Here’s what he has to say about this one – ‘”Chuukasoba Tomita” is one of Japan’s most famous ramen shops…if not its most famous! This special instant ramen from them has the porkiest soup we’ve ever tasted. Tomita was popularized outside of Japan in the ramen documentary “Ramenheads”. Their signature dish is a tsukemen (dipping ramen). They do serve ramen as well. But this instant ramen isn’t something you’ll find at their ramen shop – it was specially created! The soup is porky to the max, extra thick and extra rich. But the tangy shoyu (soy sauce) base provides balance and gives the soup that overall brown color. It wouldn’t be a Tomita ramen without shoyu somewhere. Medium-thick noodles work with the porky soup. Of course there has to be a slice of pork among toppings. You’ll also find little piles of negi (spring onions) menma (bamboo shoots).’

A wet sachet with a #2.
Another wet sachet without a number.
A sachet with veg and chashu.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added egg, chashu, mung bean sprout, shichimi, narutomaki, and spring onion. A nice gauge of noodle which hydrated well. The broth was alright; it definitely was heavy on pork flavor – I detected some yuzu-esque scent to it. I don’t know, but it didn’t make me go wow; seemed kind of monotone after a couple slurps. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. JAN barcode 4902881484985.
