Here’s an interesting one from Japan found in a Zenpop box – check out zenpop.jp and use the coupon code RAMENRATER for a discount!

Here’s what they had to say – ‘This abura soba (油そば) is a new release of the popular famous Ramen Specialty Store Bubuka in Kichijoji, Tokyo, which pioneered the now famous Cup Abura Soba. By sprinkling the included condiments, you can enjoy the stimulating taste of 5 spicy sauces, which is the highest level in the history of Myojo. The makers added red pepper and chili extract to the soy sauce to make full use of the umami of lard and grilled pork, and the noodles are is finished in a spicy and rich sensation that makes the aftertaste addictive. By adding mayo, the flavor stands out even more, and the voluminous cup of “Myojo’s thickest noodles in history” is entwined with it, making it the unique Bubuka Style Aburasoba. It says so on the package, “No. 1 in sales of cup abura soba”. That’s a statement to its popularity. So many products are released every year, but this one stays around and holds on to its crown. Some people say it’s devilishly good. That’s probably because of the red pepper power that condenses to a punchy sense of umami. It matches perfectly with the thick noodles. It’s an experience on its own. If you’re not yet a Bubuka fan, you might want to add the shop to your list on your next visit to Tokyo!’

The noodle block – note the thickness of the noodle.

A wet base sachet.

A dry powder base sachet.

A sachet of mayonnaise.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added egg, shichimi, spring onion, sesame seed. Noodles are very thick in this one. The spicy level is about a medium; flavor is interesting. The mayonnaise did not work here; made a saucy noodle taste more like it came from McDonald’s which I was surprised at. 2.5 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4902881419499.
