Paldo Teumsae Ramen (9,413 SHU) - South Korea

I’ve been wanting to try this one for a great while. Happily, they were sent along by my new contact at Paldo! Thank you very much! This one screams mukbang to me but as some of you might know already, mukbang is something that’s getting harder and harder for me these days. I used to eat a LOT mre, and now I exercise and my diet is much more regulated. To put it bluntly, scarfing down a big block of carbs is easy when you do it more often than I do now.But of course, I’ll give it a shot.

I think this one will definitely test my spice handling; that’s another thing I haven’t done a lot of recently. Handling spicy foods seems like it’s kind of like a muscle – if you don’t exercise it at all it gets weak. Let’s give these a try!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, egg, beef sauteed in soy sauce, narutomaki, spring onion, and sesame seeds. The noodles are thick and luxuriant as always. Thicker than your average instant gauge, a hallmark of Korean noodle variants. The broth has a strong spiciness which isn’t for the casual spicy fan but for those who crave strong heat. Good flavor. One of my favorite varieties has been Paldo’s Cheese Noodle – that’s a really tasty one. Well, Teumsae is one of their spiciest varieties and they mashed it up with cheese. I really want to get samples of the new ultra spicy Teumsae variety, but I can’t find it anywhere from nobody… At this point, I’m wondering if it even was produced! But it had to be… Come on. It’s hanging out somewhere! Anyways, cheese is good. It’s time to do a mukbang, so check out the video at the bottom of this review.. Let’s give this one a try!

Finished (click to enlarge). Love the noodles – thick and chewy with that nice thin kinda gooey outermost layer. The broth was pretty good – definitely not the punch of Teumsae, that’s for sure. I know the cheese took off some of the sting, but it honestly seemed more like a spicy ramyun. The included vegetables were of good quality. Tasty with a slightly bitter back and an easy one for a spicy foods buff. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 8809296884200.

It’s that time of year again! Actually, this is the first time the list is coming out in July although at the tail end of July. I usually have the lists come out on the Monday closest to the date it came out the prior year. So this list is a compilation of absolutely hottest and spiciest varieties I’ve had out of the 2,500+ varieties I’ve tried thus far. Something you think belongs on this spiciest of lists? Let me know – I’ll give it a try. Let’s get started!

Note – on the day of posting I remember that there was one variety that should be in this list. I’ve given it an ‘honorable mention’ at the bottom, so don’t forget to give that a look. It will most certainly appear in next year’s list in a position on the list as it is quite spicy and truly should get it’s little place in The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time. This is one not only spicy but unique. Not only does it have a brothless noodle, it has a sachet you mix with boiling water to make a soup that is served alongside. I’ve seen this done multiple times in Taiwanese variants but never from Malaysia – good show! Original review

The bowl version of this is what is commonly used in the Fire Noodle Challenge. This stuff will really clean your clock – the initial taste is very sweet and savory and then bam. Indeed a crescendo of flame hits you palate like sucking on a charcoal briquet. Original review

The current packaging for this one has changed yet again. So now it features the name ‘Super Junior’ which is a reference to a Korean pop music act. Definitely need to try that – but at this point, this is definitely worth of the second spot. The broth is violently spicy – coats your tongue is heat and fire. Original review

There is no doubt in my mind that there’s nothing hotter than this one out there – as far as they go, this is the spiciest of the spiciest – at least that I’ve tried. This is a real burner and definitely takes my breath away. Therefore, I would say that if you aren’t comfortable with spicy foods, this will grab you, throw you on the ground and have it’s way with you. Consider this a warning in big red capital letters!! The heat will linger long after the plate is clean – if you can get that far! Original review

The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2015 Edition

As many might know, I started The Ramen Rater (click to see the old site) in 2002 and did about 60 reviews. Then, I turned my attention to spicy hot sauces with The Sauce Rater. In 2010, I resumed my instant noodle reviewing. I’ve long been a fan of the spicy side of things – strong heat and good flavor are a couple of my favorite things. Let’s have a look at the absolutely hottest varieties I’ve found in my over 1,700 reviews of instant noodles from around the world in this year’s The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time 2015 Edition.

#10: Wugudaochang Sichuan Pepper & Chicken Flavor – China

The Sichuan pepper was something relatively new to me until I really got a mouthful of them in this variety. It kind of reminds me of the way a hot pepper acts, but then when you inhale, it has a kind of cooling kind of sensation like mint; hard to explain but definitely something different. This one came with a peanut and pepper garnish and the noodles had a very nice gauge and texture. Original review here

While still not available in the United States, Jinjja Jinjja is back in South Korea! This one packs a serious punch of heat along with pork, peanut and black sesame seeds. Original review here

#8: JML Emperor Instant Noodles Spicy Chicken – China

I wasn’t expecting this one to be extremely spicy at the outset and then was in for a ride. Very very hot – augmented with a large sachet of coarse chilli peppers. Original review here

#7: emart Dare You! Habanero Jjamppong – South Korea

Extreme heat is paired with nice bit of seafood broth and lots of bits of seafood. All the fire and flavor melded together with thick ramyun noodles make it hot as well as delicious. This one comes in at 1,960 SHU (Scoville Heat Units). Original review here

#5: Ching’s Secret Hot Garlic Instant Noodles – India

When I found this one at a local Indian market, I was very enthused. I thought to myself ‘hey, I like garlic!’ I kind of expected a salty, buttery and almost fettucini kind of thing. But no – this innocuous looking plate of noodles was violently spicy! Super hot garlic spiciness just builds and builds! Original review here

I would say that I’ve seen dozens of videos on YouTube showing people competitively eating this one. This stuff is extremely hot. Another brothless variety and it really packs a punch as well as has a nice taste to it. Thick ramyun noodles round everything out nicely and will transmit the spicy sauce to your tongue. For the fourth year running, this stuff tops the list. Despite a packaging design change, you should still heed the warnings; habanero pepper top right corner, temperature gauge and screaming person, black packaging… Yeah – it’s not one to underestimate; this is violently hot. The broth just keeps delivering the heat and it’s just insane. Try licking a lit candle – I swear this stuff is hotter! Original review here

Re-Review: Paldo Teumsae Ramyun Noodles With Soup Mix

I thought it was about time to re-review this one. When people ask me about hot and spicy instant noodles that they can possibly find at a local Asian grocery, I usually steer them towards Teumsae Ramyun. Many consider this one to be the ultimate spiciest, although I have had one or two I think that have been hotter. That’s not to say that this stuff won’t challenge even the staunchest of spicy fans. This is mean. Real mean. If you ate a spicy pepper, the best thing to get rid of the heat would be a crunchy chip – when you chew, it scrapes the heat off your palate. Or milk, or sugar. The last thing would be beer or water. Well, this is soup. It sinks that spicy heat right down into your taste buds even deeper! Let’s revisit this spicy Paldo Teumsae Ramyun again and see why it’s been on the Top Ten Spicy List since the list’s inception.

The broth is so spicy; it’s like a freight train of spiciness. Mere words can’t describe how spicy Teumsae Ramyun is. THE TOP TEN SPICIEST INSTANT NOODLES OF 2015 HAS BEEN RELEASED, REPLACING THIS LIST – SEE IT HERE

If you like it hot, you’re in for a real treat here. These are the spiciest instant noodles you can get that I’ve reviewed from my 1,446 reviews thus far. If you can’t handle spicy foods, these definitely aren’t for you – these are serious! Many of these were so hot, I couldn’t finish the bowl – and I can handle a decent amount of heat! I used to review hot sauces! Anyways, Hope everyone is having a great summer and here are the spiciest instant noodles of all time for 2014!

#10: Nongshim Harmony Korean Spicy Noodle Dish With Chipotle – United States

This unique instant is very new and quite spicy. What’s interesting about is that you can serve it hot or cold, but the spiciness is going to bite you either way! This is the only variety I’ve found featuring chipotle pepper heat. Original review

#9: Mamee Mi Segera SLLRRRP! Perencah Kari Xtra Pedas – Malaysia

The noodles are good – plump with a nice chewiness. The broth is very spicy and hot – not for the faint of heat! It has a good curry flavor to it. If you like spicy curry, check this one out. By the way, Kari Xtra Pedas means extra hot curry if you couldn’t figure that out! Original review

#8: Maggi Extra Spicy Curry Instant Noodles – Singapore

#7: MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle – Malaysia

2014_8_4_tts_007When MyKuali’s White Curry Noodle hit this list last year, there was a bit of a craze for it in Malaysia! People really wanted to give it a try. Not only is it retaining it’s spot this year on the spicy list, but it is the reigning number one on The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014 list. #6: Indomie Curly Noodle With Chicken & Chilli Paddi – Indonesia

This one’s a lot of fun; kind of like Russian roulette on a plate! You’re eating your noodles and all of a sudden wham! There’s usually a couple of these little chillies in there and they pack an extreme punch. You’ll definitely know it when you find it! Original review

Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Paldo Teumsae Ramyun

I saw a YouTube video recently where a man is trying to handle the heat of this instant ramyun. He couldn’t – to the point of cursing these noodles. Another reason that Paldo’s Teumsae Ramyun is #1 on the Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles of All Time list. But Teumsae; what is that? Teumsae is a well known restaurant chain in Korea. They’re well known for their spicy ways as well!

Finished (click image to enlarge). I added an egg, some onions, a slice of processed cheese and a bit of roast beef with Krazy Mixed Up Salt on top. As always, I sampled before I added everything. The noodles are thick and chewy. The broth is just plain mean! Yeah – this is the hottest and spiciest stuff out there that I’ve found. I had good reason to put this at #1 on that spiciest ramen list! The veggies are good too. Also, just to let you know how how this stuff is, it’s burning my mouth really good as I eat it with the egg and cheese and onions added – wow! 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 648436100613.

Warning – IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE HOT AND SPICY FLAVORS, STAY AWAY!!!

So first off, help with translation here would be great. I think the words on the front of the package have a bit more going on than Paldo Teumsae. Teumsae seems to be another company.

I tasted the pinch of the powder. Seemed a little spicy.

Click image to enlarge. I dropped an egg right into the noodles as they cooked. I saw a guy do this on YouTube so thought why not. Well first off, this stuff is hot. I mean hot – probably the spiciest flavored instant noodles I’ve ever had. My mouth, throat and lips are burning like mad right now. The noodles are good enough – slightly ballsy. The egg added a nice element of freshness and the vegetables are very very ample – I mean there’s tons of them! Very good! a 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.
