#2592: Maruchan Yokozuna Tonkotsu Ramen

#2592: Maruchan Yokozuna Tonkotsu Ramen - Japan - The Ramen Rater - Box From Japan -

Here’s one sent by Javier over at Box From Japan. At Box From Japan, you can receive boxes of instant ramen from Japan as well as different subscription boxes like Japanese candy! Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? What’s more, in the two years I’ve been reviewing these, I’ve not ever received one that I’d reviewed before! So what is this Yokosuna all about? Well, I could be wrong, but it looks like Yokozuna is an echelon attained by Japanese sumo wrestlers. The Yokozuna are the best of the best. Let’s check it out!

A free-dried ingredient block. These hydrate quite fast and usually contain vegetables.

Finished (click to enlarge). The noodles came out superbly with a good tooth and perfect gauge. The broth has a soy and oily thing going on which I really enjoyed. It is rich and full-bodied. The inclusion of meat from the freeze-dried block was very well done – especially since the quality made it very welcome. The vegetables went well and round out the bowl nicely. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4901990327930.

#2283: Nissin Raoh Pork Bone Soy Soup Noodle

This is another one sent by Colin from the east coast – thanks again! So pork bone broth is hugely popular in Japan and this sounds like a soy and pork variety to me. Let’s check out this premium variety!

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Unsure but probably contains pork. To prepare, add noodle block to 500ml boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. Add liquid sachet contents. Stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

The liquid sachet.

A very thick liquid with a pork and soy scent.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion, hard boiled egg and sauteed pork with some shichimi togarashi atop. The noodles are big and thick with a compassionate chewiness and excellent quantity. The broth was really good – good thickness and the flavor was like a soy and pork combo. This just worked right and rubbed me the right way. 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4902105900673.

#1982: Master Kong Assorted Pork Bone Noodle

Here’s one sent by Colin from Massachusetts – thanks! I used to work with a lady who couldn’t say Massachusetts. It seemed a little ridiculous to me, but she would stumble over the word repeatedly and it would sound like massive two shits. Anyways, this one seems interesting – why assorted pork bone? Are they from different kinds of pigs? Well, let’s give this one a try!

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Unknown whether this contains meat or not. As preparation instructions aren’t included, I’m going with 500ml water for 3 minutes (cooking) and adding in vegetable sachet during cooking, then sachet contents at the end and stirring.

The noodle block.

A dry soup base sachet.

A very light powder.

A paste sachet.

Has a pork scent.

A vegetables sachet.

Quite a nice quantity and selection.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added boiled pork, coriander and pepper flake. The noodles are nice – soft and comfortable on the chew. The broth has a nice creamy pork quality to it and a nice oiliness. The supplied veggies came out extremely well. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 6900873033218.

Here’s Master Kong’s Braised Beef big cup – this is excellent stuff!

Probably the happiest instant noodle TV commercial I’ve seen in a while!

#1122: Nagao Noodle Ramen Kamen Thasos Galle Pork Bone

This one was sent by Mr. Yamato of Yakantei in Japan! Thank you! First off – if someone has a better translation of what this particular instant noodle is called, please let me know? The original text is 長尾製麺 ラーメン仮面・タソガレトンコツ. This is quite unique in that the outer packaging is paper. Yes – paper! Let’s have a look at this artsy ramen!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge).

Inside is a kind of cardboard sleeve with the ingredients.

Lots of straight noodles.

A packet of liquid soup base.

Has a nice pork scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added hard boiled egg, ham and green onions. The noodles are interesting; they have a really nice chew yet a crumble at the same time. The break easily when lips pursed and also have an interesting flour taste when they break. The broth is a very nice pork broth – rich and hearty. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 4960051811009.

Some mellow moments cooking ramen in a Japanese restaurant.

#791: Acecook Super Big Ramen Tonkotsu Flavor Japanese Style Instant Noodle

Here’s one I got a while ago at Uwajimaya in Seattle. It’s big, Japanese and tonkotsu flavor – sounds much better than the last one I had!

Here’s the side panel stuff – click to enlarge.

The noodle block. Looks really nice, I think.

Only one seasoning packet, but it’s really big.

I put most of the packet in this little sake cup – it would not all fit.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some veggies, some chicken lunch meat, kizami shoga (pickled ginger), a hard-boiled egg marinated in Kikkoman soy sauce, some Ajishima Kimchi furikake, some Sushinori (seaweed) and finally a couple shakes of Tabasco Buffalo Style hot sauce. The noodles: not bad – a nice texture and quality to them. The broth however is way too salty for me – so much so I couldn’t handle it. I was really shocked at that but oh well. Bummed. 1.0 out of 5.0 – the noodles were good, at least. UPC bar code 074410396718 – get it here.

I bet this stuff is really really good!

Mr. Noodles and a meat tenderizer. This is bizarre.
