Here she be! A new flavor – Chicken Tortilla! Sounds like a tasty one – looking forward to reviewing it soon! Thanks!

#1146: Meet The Manufacturer: Asian Thai Foods 2pm Precooked Noodles Chicken Curry Delight

Nope – this is not a reference to the popular South Korean K-Pop group – it’s a reference to the time of day. 2pm is a common time for a quick bite to eat in the afternoon. Let’s have a look.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Contains chicken powder.

Here’s the precooked block – you can eat it straight or boiled.

Here’s the soup base powder.

A packet of chilli powder.

Chilli powder sitting atop the base powder.

Onion flavored oil.

Has a nice onion scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added grape tomatoes, hard boiled egg with Urashima Vegetable Furikake, coriander (cilantro), and chicken with Walla Walla sweet onion I sauteed in garlic salt and black pepper. The noodles have a slightly less crumbly texture than the other varieties and seem slightly thinner. The broth all but disappears as it’s only a scant 225ml – but it turns into a very nice sauce that makes everything so nice! A little spiciness and a very luxurious curry flavor run all through these noodles and I found it excellent. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 9504000021047.

#1001: Paldo ДОШИРАК (Dosirac) Beef Flavor

Well my friends, onward we march with the first post-1000 review! This is Dosirac with Cyrillic writing on it. I thought at first this is sold in Russia, but on the back there was a clue. I looked up the url mentioned – it turns out the .MN means Mongolia! Neato! So what’s Dosirac? It translates to ‘lunch box!’ I’ve had many of the versions that are sold in trays, but never have I seen a pack version. Let’s give this a try.

Here’s the back of the packaging (click image to enlarge)

A large noodle block.

The seasoning packet.

Salty, with some beef taste. Slightly spicy.

The vegetables packet.

A nice little assortment.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added rib eye beef, broccoli, sweet onion and green bell pepper. The noodles are plentiful and have a nice chewiness. The broth has a nice spiciness and good beef flavor. The veggies were pretty good. A decent spicy beef noodle soup. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 8809296887218

#930: Maruchan 35% Less Sodium Instant Lunch Beef Flavor Ramen Noodles With Vegetables

After this one, I think I have only four new ones to review! Egad! Hoping the mailman brings some new things to review soon! So here’s a cup of noodles for breakfast…

Here’s the back of the cardboard outer (click image to enlarge).

The iconic cup. I must say I dig on the font and the colors; very 70’s / early 80’s look and feel to it.

A scan of the lid (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block. If you notice, the noodles are bespeckled in a layer of powder – that being the seasoning. There are no packets here – everything is ready to go.

Here are some of the veggies I picked out of the cup.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Drained broth, added stir fry veggies, sweet onion, kizami shoga (pickled ginger), minced garlic, and an egg. Fried in a small skilled for a while and added a pinch of Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake and Dua Belibis chili sauce on top. Before this as usual I did the sampling. The noodles were good – nice texture and chew. The broth was lighter than usual, but had a nice beef flavor I enjoyed. The veggies hydrated well. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 041789001727 – get it here.

Absolutely awesome – why don’t any noodle companies give away stuff with their noodles in the USA? I call for an instant noodle rennaisance – marketing blitz and social hipness explosion!

Looks fancy and tasty.

#924: Maruchan 35% Less Sodium Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Strange how lately Walmart has become a treasure trove for Maruchan products – found six I hadn’t reviewed there recently! Anyways, here’s the chicken lower sodium pack.

The back of the package (click to enlarge). I really like how they have a little aside about the versatility of instant noodles here – not something you see all the time.

The noodle block.

Usually when I think of this color, I think of hot and spicy. Thought it interesting they should choose it for lower sodium.

Took a taste of the seasoning – quite nice. Has a slight sweetness at first then a good herbed chicken taste.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added stir fry veggies, baked chicken with Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning and some Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are a little different; not in any sort of bad way though – they’re really good, just seem a little different as far as the outside. The broth is good – a very nice real chicken flavor, although seems like it needs a little salt. I would imagine 35% more salt. I think though if I weren’t used to eating salt in such abundance that it would be enjoyable if I were on a restrictive diet where salt was a concern. This is good stuff – seems like they’ve gotten the lower sodium pretty darn on the money. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 041789004117 – get it here.

This commercial is awesome – mariachi with noodles are cool!

#912: Maruchan Instant Lunch Shrimp Flavor Ramen Noodles With Vegetables

Here’s another one of Maruchan’s Instant Lunches – who would think that I wouldn’t have reviewed it until now… Weird! But here’s the shrimp instant cup!

Here are the ingredients and directions from the cardboard outer (click to enlarge).

The majestic iconic cup!

The lid.

The noodle block.

Here are the veggies and some shrimp!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added shrimp that were marinated in Crystal hot sauce, hard boiled egg with some Krazy Mixed Up Salt and a sprinkle of Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. Okay so the noodles: very light and thin. Buttery texture. The broth is nice – very calming and light with a nice shrimp taste I enjoyed. The bits and pieces of dehydrated shrimp and veggies were good too and re-hydrated nicely. I’m impressed with this one; really didn’t expect it to be this good! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars – a very good cup of noodles! UPC bar code 041789001253 – get it here.

Tipping Point: Is There Really A Danger From Cup Noodles?

I’ve seen a few articles as of late about people burning themselves because they tip over cups of instant noodles. This is ridiculous. These articles start citing that the design of these cup is flawed. Also, it is mentioned that many of the victims are children! I think anyone saying “here little tyke, be careful, it’s hot” ought to have their heads examined. . If you don’t know how to correctly operate and consume a cup noodle, I will herein inform you as to how.

The first rule of the cup noodle is follow the directions. Most people don’t read directions when making a cup noodle, but most of them have them. Nowhere does it say to fill it with water then put it in the microwave for a few minutes; in fact, there are little icons warning against doing exactly that. Microwaving cup noodles can cause super-heating of the contents as well as can release chemicals from the foam. Note, the cups are made from foam, not Styrofoam which is a trademarked material.

Most cup noodles direct you to heat water in a separate container in the microwave and then pour it in and close the lid. Is there a difference in the taste? Sure! Would you microwave spaghetti noodles and expect them to taste good? Of course not; you’d do what it says on the packaging.

Now for the tipping issue. I’ve had a lot of instant noodles in my day. Bowls, bags, cups, big bowls and king cups. Have I ever tipped one over? No. Have I ever knocked one over? Yes. Something tipping over on its own and being knocked over by me are two distinctly different things altogether. It isn’t a design flaw. I had a stage when I was in my teem years when I would knock over everything that had liquid in it on myself. At McDonald’s I knocked a large Coke on myself. At a pizza joint, I knocked a banana malt all over my shorts. Was it lame? Yes. Was it my fault? Sure was. Was it the fault of the design of the beverage receptacle? Not really. How could it be?

The flaw, especially when it comes to kids getting burned, is the parent letting them get burned. Come on, parent – don’t be a lazy hooplehead!

I am willing to take all responsibility for my own actions and as of this moment, openly  apologize to myself for all accidents involving cup noodles that get knocked or ‘tipped’ over by me in times previous and future. I’ve never heard anyone complain about those long-neck beer bottles being elbowed – granted they don’t contain hot liquid, but they’re easily knocked over.

In closing, read the directions and while the noodles steep, let them sit in a safe place. Watch yourself and be careful! Contents may be hot.

#440: Maruchan Instant Lunch Hot & Spicy Beef Flavor Ramen Noodles With Vegetables

So here’s some Instant Lunch. Haven’t done one of these in a while and I’m sure that there’s a ton of them I need to do still. So hot & spicy beef – let’s give ‘er a try.

I must admit I REALLY like the labeling going on here. The font and the explosions that say hot and spicy are just plain awesome – very old school!

No packets – the stuff is all infused into the noodles and around them. Look at the corn wow!

Click image to enlarge. Here we are. Looks good to me – and tastes pretty good too. Not a ton of spiciness but definitely some kicking. I liked it except that the large corn kernels didn’t re-hydrate very well. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here.

#354: Maruchan Instant Lunch Chicken Flavor 35% Less Sodium Ramen Noodles With Vegetables

Here’s another new one brought from California by my lovely lady. Thanks, Kit! On with the review!

Okay first off… ‘this product contains 660mg of sodium versus 1170mg for our regular product.’ What I’d like to know is why it says 735mb of sodium on the cardboard package them. I just looked at Nissin’s Hearty Chicken Cup Noodle and it has like 40mg more than this one. Weird.

Looks like a nice amount of veggies and seasoning…

Click image to enlarge. The finished product. So I think this stuff could use a little salt. It had a bit of a buttery flavor to it actually; kind of strange. Not bad though. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.

I found this guy kind of annoying…

On the other hand, I found this to be interesting. Do they really have this globalization cam thing at McDonald’s? Sounds fascinating…

#353: Nissin Top Ramen Chili Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

So here’s one my lady got for me – chili flavor Top Ramen! So cool – dueling Chili flavor products back to back! Let’s rock!

A single packet. How they can tell this from a different packet is beyond me. Amazing.

Vivid reddish powder. Has a nice volume too.

Click image to enlarge. I added a couple hard boiled eggs, a sliced up piece of turkey breast lunch meat some Lindberg-Snider Red Baron BBQ seasoning and some Amanfopong Hot Pepper powder. So it was spicy and tasty. I also detected something I really really liked – a hint of cumin. This bound it all together nicely. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. Get it here. UPC bar code 070662010174.

Awesome Nissin noodle commercial from Japan

I thought this was funny – see, I call my wife Kit and she calls me Pup…

#320: Maruchan Hot & Spicy Picante Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

So what a shocker – we were strolling down the aisle of a big box grocery store and saw this sitting there. I like how they incorporated the Mexican flag into the packaging too! While trying to find a commercial for the last review (#319: Maruchan Oriental Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup) I found a TON of homemade videos for Maruchan Instant Lunch as well as official ones. It was insanity! test

One packet.

Powdery powder.

Click image to enlarge. Added one uno huevo. Wow now this is something different and actually I’m quite pleased. The noodles are great and the egg compliments well. It’s the amazing flavored broth – tons of turmeric and cumin I think are added to give it a really nice flavor; a almost like enchiladas or something. Really tasty – 4.0 out of 5.0 stars! Find it here.
