#10: Mike’s Mighty Good Craft Ramen Vegetarian Vegetable Ramen Soup

Mike's Mighty Good Craft Ramen Vegetarian Vegetable Ramen Soup

Noodles came out quite nicely – good chew and gauge. The broth was kind of a vegetable and Western hot and sour affair with tart notes, sweet ones and a generally kind, giving disposition. The amount of vegetables was admirable and it all came together in a very good way. Original review

#9: Maruchan Creamy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Maruchan Creamy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

The noodles for this particular variety are just out of this world perfect. They have a decent and very standard gauge and suck up just enough broth. The broth has a very easy going creamy chicken taste, creaminess thanks to non-dairy creamer. Definitely my all-time favorite of the US Maruchan pillow pack range. Original review

#8: Nongshim Shin Black Spicy Pot-Au-Feu Flavor

Nongshim Shin Black Spicy Pot-Au-Feu Flavor

Made in Rancho Cucamonga, California, this is the extra special version of their flagship Shin Ramyun product. Extra broth sachet and great vegetables. Original review

#7: Nongshim Kimchi Flavor Noodle Soup

Nongshim Kimchi Flavor Noodle Soup

First off, this is a Vegan product. What’s awesome is that it’s just got this bright and tangy broth going on that really impresses me. Lots of pickled cabbage in there and great noodles to boot. Original review

#6: Mike’s Mighty Good Craft Ramen Beef Pho Flavor Rice Noodle Soup

Mike's Mighty Good Craft Ramen Beef Pho Flavor Rice Noodle Soup

The rice noodles are awesome. They smelled great as they cooked. The broth ended up a happy, thick mess of wonderfulness. I’ve had my share of bad instant pho. Happy to say this isn’t one of them.  Original review

#5: Sapporo Ichiban Japanese Style Noodles Chow Mein

Sapporo Ichiban Japanese Style Noodles Chow Mein

I’ve loved this one for years and it’s actually been on the annual top ten once or twice at the beginning. A broth free noodle with a very tasty seasoning. Garnish includes seaweed. Original review

#4: Nissin Cup Noodle Seafood Ramen Noodle Soup

Nissin Cup Noodle Seafood Ramen Noodle Soup

The noodles are your standard Cup Noodle fare. They are flat and thin gauged. Soft tooth and decent quantity. The nice thing about this one is the inclusions and the broth. The broth is a tasty and milky seafood one – salty and full of nice seafood flavor without being fishy. Clam and other seafood are abundant in decent size as well as scrambled egg as well as cabbage. Original review

#3: Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu Ramen Artificially Flavored Tonkotsu White Chicken Broth

Sapporo Ichiban Tonkotsu Ramen Artificially Flavored Tonkotsu White Chicken Broth

A creamy broth with very hearty noodles. This is one of the first new things from this company in a long time – was worth the wait. Original review

#2 – Maruchan Bowl Taste Of Asia Tom Yum Ramen Noodle Soup

Maruchan Bowl Taste Of Asia Tom Yum Ramen Noodle Soup

To be honest, I’m about as surprised by this one as you might be! But make no mistake – this US domestic variety is truly amazing. The tom yum flavor is just superb along with a huge quantity of noodles. You’ll fill up and be extremely happy as you do so. Original review

#1: Nissin Cup Noodles Very Veggie Spicy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Nissin Cup Noodles Very Veggie Spicy Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

The noodles are thin and have a soft tooth. The flavor is a chicken with a lot of cumin and a bit of spiciness – not too much to fend off anyone I know, but enough to say ‘hi – I’m a little spicy.’ Just like the other three varieties in this range (chicken, beef and soy sauce), this one gets a lot of added flavor in the broth from the myriad vegetables included. Corn, bell pepper, and onion are omnipresent and just so welcome here. Of the quartet, this is my favorite, but each one deserves this spot – something newn innovative and delicious. Original review

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

恭喜发财 and Happy Lunar New Year to all! I had a look at my lists I hadn’t updated in a while and saw it was in January of 2014 last I did a top ten Chinese list. Why so long? Well, I like to have done quite a few reviews in a year when it comes to country lists for that specific country. If I’d done only two and there weren’t any big changes, I’ll kind of let it go until the next year. This one seemed ripe and ready for a new version. Of the almost 150 reviews I’ve done of Chinese instant noodles, these are my favorites. I should mention that if you are an instant noodle in mainland China and interested in having me review your products, please contact me to set up a review series. With that, let’s have a look at The Ramen Rater’s top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition.

#10: Sichuan Baijia Broad Noodle Chilli Oil Flavor

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

So The noodles are very broad and hydrated well. They have a nice chewiness to them. The flavor is excellent – a nice oily spiciness, a slight sweetness and a kind of puckery taste as well. The vegetable hydrated very well. Original review here

#9: Master Kong Tomato Sauce Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles are about double the width of a standard instant noodle and flat. Very floppy but very nice in this application. The broth is indeed tomato flavored, and has a nice tomato taste at that. The included vegetables hydrated perfectly – all the way down to the peas. Original review here

#8: Baixiang Noodles Sauerkraut Flavor Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

You might be thinking ‘sauerkraut?’ But actually, pickled cabbage as well as other vegetables are quite popular throughout Asia. The noodles are a little wide and flat. The are really very good and there’s a lot of them. The broth has a rich flavor – the sauerkraut’s bitterness is there, but also a kind of artificial meat flavor that works well. Also, there’s a little spiciness to it which was great! Original review here

#7: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Beef Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles are perfect – plump and plentiful. The broth is wonderful – perfect oiliness and heat and beef flavor. The heat tastes like it’s coming from Sichuan peppers. The vegetables in the powder sachet hydrated very well. The supplied seaweed is perfect. Original review here

#6: Wugudaochang Sour Soup & Minced Meat Flavor Chef’s Grain Naked Oat Noodles

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles have a standard instant gauge. They have just the right backbone to them – good texture and chew. The broth is extremely good – a tart beef flavor with good oiliness to it. The carrot and beef are excellent! Like a gourmet vegetable beef noodle. Original review here

#5: Sichuan Baijia Chongqing Noodles Spicy Hot Flavor

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles are thin and flat with a medium width. They really work well here. The broth is a very spicy beef with a Sichuan pepper hit among others. There are sesame seeds throughout and the bits of vegetables in there were great. Original review here

#4: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Chicken Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles came out very nicely – lots of them and of good texture and chew. The broth has a great spiciness – still worthy of the top ten spicy list. Sichuan pepper for sure. Nice color and oiliness in the broth as well. Original review here

#3: Sichuan Baijia Chongqing Noodles Burning Dry Noodles

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

I mean wow! I wasn’t sure of what to expect here, but this is really great! The noodles are extremely plentiful and really soft and floppy. This is perfect as the seasonings and liquids combine with them very well. The flavor is like an almost beefy and tasty lasagna but with Sichuan pepper and other spices going on. Moreover, the more you eat, the spicier it gets – heat, upon heat, upon heat! The pain! I really expected this to probably be really salty and have a strong vinegar taste but I was completely mistaken. I love this. Original review here

#2: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Pork Instant Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles came out nice and plump and there’s a good amount of them. The broth has a fiery spiciness and great flavor to it. I really have to say the red chillies add a very nice hit of spice and vegetable elements. Original review here

#1: Wugudaochang Tomato Beef Brisket Flavor Purple Potato Noodle

The Ramen Rater's Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2017 Edition

The noodles, made from purple potatoes have a nice texture to them – a little sturdier than your garden variety instant and they were very nice to chew. The broth is a thick beef and tomato affair, with a very luxuriant and rich texture to it – almost creamy in a way. The inclusion of large pieces of tomato and real beef brisket in there was admirable and very enjoyable. Premium bowl of noodles. Original review here

The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014 Edition

2014_4_21_tta_001

Well folks, it’s that time again. Since the last list, I’ve reviewed another 335 varieties – almost one a day This list reflects the ones I’ve reviewed in the last year as well as those reviewed before that – 1,365 varieties in all. It seems to get tougher each time – so many good ones! Here’s this year’s list – the best of the best. With that, I present to you The Ramen Rater’s top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014 Edition.

#10: MAMA Instant Noodles Yentafo Tom Yum Mohfai Flavour – Thailand

Yentafo (aka yong tau foo) has a spicy and sweet flavor. The sweetness is derived from hoisin sauce and the spiciness from chillies. Seasoned brown noodles are complimented by these unique flavors as well an a nice bit of heartiness from oil. Original review here

#9: Nongshim Soon Veggie Noodle Soup – South Korea

This is the first instant noodle on the top ten to be marketed towards vegetarians. What surprised me about it was the broth had such a full flavor to it; deep and satisfying. The noodles are slightly larger in gauge than your run of the mill instant, which is common of South Korean ‘ramyun.’ Magnificent stuff! Original review here

#8: Prima Taste Singapore Chilli Crab La Mian – Singapore

Prima Taste’s third appearance in the top ten. Chilli Crab is considered the signature dish of Singapore. This is a brothless variety – excellent, chewy noodles and a sweet sauce that has a sweet, spicy and buttery taste. If you like crab, this is one to try. Original review here

#7: Mamee Chef Curry Laksa Flavour  – Malaysia

This one was a pleasant surprise. Touting Mamee’s ‘Mi Tarik’ technology to approximate the same texture as hand pulled noodles, they chewiness and gauge are really quite special. The broth has a beautiful hit of cumin that adds a richness I found delectable. Garnish included small bits of tofu puff! Original review here

#6: Paldo Cheese Noodle – South Korea

These noodles – wow. I think the best addition to South Korean ramyun has to be cheese. Well, not only is cheese included here but it’s got just the perfect notes of spiciness and strong, rich flavor. The little guy with the sign that says cheese noodle rocks as well. Original review here

#5: Samyang Foods Maesaengyitangmyun Baked Noodle – South Korea

Last year was the 50th anniversary of ramyun in South Korea, pioneered by Samyang Foods. Samyang decided to try making something new – SBN, a baked noodle. What’s really neat here is that the noodles smell like bread! The broth is a lot like gomtang, a traditional beef soup. To shake it up, maesangyi is added – kind of like seaweed spun into a cotton-like consistency. The finished product is quite delectable; almost like a chowder! Original review here

#4: Sapporo Ichiban Otafuku Okonomi Sauce Yakisoba – Japan

I’ve always really loved yakisoba and this is the best I’ve found in an instant form yet. Otofuku is a brand of yakisoba sauce that can be found almost anywhere, and it’s inclusion in this one is just perfection. What’s more, the noodles are garnished with green laver (flaked seaweed) and a little mayonnaise packet! Original review here

#3: Prima Taste Singapore Curry La Mian – Singapore

Premium chewy noodles are given the opportunity to swim in some of the best curry broth I’ve ever had. The real difference here is that there are two sachets – curry paste and a ‘premix’ which is primarily coconut powder. Sheer delight! Original Review / Special 2014 Re-Review

#2: Prima Taste Singapore Laksa La Mian – Singapore

Prima Taste’s La Mian noodles are just pure wonderful, and their paste and coconut powder sachets are brimming with rich flavor. This one is a little spicy and has strong shrimp flavor. Little beads of chilli oil dance around the top of the broth like miniature rubies. Spectacular! Original review / Special 2014 Re-Review

#1: MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle – Malaysia

The ultimate! The noodles are just the right texture and gauge – not too wide or too narrow with a chewiness that is perfection. The broth is amazing – extremely spicy (hit #7 on the 2013 Spiciest Instant Noodles list), and features a strong curry flavor and a hearty finish. I am truly impressed with this one and would consider it to be the one I would love to eat every day. Bravo! Original review / Special 2014 Re-Review
