#3711: Single Grain Spicy Sichuan Pepper Instant Noodles – China

#3711: LM Spicy Sichuan Pepper Instant Noodles - China

This one’s a bit of a toughie for me. I found it called LM Spicy Pepper Instant Noodle and thought that can’t be quite it. I also found something by searching the bar code having to do with this noodle and Sprite – like the soda. Maybe a package deal? I’m not sure. My thought is that this is actually a green sichuan pepper variety – I mean the lettering is green… I hope not since I abhor green Sichian pepper. But we shall see. Instructions look to b pretty straightforward at least.

Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add boiling water to line and cover for 5 minutes. Add in sachet contents. Also, add a teaspoon of Sprite (yes, the soda). Finally, stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

Looks like a spicy sauce sachet.

An oily sachet.

Looks like a vegetables sachet – garlic perhaps?

A bag of peanut garnish.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added sliced chashu, spring onion, sesame seed, and pepper flake. The noodles are flat and broad and have a nice soft character to them. The flavor is a real surprise – while it does have a Sichuan peppercorn heat in there, it comes and goes in such a mystifying way. It’s creamy, my guess from the addition of the Sprite? I’m not sure, but it came across very western. Then there was what I’m guessing was garlic stem or kelp which was a nice touch. Peanuts gave a nice crunch here and there as well. This was worth trying and I highly recommend it. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6971860060920.
