#3026: Mom's Dry Noodle Shiitake Zhajiang - Taiwan

Today we’ve got something new from Mom’s Dry Noodle with their new shiitake zhajiang. Shiitake mushrooms… Hmmm… Curious if I’ll like this one… I wish I liked mushrooms more – my wife loves mushrooms – so does my buddy from Germany. Shiitake have a strong flavor to them… Curious how that will translate in here. Hopefully well! Let’s find out!

Thick stuff.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added cucumber, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, and carrot. Noodles came out perfectly – flat and broad with a really great chew to them. They were perfect for the flavor – bit of mushroom throughout and a nice savory sauce. I expected an onslaught of shiitake flavor (which I’m not usually keen on in other varieties)  and found a nice flavor that had a great balance and texture. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 4717011150247.

Vegetarian MAMA Samples FromThai President Foods

A nice package came in the mail today from Thailand! I saw some pictures one of the people I met in Thailand posted on facebook that showed some neat yellow-packaged varieties I’d not tried and so I asked what they were.

Vegetarian tom yum and vegetarian shiitake mushroom and tofu! Very cool!

Both in pack and cup form. Thank you very much to Ms. Pojjana and Ms. Ratha for sending these – looking forward to trying them!

The noodle block.

The powder base sachet.

A very light powder with a nice mushroom and chicken scent.

The garnish sachet.

Lots of greenery as well as nice chunks of shiitake and chilli pepper.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added Fresno chilli pepper, shiitake mushroom and chicken sauteed with some AGV sweet chilli sauce. The noodles are really good with a nice firmness and chew. They’re definitely premium. The broth has a strong spicy component and good chicken and mushroom flavor. The veggies didn’t hide and they were good – the shiitake was nicely hydrated. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 9555022303246.

Nice looking assortment here.

Seasoned oil sachet.

Thick stuff!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added Crimini mushroom. The noodles are very good. They have a premium chewiness and excellent quality. The broth has a strong mushroom taste. For being a non-fan of mushrooms, I’m surprised how much I liked this one. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 4710175565216.

#1274: Wu-Mu Shiitake Flavor Spinach Ramen

I’ve just got to face it; I’ve got noodles coming out of my ears here! There’s a big bag of these Wu-Mu noodles next to my bed that I’ve been almost tripping over as of late. They don’t fit anywhere else and each one is a 4 pack! I thought today my son and I would try a couple varieties. I figured I’d give this one a shot. I’m definitely not a huge fan of mushrooms, but the spinach noodles sounded nice. Let’s have a look!

The distributor sticker (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself.

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). To prepare, boil 600ml water. Add noodle block and cook for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add oil and dry sachet and stir.

Green spinach noodles.

Dry sachet.

Very light and very dry.

The seasoned oil sachet.

I made the mistake of getting some of this on my fingers and then licking it off. Ugh!

Finished (click image to enlarge). The noodles have a very nice chew to them. Their gauge is good as well, and a nice flavor. They aren’t overwhelmingly spinach flavored in the least. The broth is light in flavor (the flavor of the liquid sachet was very much diluted which was good) and has enough oil to give it some heartiness. The vegetables are highlighted by goodly sized chunks of shiitake mushroom which are decent. I am surprised how much I like this one. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 4710175565438.

#790: GreeNoodle Shiitake and Soy Sauce

Aha the GreeNoodle. I will be the first to admit that I think I’ve only liked one of these that I’ve reviewed. This one’s mushroom too, a flavor I rarely care for. But I’m really hoping I like this one.

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). I should also say that the Vulcan Science Ministry has found no evidence that time travel is possible.

Yes. They’re green!

The powdered seasoning packet.

I am not a big fan of mushrooms and really don’t know much about shitakes, but if they taste like skunky earwax, this powder’s spot-on.

Soy sauce packet.

This is pretty decent soy sauce.

Finished (click image to enlarge). As usual, I’m not really stoked on these noodles. While they are great as far as texture and chewing go, they have this strange aftertaste that reminds me slightly of what a freshly opened jar of vitamins has (kind of funny since they purport their rich vitamin content). The broth is mushroom flavored for sure. I must admit I expected it to taste worse than it does, what with the taste of the powder. Long story short, if you have to eat something that says healthy and you like mushrooms and all things earthy, languishing in health food stores and the like, I would say this is for you. It surprises me how much people really like this stuff; I guess my palate is a bit different. In any case, the more varieties of instant noodles, the better! I however can’t finish it I dislike it so much. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8850987139161 – get it here.

This guy’s been doing ramen reviews from time to time on YouTube and so I thought I’d put his up for this one. It’s a different view on this product.
