#2763: Sapporo Ichiban Nagasaki Chinatown Champon Chanpon zenpop zenpopjp zednpop.jp

This is another one from Zenpop.jp. Zenpop is pretty cool – they have different boxes you can get – Japanese stationery, snacks, ramen… It’s quite a variety. They’re pretty cheap, too. Here’s what they had to say about this variety:

‘Champon features thick, smooth, chewy noodles and creamy pork based soup. The satisfying dish with a pile of vegetables was born in Nagasaki, being influenced by Chinese cuisine. You can add extra cabbage, shrimp, onion and so ion to make it much more like the authentic chanpon of Nagasaki Chinatown.’

Alright – let’s hit it.

Here’s another one from Zenpop.JP. Zenpop offers a lot of diverse Japanese boxes – lots of assorted things like ramen and also stationary among other things. Here’s what they have to say about this variety –

‘Hokkaido has lots of regional ramen varieties in its vast land, including shrimp miso ramen. The flavor of shrimp is strong but mingles well with the taste of miso. If you’re a shrimp person, you’ll be slurping down the soup after all the noodles are gone! This one is perfect for winter.’

Alrighty then – time for some winter slurping! Let’s give it a try.

‘Chewy noodles in miso broth. The rich flavor of miso matches well with the ginger which adds the soup a pleasant, refreshing taste. Good news is that it’s relatively low in calories! Contains little pieces of green onion, corn, and red pepper.’

#2715: Myojo Hyobanya Shio Yakisoba

#2215: Myojo Hyobanya Shio Yakisoba - Japan - zenpop zenpop.jp www.zenpop.jp

Today we have a Zenpop.JP variety – so what’s Zenpop? They’re a subscription service for all things Japanese! Definitely, check them out. By the way, use coupon code RAMENRATER to get $2 off! Here’s what they had to say about this variety:

This is also low-salt but you would never notice that (which is same for other noodles in this pack too!) It has a flavor of savory beef and vegetable. Nice and simple! Enjoy this popular Japanese noodle dish anytime.

This Myojo variety is a yakisoba – here’s a little about it from Wikipedia –

Yakisoba (焼きそば[jakʲiꜜsoba]), literally “fried buckwheat,” is a Japanese noodle stir-fry dish. Although soba means buckwheat, yakisoba noodles are actually made from wheat flour, and are typically flavored with a condiment similar to oyster sauce. The dish first appeared in food stalls in Japan during the early 20th century.[1]

Yakisoba is most familiarly served on a plate either as a main dish or a side dish. Another popular way to prepare and serve yakisoba in Japan is to pile the noodles into a bun sliced down the middle in the style of a hot dog, and garnish the top with mayonnaise and shreds of pickled ginger. Called yakisoba-pan (pan meaning bread) it is commonly available at local festivals or konbini (convenience stores).

Sometimes, Japanese white Udon is used as a replacement of Chinese style Soba and called Yakiudon. This variation was started in Kitakyushu or Kokura in Fukuoka Prefecture.

In Okinawa, Yakisoba is popular with Okinawans and U.S. service members stationed on the island alike. After the 1945 hostilities ended on Okinawa, the US military command supplied American food products to the malnourished residents. The preferred Okinawan Yakisoba was prepared from spaghetti, spam, ketchup, any available vegetable (usually canned), and mayonnaise for frying. Mess halls and other on-base eateries often serve yakisoba. Chopped hotdogs are a popular addition to yakisoba made on Okinawa, in addition to other meats such as ham, chicken, and pork.

Sounds great to me – let’s take a look!

Here’s another instant ramen bowl from Zenpop. Zenpop offers boxes of ramen among other things from Japan – pretty good stuff and definitely worth checking out! Here’s what they have to say about this variety –

Miso always brings peace to Japanese people’s mind, how about to yours? Twi kinds of miso paste are blended in this ‘assari‘ (light) type broth. The soup is simple but is nice and not too rich. Brown seaweed, corn and green onion are added as garnish.

It is time for miso ramen! Let’s hit it up!

The broth has a pretty strong taste but a thinness to it. I think one of the two miso variants used in this is red miso. I’m not particularly keen on red miso. The corn and veg included were nice. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4904511005027.
