Here’s one that came in a Zenpop.jp box – use coupon code THERAMENRATER for a groovy discount!

Here’s what they have to say about it – ‘For the noodle connoisseurs among you, you’re probably thinking: shouldn’t it be UFO? No it’s not a typo, Nissin released a limited edition of their UFO yakisoba called VFO, where V stands for: Victory! This month is exam season in Japan. For most students, this might be a life-changing experience, as their exams will lead to their future
universities. To wish them luck, Nissin added a Daruma figure on the cover. Daruma is the traditional symbol of victory in Japan, and it’s typical to buy one, paint one eye black while making a wish, and the other eye once the wish comes true! In Japanese, victory, or winning, is called katsu (勝), hence the name, katsu soba (勝そば). Don’t forget to check below the lid when you open it for a little surprise, and magical healing powers!’

This is really neat – sounding. I bet it’s going to be hard to put down, honestly, but we shall see.

Detail of the cellophane wrapper’s underside (click to enlarge). Let me say that scanning and then Photoshopping this took a while. A long while. So yeah – click to enlarge. Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, fill to line with boiling water and cover 5 minutes. Drain. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

Detail of the lid (click to enlarge). The center square spot had a sachet glued to it – the one at the very bottom.

The noodle block.

Loose ingredients from the tray.

A large sachet of yakisoba sauce.

A small sachet affixed to the lid – shichimi, perhaps?

Finished (click to enlarge). Added mayonnaise, narutomaki, spring onion, shichimi, sesame seed, chashu, and soft egg. Noodles are plentiful and on point. The flavor is that of a tasty sauce ykisoba – tart and savory. The little bit of added furikake was nice, and the cabbage was perfect. Solid and excellent. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4902105271636.
