Here’s an interesting one from Japan found in a Zenpop box – check out zenpop.jp and use the coupon code RAMENRATER for a discount!

Here’s what they had to say about it – “Ready for some seaweed? Sanyo Foods cup noodles teamed up to bring their flavors to new levels! “Sanyo Foods x Riken Aojiso Dressing Style Wakame Soba” is a new product released on August 9th, and the 4th collaboration with Riken they are doing.

Aojiso, or perilla leaf, is a very popular flavor in Japan, and Riken is known for having developed one of the best dressing with that nice sour and herby flavor that just makes you want to eat more salad. Together with soba, what are you expecting? Well, a mouthful, of course.

Wakame always delivers the flavors of the sea. Based on a salty soy sauce, this refreshing soba soup comes with a flavor that reproduces plum and green perilla dressing by combining the flavors of dried bonito, dried sardines, and mackerel. Together with kamaboko (蒲鉾, a type of cured surimi) and green onions, it’s a combination that’s hard to beat.

These wakame soba have a refreshing flavor that is perfect to finish off summer with their well-balanced combination and fragrant aromas.”

Hmm… I am unsure if I’m ready for some seaweed. But it does sound compelling. Let’s give it a go.

The noodle block.

Loose bits and seasoning from the cup.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added shrimp, Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp, sesame seed, spring onion. Noodles were actually quite nice – buckwheat soba with a slightly doughy tooth. The broth was a slightly sweet and very seaweed hit with seaweed and wakame throughout, augmented by kamaboko. It wasn’t bad – better tham I expected. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4901734043409.
