#4530: Mykai Tonkotsu Ramen - Japan

Here’s another one I found at Asian Family Market the other day. This is a brand I’ve never seen before and thought ‘let’s give it a try.’ It was anice afternoon – brought our new Lab puppy Pepper with us to get her fitted for a choke chain, got some dog food and then of course to the Asian grocery. It was hopping in that area, that’s for sure.

On the way home, we were passing through Lake Forest Park, just west of where we live. We noticed a ton of police cars and were  figuring there was an accident or something. What was weird is they were all walking around, looking all over –  – up trees, even! I turned on the police scanner app on my phone and we figured it out. So, a guy who had warrants for arrest for burglary in th county north of us was recognized by a police sergeant. He was talking to the guy and he fled., and went into someone’s house and hid in the basement. We kept listening – they called in all sorts of people – SWAT, dog handlers, a Bearcat vehicle, a robot, all sorts of craziness. We listened to the police scanner for five hours – was very entertaining – I couldn’t imagine what was going through that guy’s head in that basement. Luckily, I don’t do that kind of stuff, so I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Let’s give this ramen  a try!

The noodle block.

A sachet of dry soup base powder.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added chashu, shichimi, egg, spring onion, mung bean sprouts, and sesame seed. Noodle was pretty good. The broth was a kind of funky tonkotsu which I kind of liked, kind of didn’t. Thickness was nice, but an underlying funk I couldn’t put my finger on. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4973288780468.
