#3845: Nongshim Shin Black With Beef Bone Broth - United States

I hear it already – ‘but it’s from Korea!’ Look. Just humor me. Look. Lower left. Made in USA. Unless you visited South Korea and brought some back from Canada (they’re probably from their Chinese factory if so), then you’ve been eating Korean style instant noodles made in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Their factory is a really neat place – first one I ever had the fortune to visit and it was really neat.

Shin Black has been on my Top Ten South Korean list for a few years now.

This particular variety has gone through many, many changes. The first I tried was this version about ten years ago. There was some kind of kerfuffle about distribution back then I can’t remember exactly what. Then there’s the cups – this one was completely different from what we have now, with an onion flavor. It was incredibly good, however they opted to make the cups more in tune with the pack version. They’ve contained little pieces of meat as well – freeze dried beef which were absolutely excellent, but then they dropped that in recent years – probably a supply or expense change. Packaging changed recently to reflect mention of bone broth and to a horizontal aspect instead of a vertical. This is flagship stuff so they are really into keeping it current.

This is one that I have liked for years and seen it go through many different changes. Today we have a packaging change, the beef bone broth tag is a new thing. Time to give it a try.

Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Contains beef. To prepare, add everything to 550ml boiling water and cook for 4 minutes. Finally, stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

A dry sachet of soup base.

A sachet of Sul-Long-Tang base.

A vegetables sachet.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added marinated egg, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, mushroom, pepper flake, spring onion, and sesame seed. Noodle is very toothsome and thick. Broth is very savory and spicy with a good heartiness to it. Definitely like the beef bone broth inclusion – a good one. Very impressed. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 031146013524.
