#3594: Kimchan Bukkake Mentai Cream Udon – Japan

So here’s what the folks at Japan Crate had to say about this variety – “Different from most udon served in a warm broth, this bowl is splashed with a flavorful mentai sauce (fully ripe roe of a species of cod fish used in many Japanese dishes) that’s perfect for spring.”

Yup – bukkake means splash. I know what you’re thinking though, you dirty sod. Let’s give it a try!

Detail from the bottom (click to enlarge). Unsure whether it contains meat – check for yourself. To prepare, soak noodles for 2 minutes in boiling water. Drain. Add sauce and sprinkle with garnish sachet contents. Finally, enjoy!

Added chashu, narutomaki, kamaboko, kizami nori, shichimi togarashi, chili oil, Salad Cosmo organic mung bean sprouts, and spring onion, Udon came out nicely as this style of noodle usually does. The flavor was a slightly smoky and mentai hit to it – some might say a little fishy, but it’s a lot more than that. Good flavor. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4904760919151.
