A guy named Mengzhe Z. from China sent me this – thank you again! I think the first time I saw the export version of this one it was called beef and sauerkraut. Cabbage is definitely popular in Asia – goes well with yakisoba, pickled in soup and fermented in ramyun. Let’s give this a look!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts and stew beef. Noodles are soft – and very plentiful from the tight knit noodle block. They hydrated extremely well. The broth has a nice beefiness as well as a tartness from the pickled cabbage. The included vegetables hydrated well and the pickled cabbage goes very well. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. #1616: Unif-100 Instant Noodles Artificial Spicy Beef Flavor (New Package)

Last month at the Chinese New Year celebration I went to hosted by the Seattle Singaporeans Meetup Group, I was talking to Clement, one of the event organizers. Og course, the topic of conversation was instant noodles (I will happily admit I rarely talk about anything else) and he had mentioned that there are these Chinese sausages that are good in beef instant noodles. I’d been wanting to give that a try, and today was the day! Let’s check it out!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add everything to a bowl and add in 500ml boiling water. Cover and let steep 3 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added Kam Yen Jan Chinese Style Sausage, sweet onion, spring onion, red pepper flakes and mung bean sprouts. The noodles are so-so – not the most backbone, but have a good quantity. I think a little chewier would have been nice. The broth was pretty good – nice beef flavor but a little light on the spicy. I think it would’ve been better with 400cc water. The veggies hydrated well. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. The Chinese sausages went well – they had a nice texture and a sweet flavor. I keep looking at this one in my noodle hamper and then curse at myself for not getting shallots… I mean, they’re cheap and taste really good – why didn’t I get shallots? Well, I kept forgetting to. But fear not shallot lovers! I now have shallots. Beef and shallot lovers, your day has arrived. Let’s delve into the insides of this Unif-100 Artificial Shallot Beef flavor pack from Unif of China!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add noodle block and sachet contents to a bowl. Add in 500ml boiling water and cover for 3 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

They have just a hint of sponginess. The broth is nice and rich with some spicy beef notes. The vegetables hydrated very well. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6920077415221.

#1327: Unif-100 Instant Noodles Artificial Tart Beef Flavor

Here’s one sent to me by Roger S. – thanks! I haven’t had one of these Unif-100’s in a while. I had the Cayenne Beef a little while back, but this is one of the ones that are distributed here in the US quite widely. Chances are if you have an Asian grocery local to you, they’ll have some of the Unif line of instants. Now, while beef is a very common flavor where instant noodles are concerned, tart beef is something I’ve not encountered before. Let’s see what’s inside and how it tastes.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, put everything in a bowl and add 500ml boiling water. Cover for 3 minutes, stir and serve. What I do is I boil the water in a pot that has a lid, take the pot off, add everything and cover for 3 minutes and stir; seems easier to me.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added leeks, thin sliced sukiyaki beef, Fresno chilli pepper, and Nappa cabbage. The noodles . The broth is definitely tart beef flavor. I wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but after a couple tastes I was kind of into it. It has a bit of spiciness as well which went well. The broth is a little oily from the paste, also something that was welcome here. The vegetable garnish was really nice and worked well. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 6920077415627.

The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten Chinese Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014

China: the birthplace of the noodle. Billions of serving of instant noodles are consumed there every year – more than any other country in the world!  I thought today being Chinese New Year (more widely known as Lunar New Year), it would be an opportune time to release a list of my favorite instant noodles that are made in China. These are the most memorable and finest varieties I have enjoyed from China of the 1,290+ I’ve reviewed over the years.

You may be sensing a theme here – beef! What I find most engaging about Chinese beef varieties is that they have this little bit of sweetness that sets them apart from other region’s varieties. This one’s no different and quite enjoyable. Original review here

#1244: Uni-President Unif-100 Pickled Cayenne Flavor Beef Ramen

Here’s one that Joe B. and Sarah B. sent me from Nottingham, UK – thanks! I was going to review this yesterday, but it’s been a little tricky; you see, there’s no English on this really at all. I’ve been asking my friend Bobby Y. on Facebook questions about it and got the title and directions from him – thanks – saved me on this one! Let’s check it out!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Not sure if there’s meat or not. To prepare, I was stumped. Bobby Y. said there weren’t any directions on the package! I ran into this last time I did one of these and used 400ml water for a few minutes. I think this time I’ll try 400ml and then add 100ml more and taste it then. It looks rather soupy on the packaging, and 600ml water seems to be pretty standard in Chinese variants like this. UPDATE – just walked to the local Asian market to get some leeks and green onions. Strolled down the noodle aisle and saw the export versions of Unif-100. Felt it out and it’s a round noodle block too. Calls for 500ml water, so that’s what I’m going with – for 4 minutes.

Click image to enlarge. I thought an egg would be nice here. Well, it was! A little nip of spiciness to the broth was nice. The veggies were ample and inflated well. The noodles were great and the egg bound it all up nice. I liked it! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.
