#4486: Marutai Tategata Miyazaki Karamen - Japan

Here’s one that came in a Zenpop.jp box – use coupon code THERAMENRATER for a groovy discount!

Here’s what they had to say about this one – ‘Straight from Miyazaki (宮崎): a vertical-type regional Karamen (辛麺), popular for its light and spicy taste. Karamen is a very hot ramen dish
born in Miyazaki Prefecture. Its hot soup makes you sweat a lot, but you cannot stop slurping it until the very last drop of soup is gone. For such a spicy soup, it’s best to have light and thin noodles with good crispness. The soy sauce based soup with 3 kinds of chili peppers is colorful, with plenty of aromas, spiciness, and umami from chicken, pork, and bonito. It’s topped with minced meat, scrambled eggs, chili peppers, and green
onions.’

Sounds great and I’m a fan of this brand’s straight noodle offerings. Let’s give this a try.

Loose bits and seasoning from the cup.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added mung bean sprouts, egg, narutomaki, chashu, spring onion, sesame seed, and shichimi. Noodles are very thin and hydrated nicely in the 2.5 minutes directed. The broth is a kind of earthy and spicy flavored thing- salty as well. Good? Bad? More interesting and unique. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4902702010157.
