#10: Mama Instant Noodles Moo Nam Tok Flavour

MAMA Instant Noodles Moo Nam Tok

Added mint leaf, green nira, coriander, lettuce, and sauteed pork, red bell pepper, sweet onion and garlic with a dash of soy sauce. The noodles came out just perfectly as they usually do – they don’t get too full of water and have a very nice gauge and feel. The broth has a spicy and heavily spiced flavor with some heat to it – very rich and strong flavors. I liked it a lot Original review

#9: Wai Wai Quick Zabb Tom Yum Shrimp Flavour Instant Noodles

WaiWai Quick Zabb Tom Yum Instant Noodle

Added shrimp, fishball, sliced green onion, bell pepper, sweet onion and lime. The noodles are just right for tom yum with a nice texture and crumble. The broth is a slap in the face of strong spiciness and has a very nice citrus and shrimp flavor as well. The spiciness is almost ‘crisp,’ if that makes sense. Original review

#8: Little Cook Instant Noodles Shrimp Tom Yum Flavour Cup

Little Cook Instant Noodles Tom Yum Cup

Added mung bean sprouts, shrimp and coriander. The noodles were thin as you would expect in most cups with a bit of a crumble to them. The broth was extremely good – everything was there – heat, lemongrass and a good flavor. Original review

#7: Mama Instant Cup Noodles Seafood Pad Kee Mao Flavour Cup

MAMA Extreme Pad Kee Mao Instant Noodles Cup

Added coriander, sliced squid, mung bean sprouts, sweet onion, shrimp, seafood flavored tofu and Jane’s Krazy Mixed Up Pepper seasoning. The noodles are thin and light with a decent little bounce to them. They aren’t like the ones you’d experience in MAMA Tom Yum packs that are pre-seasoned with a nice crumble, but different. The flavor is really quite good and can be summed as kind of a sweet seafood taste with a great bite of spiciness and then this lingering flavor from the holy basil. It’s got a really different flavor I wish was present more often instant noodle varieties. The dehydrated carrot and seafood hydrated very nicely. This was a very pleasant surprise! Original review

#6: Yum Yum Premier Bowl Instant Noodles Suki Flavour

YumYum Suki Instant Noodles Premier Bowl

Added green Thai chillies from Dwayne B., Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, boiled pork for hot pot, carved squid, white onion, coriander, tofu puff, lime and Sriraja Panich Chilli Sauce from Michael over at EastLand Foods. The noodles hydrated well with a hint of crumble that works. The broth is fascinating; it has a kind of lime and tamarind kind of flavor to it with a little heat and garlic as well. The retort pouch had some nice pork and little balls which reminded me of fishball which really added a lot of nice texture and flavor. Original review

#5: Mama Instant Rice Noodle Soup Spicy Shrimp Flavour

MAMA Tom Yum Goong Spicy Shrimp Rice Noodles

Added coriander, fish ball, white onion and mung bean sprouts. The noodles are very good – broad in nature and light in chew. They’re slippery, so I found that using kitchen scissors to make a couple crosscuts through the mass of noodles in the pot made them easier to navigate. The broth is really good – has a spicy and lemongrass flavor with a nice shrimp hit, plus a nice sweetness as well I wasn’t expecting. The little shrimp are in there as well, which hydrated quite nicely. Very pleased with this one Original review

#4: Yum Yum Jumbo Instant Noodles Tom Yum Kung Creamy Flavour

Yum Yum Jumbo Tom Yum Kung Creamy Instant Noodles

Added shrimp, fish balls, mung bean sprouts, lime and coriander. The noodles are very nice – thin and have a very light chew with just the faint hint of crumble to them. The broth is amazingly good – spicy, lemongrass, shrimp and a beautiful color to boot. Original review

#3: Mama Instant Noodles Shrimp Creamy Tom Yum Flavour

MAMA Shrimp Creamy Tom Yum

Added shrimp, Thai chillies, mung bean sprouts, white onion and coriander. The noodles hydrated very nicely, with that trademark gauge and slight crumble that MAMA noodles always have. The broth is spectacular – brilliant looking and with a slightly sweet, spicy, lemongrassy, shrimpy, creamy balance that’s just superb. Love this stuff! Original review

#2: Mama Instant Noodles Yentafo Tom Yum Mohfai

MAMA Instant Noodles Tom Yum Mohfai Yentafo

Added fish balls, sweet onion, Fresno chilli pepper and green onion. The noodles are the standard ‘brown noodle’ that MAMA makes – they have a bit of seasoning and have a firm yet agreeably crumbly texture. The broth has a light spiciness and sweetness to it with just a skosh of heartiness from the oil that works perfectly. I was extremely pleased with this one – extremely. Original review

#1: Mama Oriental Style Instant Noodles Green Curry Flavour

MAMA Instant Noodles Green Curry

Added shrimp, green nira, mung bean sprouts and coriander. The noodles are thin and plentiful with a good texture and chewiness. The broth has a really nice heat to it and more than I expected. The flavor is a very nice green curry. Excellent! Original review

#1930: Koh Thai Island Of Flavours Lemongrass Instant Noodles Soup

Another one from James B. over in The Netherlands – thanks! I thought this one looked really interesting; it’s made in Singapore specifically for Koh Thai brand in The Netherlands. Let’s crack this one open!

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Contains crustacean. To prepare, place the noodles in a bowl, add 400ml boiling water. Wait for 2-3 minutes, add the herbs, stir gently and enjoy!

The noodle block.

A dual sachet…

A powder base with some vegetable flecks.

A seasoned oil.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added barbeque pork. The noodles are pretty good – suck up a lot of the broth. But the broth. I’m trying. Really. Hard. This has not even the utterring of the first syllable of lemongrass in it’s flavor. What’s funny it that I detected the hint of lemongrass scent from the powder base, but in this broth, I don’t taste a lot more than maybe a slightly spicy take on a sesame noodle.  I’m particularly at odds with myself on this one as I found it actually to be quite tasty. Then again, if you bought tickets to see a baroque chamber music quartet play a piece of music at a university and then punch the address into your GPS and arrive at the Tacoma Done and it’s a Justin Bieber concert, you might be taken aback. 0.25 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 8717662261060.

A nice Tom Yum Goong recipe.

#1695: MAMA Cup Shrimp Creamy Tom Yum

A few years back, I started noticing a lot of people leaving comments about MAMA Shrimp Creamy tom Yum. The first time I had it I wasn’t keen on it. They kept saying ‘dude, try it again – this stuff is awesome.’ So I did and was blown over – awesome stuff. I think the first time I tried it was a review in the low 100’s. It’s funny; after trying so many kinds, your tastebuds look for different things and your palate kind of matures. MAMA Shrimp Creamy Tom Yum was on the 2013 Top Ten Instant Noodle list. This cup was a neat one to find – I got it at a place I’ve wanted to visit for quite a while – an Asian 7-11.

During our trip to Thailand, we stayed at the Chatrium Hotel. My sister and I wanted to find some postcards to send back home, and the concierge there said to try the little shop a little ways down the street. Lo and behold, 7-11. They didn’t have postcards, but they had a lot of other amazing things…

Just take a gander at that! Right across from the Slurpee machines – which were Cherry and Coke flavored. It really reminded me of a 7-11 that you would see in the states, except it was way way more interesting. The huge amount of instant noodles was far larger than the candy aisle and about the same size as where the chips were. It’s crazy; I feel like some day I’ll have to move my family overseas just to stay for a while to review all the ones they have at 7-11’s! What more crazy is they have them all over Asia. I think one thing you’ll notice as well – almost all cups. Well, I’ve never reviewed the local Thai MAMA Creamy Shrimp Tom Yum variety, so let’s check it out!

Detail of the side panels (click image to enlarge). Note – I removed color and changed contrast for better readability. Not sure if it contains shrimp but pretty sure it does. To prepare, add in sachet contents and fill to line with boiling water. let steep for 3 minutes covered. Stir and enjoy!

An included fork!

The noodle block.

The solid ingredients sachet.

A nice spicy and lemongrass scent.

A seasoned oil sachet.

Getting a shrimp scent here.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added white onion, red bell pepper, coriander and fish ball. The noodle have that wonderful MAMA wheat noodle character I’ve enjoyed in their other cup varieties – a slight crumble and a strong backbone. The broth brings all the flavor of the pack version of the shrimp creamy tom yum but some extra strength it seems. This is just what I wanted to eat tonight. The balance of lemongrass, shrimp flavor [and tiny shrimp which hydrated perfectly) and spiciness make an excellent shrimp creamy tom yum cup.  5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8850987128400.

An older MAMA TV spot featuring their cups as well as an app for iPhone – wish I had one – I dig noodle games!

Meet The Manufacturer: #1062: Tasty Bite 1 Step-1 Minute Asian Noodles Lemongrass Ginger

Here’s another one from Tasty Bite – Lemongrass Ginger! Let’s check it out.

Back of the package (click image to enlarge). Vegan.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added red bell pepper, beef, sweet onion and kizami shoga (pickled gonger) sauteed with soy sauce. The noodles have a nice character – nice rounded gauge and good chew. I would have thought they’d been mushy and soggy after being in a bag surrounded by a light sauce and veggies, but that’s not the case here. The flavor is a little spicy and a very light ginger and lemongrass taste. The abundance of fresh ingredients is wonderful – really nice to come across a fresh carrot or tidbit of baby corn. Amazing what food technology has produced these days – piping hot in one minute. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.

Tasty Bite makes all sorts of quick to prepare products. Here’s a recipe demo by one of the co-founders of Tasty Bite – sounds good!

#596: Thai Kitchen Lemongrass & Chili Instant Rice Noodle Soup

Yeah, I know – two ramens in one day? But these be small. Anyways, I wanted to see if switching back to a different camera worked better. I’m still unsure… Lemongrass and chili eh? Okay let’s do this.

Here’s the back panel… Click image to enlarge.

Chili oil and powder seasoning.

Awaiting the noodles and water.

Click image to enlarge. Added an egg. Well, much like the last review, the stuff sucked up most all of the water. The difference this time however is that its funky. The pungent lemongrass flavor overwhelms; felt like I was eating a bowl of tartar sauce. Really disappointing. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars. Find it here.

Haha – bad fish sauce sounds raunchy!

#471: Koyo Lemongrass Ginger Ramen Made With Organic Noodles

The first thing I noticed about this one was that it was expired. I got these at The Market At Anacortes on July 4th or 5th this year. I’m sure they’re still fine but jeez! Lenmongrass ginger… I like ginger that’s for sure. Wondering about lemongrass though – I guess we’ll see…

Single packet of powder.

Yup – powder – nothing much to see here really.

Click image to enlarge. Added one egg and cooked it with the noodles. Well, I must say I am rather taken aback by the way these noodles taste. The noodles aren’t bad by themselves – a little chewy. The broth had a lemongrass and slight ginger flavor. The thing is, is that I don’t think anybody checked to see what slapping all these ingredients together would be like in one’s mouth, otherwise known as a facehole. Therefore it is my decree that these are funky and not so good. My wife found them to be nasty and the one word I would call them would be muddy. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars; truly disappointing. Find it here.
