#500: Mexi-Ramen Soupless Ramen Shallot Teriyaki Flavor

So my in-laws sent me this unique pack from California. My wife’s dad’s co-worker was eating it and so he got one from him and her mom sent it my way! Thank you! I’ve never heard of Mexi-Ramen before this, nor have I seen it anywhere before. I think my first reaction is confusion: Mexi+Teriyaki+Made In Malaysia+Sold in USA = I’m not sure. So not I shall open the package and attempt to relate what that equation’s solution is… And so… Bring on REVIEW NUMBER FIVE HUNDRED!!! ...see full post

IN THE NEWS

Some mention of The Ramen Rater has appeared in print, radio and televised media from time to time. This is where you’ll find it. Well, a lot of it. It’s kind of strange to say, but I get a lot of press about what I do, especially in Southeast Asia – strange to say but definitely humbling. ...see full post

#339: Payless Xtra Big Chilimansi Pancit Canton

So I’ve been waiting for a good time to try this stuff and today seemed the right time. My 5 year old stuck his headf in the ramen box and picked it out for me. I have so many and its so hard to pick that I often ask family to pick the one I’m going to have – and usually after they pick once or twice I agree to the one the pick the third time. ...see full post

#106: GreeNoodle Tom Yum Flavor

So today here’s review #98 – the weird GreeNoodle… These noodles contain some kind of weird ingredient called moroheiya. “Moroheiya is a super vegetable that is more nutritious than spinach, carrots, or borccoli in most aspects” is written on the back and cite as a quote by the ‘Japanese Ministry.’ although which Ministry that would be is unclear to me. ...see full post

MEASURING

So one thing I’ve found is that sometimes it isn’t exactly logical what is printed on the back of noodle packaging so maybe I can help. For example, I’ve had packs say 400cc of water followed by saying that 400cc of water is 1 1/2 cups of water, but another one says its about 2 cups of water. 400cc of water is 1.7 cups.  Closer to 1 1/2 cups I guess. I look at it as being a kind of how flavorful do you want it kind of thing. Then again, you can always use this calculator to convert cubic centimeters [cc’s] into cups. I like going this route… ...see full post

#93: Payless Pancit Canton Xtra Big Original Flavor

So here’s something new. I’ve been avoiding it a bit as I wasn’t sure if I really would like it. But I remembered I’m the ramenrater, fearing no ramen and all that crap so here it is. The big one. My review’s preview is simple (think of this said with an extremely strong hwhuh sound on each word)  Hwow – this stuff hwas hwonderful and I hwould eat is daily. ...see full post

#78: Nissin Demae Ramen Seafood Flavor Instant Noodle

Seeing things like this make me want to break out into a musical number like Peter does on Family Guy. Nothing more lovely than a huge mountain of instant noodles. I really enjoy seeing such things. Today, I got an extra ingredient for dinner, but I’m also going to toss it in the instant noodles too so we’ll see if it works. ...see full post

Homemade Multi-Cultural Noodles

I’m a big fan of instant noodles – such a big fan that I started www.ramenrater.com to review different varieties. Of all things ramen, I’ve come up with this homemade noodle recipe, taking ingredients from all over the far east and orient. ...see full post

#16: Samyang Kalgug-Su (Spicy)

Samyang: Kalgug-Su (Spicy)
Stars: *** 1/2
Notes: A very good package of noodles. This one took quite a bit of looking around to find out what brand/type it is. So the noodles are very much like Indomie’s special – but they are VERY wide – wide as egg noodles! Was a great bowl of soup with the
only exception being that it had some dehydrated mushrooms in it that were
extremely foul. I thought since the name Kalgug sounded like an overture to regurgitation, that word must refer to the mushrooms. ...see full post

More about the old

So first a bit about one of my favorites and one of my nemeses. First, Indomie Jumbo BBQ Chicken instant noodles. This stuff is a perfect example of well thought out noodles, in that they have a few packets in there for more preparation fun, and there’s a lot of noodles. These are of the five star ilk, but I have but one complaint about them: unless you eat them quickly, after you cook ’em, they dry out and get frumpy and obstinate on the fork. ...see full post
