Here’s one that came in a Zenpop.jp box – use coupon code THERAMENRATER for a groovy discount!

Here’s what they had to say about this one – ‘It’s nice to balance ramen with some lighter noodles, such as those delicious Soba from Nissin. Soba (そば) are buckwheat noodles, and those prepared in this cup are combined with a Kanto-style soup made with two types of bonito stock, Honbonito and Soda Bonito. They feature a wide variety of ingredients such as tempura flakes, eggs, kamaboko, wakame seaweed, and green onions. Soba noodles have a special meaning in Japan when it comes to the new year. On New Year’s Eve, or Ōmisoka (大晦日), it is a custom for the Japanese to reflect on the past year and jump in the coming year, all while enjoying a bowl of hot soba noodles, called Toshikoshi Soba (年越し蕎麦), or year-crossing noodle. What better way to cross over a symbolic bridge than slurping up soba noodles!’

This post won’t be coming until deep in the heart of 2023, but at the moment it’s January 18th. It’s a Wednesday night, and the kids are finishing their dinner. Our new pet dog Pepper is finally asleep – she’s been really high strung today as we’re learning Labs are as puppies. I’m looking forward to reviewing tomorrow – after running her around a bunch and tiring her out. Let’s check this out.

Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).

The noodle block.

A dry soup base sachet.

A clear sachet of solid ingredients.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added egg, chashu, narutomaki, sesame seed, shichimi, spring onion, and mung bean sprouts. The aspect of buckwheat soba I generally dislike is the sponfiness of the affair. This one seemed slightly more study which I appreciated quite a bit. Also, the broth was quite good which had a more interesting bonito flavor with rich flavor. The included bits of egg and fish cake added much enjoyment as well. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4902105262849.
