#745: Nongshim Jinjja Jinjja (Really Really) Ramyun

Here’s something really new and very different from a lot of the instant noodles I’ve reviewed before. Jinjja Jinjja translates to “Really Really” (Spicy Spicy) – and I suppose in this review we’re going to find out how really really spicy Jinjja is! I should say that I sampled this one at Nongshim America while I was down there, so I have tried it before – but not a while bowl of it. I found out that the flavor comes from boiling pork bones for a long time, black beans and peanuts! It also turns out that the wheat flour used to make these has some red pepper powder added to them – heat in the noodle as well as from the dry seasonings! Let’s give this a try! ...see full post

#722: Yamamoto Seafood Flavor Ramen

Some Japanese stuff that’s been waiting for just the right day – and this is it. I may have not translated the title exactly right – a few things mentioned ‘thickening’ and ‘flour,’ so this may be thick seafood ramen.  Anyways, shall we? ...see full post

Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer – Nissin Demae Ramen With Sesame Oil

Well folks, this is the last one I’ll be reviewing for Meet The Manufacturer: Nissin week. There will be more Nissin reviews coming of course so don’t worry. The ramen hamper runneth over with new varieties to try! So this is a very old one – old as in I reviewed it was back at number #85 – over 600 reviews ago. I think it’s due. ...see full post

Our First Experience With Kamaboko & Narutomaki

I’ve seen many times mentions of Kamaboko and Naruto in ramen dishes and looked all over for them. This last Saturday we went to Uwajimaya and I found both! Hah! First, let’s check out Kamaboko. It’s surimi, which comes in many ways – for example, imitation crab is one form of surimi. ...see full post

Awesome Birthday Stuff From My Wife & Mother In Law!!!

A box! What’s inside?

Oh wow rad!

Today, we went to the Uwajimaya in Seattle – found some more ramen there and some new little bowls for showing the packet contents and a new ramen bowl! It’ll show up soon! She also has some more instant noodles on the way for me! I’m spoiled! Thank you sweety! ...see full post

#676: Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Mi Celor Spicy Coconut Shrimp Soup Flavour

This is a real treat – this is one of the varieties not available in the United States and was kindly sent by Edwin N. of Vancouver, BC! Thank you again so much!
He sent six of them and so I will try one of them every once in a while so they last. I am a huge fan of Indomie’s products and so very happy about this! I
should also mention that I have been directly contacted by Indomie and they are going to be sending me many varieties that aren’t usually available – that
donation will come at some point in the future. For now though, let’s check out spicy coconut shrimp flavor soup! ...see full post

#655: Cap Atoom Bulan Mie Telor Asli

Found this last week while looking for stuff to make my curry soup. Not something standard here; just noodles. But they’re fried noodles from Indonesia by the company that makes the Super Bihun. That rad looking bomb logo calls to me and so here we try Mie Telor Asli Cap Atoom Bulan. ...see full post

#651: Wingsfood Mi Sedaap Mi Segera Mi Sup Perisa Kari Ayam

Yesterday I went to HT Oaktree Market on 100th & Aurora in North Seattle. I went to get some things to make a batch of my curry soup and of course hit up the noodle aisle. Was thinking of re-reviewing the Mi Sedaap curry I’d had before as well, but as it turns out, I snagged a new one I hadn’t reviewed yet. Then this morning, I noticed a lot of people coming to The Ramen Rater from a forum on a Singapore website – they were all coming because of a link to Mi Sedaap Perisa Asli, something I’d reviewed a while back. I thought I should review a new Mi Sedaap today, so here we go. ...see full post

#639: Nissin Gozen Kitsune Udon

Kitsune Udon Gozen, as I type thy name into here, I am pretty sure you’ll be remembered as one of my all time favorites. This was purchased during a recent trip to Seattle to Uwajimaya. It was there that I truly began my journey into the world of the instant noodle so many years ago. ...see full post

#627: Omachi Xốt Spaghetti Beef

Thanks to Todd T. of Everett, Washington for hooking me up with this one – he got it from a Vietnamese client. Spaghetti from Vietnam eh? Sounds interesting. Nothing at all is in English on this packaging, so I’m going to be winging it. ...see full post

#566: Food Mon DJ-DOC Jjolmyeon

This is another from the DJ-DOC line. DJ-DOC is a kind of boy band/dance trio from Korea from what I see on Youtube. The last one of these I had was pretty spicy and like a lasagna! Curious how this one’ll be! This one has ‘jjolmyeon – what’s that you say? Here’s a little wisdon from the Wikipedia: ...see full post

#500: Mexi-Ramen Soupless Ramen Shallot Teriyaki Flavor

So my in-laws sent me this unique pack from California. My wife’s dad’s co-worker was eating it and so he got one from him and her mom sent it my way! Thank you! I’ve never heard of Mexi-Ramen before this, nor have I seen it anywhere before. I think my first reaction is confusion: Mexi+Teriyaki+Made In Malaysia+Sold in USA = I’m not sure. So not I shall open the package and attempt to relate what that equation’s solution is… And so… Bring on REVIEW NUMBER FIVE HUNDRED!!! ...see full post

#461: Samyang Sutah Ramen Hot & Spicy Beef Flavor

Been meaning to try and review this one for a while and today seems like a good day to do it. I’m a little confused about this one; I looked up Sutah and couldn’t find anything about the word on Google or Wikipedia… Found plenty of Korean BBQ restaurant links but nothing saying what Sutah might mean. Hmm. Well, let’s get to it. ...see full post

#449: Wu-Mu Beef Flavor Ramen Mi Bo

This package was part of a five pack found at a 99 Ranch near Anaheim, CA. I’ve never seen such a basic variety from Wu-Mu before and it really piqued my curiosity. Wu-Mu prides itself on being a more premium brand and doesn’t fry their noodles but steams them. The result is less fat this whole pack has only 4g fat, compared to something like 14-22 grams in a fried instant noodle. Let’s see how this stuff is for breakfast with a couple of eggs. ...see full post

Where To Get It: OC Market Poultry & Rotisserie in Anaheim, CA

This place was awesome! Quite a few varieties of noodles I hadn’t seen before – pretty much the full line of FF bowls and even a Sunlee square bowl. Not only that, but the woman who was at the register was really nice and actually talked to us! A lot of the time at checkouts at Asian groceries I find that the people working there don’t make eye contact or even speak to us at all. One other thing – the place smelled really good – I think that it’d be an excellent place to eat in as well. Highly recommended! ...see full post

#409: Payless Instant Mami Chicken Flavor

IN THE NEWS

Some mention of The Ramen Rater has appeared in print, radio and televised media from time to time. This is where you’ll find it. Well, a lot of it. It’s kind of strange to say, but I get a lot of press about what I do, especially in Southeast Asia – strange to say but definitely humbling. ...see full post
