The Ramen Rater Diet – How I lost 65 Pounds In 6 Months

The Ramen Rater Diet - How I lost 65 Pounds In 6 Months

People have been noticing I’ve lost a lot of weight in a short period of time – thanks! They’ve also been asking which diet I’m doing. Well, I decided to strike out on my own. This video outlines everything I’ve been doing. I’ll be coming out with these every 6 months or so.

Why the big change? Well, I’ve been unhappy with my weight for years and it’s always been a battle. besides being a ‘victim of deliciousness,’ a phrase coined by Homer Simpson, I’m legally blind which means it’s hard to get around. But when my doctor gave me a talk on October 18th, 2018, it made me take action. I’ve been told before that I need to make big changes by doctors, but this just turned out to be the day and words I needed. My cholesterol was really high. We used to have mac and cheese with bratwursts quite often, I also ate a lot of eggs, and on Tuesdays Papa Murphy’s has a great deal on pizza. I also didn’t have any kind of thought as to how much I’d eat – if it tasted good, I’d just eat it and as much as I wanted.

He told me that if I kept going the way I was, I would be headed for an early grave, and with two children at home, I needed to make changes not only for myself but for my family. So I did.

The video below is a rundown of everything. Please feel free to comment and ask any questions – I’m more than happy to answer them!

The Ramen Rater Diet – How I lost 65 Pounds In 6 Months

I’ve also done a video showing something I often have for dinner, which definitely has a big tie-in with the ramen world:

Here’s where to get some of the Hakubaku Mochi Barley, and some Progresso Soup. It’s a great combo I think.

I decided to get on the scale a month after visiting the doctor when I found out I’d lost 65 pounds. I lost 14 more, so I’m down 79 pounds. I’ll do another set of videos in six months with an update!

#1397: Wu-Mu Steam Seafood Flavor Ramen

Here’s something from Taiwan. These noodles aren’t fried – they’re steamed. This lowers the fat content by quite a bit, although they will break your teeth if you try eating them like snack noodles! Most of Wu-Mu’s products are this way and they’re usually pretty good. This is a four pack – you get four of everything! Let”s have a look inside.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). To prepare, add one noodle block to 550ml boiling water for 3 minutes. Add one seasoning sachet and one oil sachet and stir. Enjoy!

Here’s one of the four noodle blocks.

One of the four seasoning sachets.

Powder and bits and pieces including little narutomaki.

One of the four shrimp infused oil sachets.

Has a faint shrimp scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sweet onion, green onion and narutomaki. The noodles are broad and flat. The seem of higher quality and have a fresh sense to them. The broth has a buttery seafood flavor which was nice. The seaweed and narutomaki that was included were of reasonable quality. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 4710175565551.

#919: Maruchan 35% Less Sodium Beef Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Ah! The elusive 35% less sodium pack! A lot of you have asked about lower sodium instant noodles – here’s one. Each pack has two servings at 510mg sodium each instead of 790mg of sodium (look at the back of the package below for details). Found it recently at Walmart actually. Its funny how many Asian grocery stores I know of and hit up for new noodles to review from time to time, but I still find new items at the biggest grocery store around. I’m hoping to be doing a Meet The Manufacturer with Maruchan sometime soon too! That’s going to be great! Anyways, let’s see how this one is…

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge).

The noodle block.

A single packet of seasoning – classic!

If you’re wondering, yes – it tastes salty. It also has a nice beef taste too.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added a little thin sliced rib eye, sweet onion and stir fry veggies. The noodles are good – plentiful and of a good consistency. The broth is great – I would say it has no negative effects of being a lower sodium broth; it’s good – lots of nice beef flavor and it is decently salty as well. This I like a lot. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars -if you’re looking for something in the lower sodium bracket, I’d start with this one. UPC bar code 041789004124 – get it here!

#355: Nongshim Noodle Lite 275 Lite Udon Flavor With Mushroom & Agar Jelly

So here’s something interesting. This is for the health conscious noodle fan – from Korea, we have Nongshim’s Noodle Lite 275.

A couple good sized packets

Like I said, a lot of seasonings.

Click image to enlarge. So an easy and quick prep in the microwave. It’s nice that it’s so low in fat, but one would think that they would mention that the flavor of the red pepper shouldn’t overwhelm any taste of mushroom. In fact this was very disappointing. No issues with peppers mind you, just a bummer as we were hoping for some tasty mushroominess. Funky but healthy… 2.5 out of 5.0 stars.

#331: Sunlee Crab Flavour Instant Noodle (Bowl)

So here’s something I’ve not tried before – Sunlee brand from Thailand! Crab is usually a pretty good instant noodle flavor… Let’s see how this tastes…

Clockwise from top: a fork (gee, no way!), chili powder and soup base dual packets and seasoned oil.

So I noticed that it said that there was no fat in it which I figured couldn’t possibly be correct when it said how many calies were from fat. So if you ever see something like this and you need to know, there’s 9 calories per gram of fat. So its about 12.2 grams of fat here.

Seasonings atop the noodle block.

Click image to enlarge. I added two fried eggs with a little garlic salt. Well I must say this is super uber tasty stuff! The noodles were very nice, the broth was very tasty and spicy enough too. I was extremely pleased and happy to give this one 4.5 out of 5.0 stars!
