Today is June 17th, 2025 as I type this, and I’m rather irritated. I spend a lot of time editing images for this blog; it’s what I spend the bulk of my time doing as part of what I do here. Don’t get me wrong – I really like working in Photoshop and having things work well. But yesterday I had something happen that really annoyed me. They made a new tool called generative fill a while back and I use it a lot. Say I scan the back of a package or take a picture of a pack of noodles like the above one. There’s always gonna be some glare from my lighting. I’ve got two lights and I take three pictures – one with both on, then one with each light on. This way, I can use a tool to just paint over the original with the glare-free per side, however this isn’t an exact science. Generative fill is where I can then use a little rubber band box and tell it remove tool, wait a few seconds, and 9/10 times, it’s perfect. Well, now they’re charging for that. It’s crummy – tough when I get a new bill for something such as this. Anyways, it’s got me a bit grumpy. Thought I’d share; I’ll live, but sheesh.UPDATE – I ended up getting a year of irefly so all is well.
This variety I’m reviewing today was when I ran out of those tokens. Regardless, this is a Chinese style variety for sale in the United States. It’s purple with a jar on it – which should let us know, it’s pickled cabbage. Not exactly sauerkraut but not exactly not. It’s nice stuff – let’s give it a go!
Kang Shi Fu Artificial Beef Flavor With Pickled Vegetables – United States

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add noodle and seasoning to 550ml water and cook 3 minutes. Add in pickled ingredients. Finally, stir and enjoy!

An instant noodle block.

A sachet of soup base powder seasoning.

A sachet of vegetables.

A sachet of pickled cabbage.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added chashu, sesame seed, scallion, and chili crisp. Noodles are a little sturdier than I remember – a nice tough. Broth is oily with a nice flavor – savory and the added bump of pickled cabbage is realy quite a tangy addition. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6937962107079.
