Here’s what they had to say about this one – ‘For this new ramen box, we’ve gotten our hands on Toyo Suisan’s new collaboration: “Maruchan Ramen MAIKAGURA Truffle-Scented Chicken
broth soup (鶏白湯, Toripaitan)”. This cup ramen is supervised by “Ramen MAIKAGURA,” which won first place in the “Chicken Hakyu” category of the 22nd TRY Ramen Grand Prix 2021-2022.
Since its opening on February 26, 2018, MAIKAGURA is an extremely popular ramen restaurant in Tokyo. It offers up-and-coming “ramen” based on the concept of “a bowl of ramen that can only be created in Japan,” which emphasizes on the original aroma and texture of the ingredients. This instant ramen is a high quality collaboration with Toyo Suisan, where they perfectly kept the restaurant’s recipe for you to enjoy at home. It comes with both, the tasty chicken and delicious truffles, paired with a light broth.’
I had the fortune to dine at a restaurant now closed in Seattle which served Italian dishes but interpreted by a Malaysian Chef. It was truly art. = he made that food sing. I remember he brought out his truffles – a whole basket of them – he was really proud of them. Such a neat place – nothing better than a Chef showing you raw ingredients that are going to be part of a multi course dining experience. He used things like that – and durian – he gave us a tour also – he had meats hanging and curing like wild boar and other exotic meats. Just super rad. That’s what comes to mind when I hear truffle. Let’s give this stuff a try.
Maruchan Ramen Maikagura Kanshu Truffle Kaoru Toripaitan – Japan
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Contains chicken and pork. To prepare, fill to line with boiling water and cover for 3 minutes. Add in sachet. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).
The noodle block.
Loose seasoning from the cup.
A sachet from the lid.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added soft egg, sesame seed, shredded chicken, shichimi, spring onion, and mung bean sprout. Noodle at the outset was rather lackluster and spongy, a definite aspect this reviewer finds to be poor. The broth had a faint aroma of truffle, but flavorwise it was much akin to the US domestic Maruchan Ramen Noodle Soup Creamy Chicken flavor. While that’s my favorite that particular range, this one purporting itself to be a cut above. Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4901990371216.
