in Malaysia, our hosts took us to a floating seafood restaurant. Fresh steamed crab, mallets, the whole 9 yards.

I was advised to try the crab roe – the crab eggs that can be scooped out of the shell in a particular area. How could I say no; I’m all about trying new things. This was the taste of the sea; deep, strong and just not at all to my liking. I asked people about whether they’d tried it before. Asian people I asked said ‘oh yeah – Asians love this taste.’

I feel that I need to try more of this and understand why. I love Spaghettios, pizza and cheeseburgers and have tried to shed the cursed Western palate and have had a great time trying to do this, but a couple tastes really have eluded me – crab roe and sea urchin. Time will tell. Let’s give this one sent by a reader a try!

The noodle hydrate well in the 3 minutes of time ad have a soft tooth and a nice gauge. There’s a decent amount of them as well. The broth has a nice buttery sweet crabby kind of deal to it. I found that the oil sachet had just enough to give the broth a good body – but not overly oily. I see why my readers like this one! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8934566000674.

#2435: Mum Ngon Lau Tom Chua Cay - Vietnam - The Ramen Rater - instant noodle vietnamese

Here’s another one I found during a November 2016 trip to Taiwan. I found this one at Carrefour in Taipei at the Miramar Entertainment Center. So one thing I found while there was that almost everything (unless you go to a Family Mart of a 7-Eleven) comes in a multi pack. I really didn’t want to get any of those – they take up extra space in luggage and a lot of the time they were really big multi packs. This one’s from Vietnam and looks to be a shrimp variant.

It’s very thin which is logical for the region and tasted good to me. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 8936010680128.
