Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Nongshim HooRooRook Premium Korean Noodle Soup

It’s funny how much my wife and I enjoy saying ‘HooRooRook!’ I wonder what it means though… Well, after some research, it came to my attention that it is the sound of slurping noodles.

Here’s the back of the package. Notice it’s made in Seoul – so this is Seoul food! Click image to enlarge.

The noodle block. Thin, delicate and light.

The powder base.

It’s really light and powdery.

The veggie flakes.

I really like the little thin long shreds of seaweed – those make me happy.

The soup paste.

It says to add this after cooking and mix it in. So I did.

Finished (click image to enlarge). I added some Fresno peppers, green bell pepper, onion, snap peas and a coupAlso, I found that there were not only the long, thin noodles but very short slightly wider ones – interesting to see dual gauge noodles in a single block. le florets of broccoli. I really liked the broth – it was light and mellow – not to say I all of a sudden don’t like spicy and deep broth, it’s just nice for a change of pace. In the commercial and from other sources, I see that they’re saying it has some spiciness to it but it is very light. The noodles are good too – they remind me slightly of the Nongshim Hearty Beef rice noodles but a much thinner gauge. Thing is though that these aren’t rice noodles at all. What’s also nice is that the whole pack has a gram of fat, 8g protein and slightly lower sodium than others. Bottom line here is that it’s a nice, light and friendly soup that would make most people who only think instant noodles are unhealthy, cheap nasty things change their tune. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. #751: Meet The Manufacturer: Nongshim Shin Ramyun Black Premium Onion Flavor (Cup)

Check it out – the new Shin Black cup! Onion flavor! I’ve had one of these chilling on my shelf for a while now – been wanting to review it and now that it’s out on the market, I can! Let’s check it out!

Something to note: Nongshim is a big sponsor of Expo 2012 in Yeosu, Korea. They have their own pavilion showing off this product! Here’s a link to their blog to check it out!

Here’s the lid and the instructions.

I have a visual aid device that will help me reading fine print. It was very helpful for getting images off the sides of the cup – it’s dark red on black – colors that my eyes don’t do too well with! Click image to enlarge.

The noodle block.

Here’s the spicy stuff!

Definitely some nice spiciness here!

A packet of onionny goodness!

I took a little pinch of this and tasted. Wow – this is definitely one for those who enjoy onions – it is seriously onionny – seriously!

The vegetables. These were loose in the cup. One thing I’ve found annoying is that usually the veggies in instant noodles are tiny and light. These are decent sized chunks of mushrooms and other veggies! This looks decent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Okay so let’s get right to it. The noodles are pretty good – more of them than I had expected from a cup. Thin like one would expect. The broth: this is some of the best liquid I have ever tasted. It is seething with onion! It has a sweet and spicy taste to it. Spot on! The veggies: okay, see that on top in the middle? That’s a slice of garlic. Underneath are some mushrooms. The garlic tastes like a piece of garlic sliced thin; it isn’t mushy – it’s crunchy! The mushrooms are quite good too!  If you are a fan of spicy Korean noodles and really like onions a lot, this is definitely for you. I am a person who falls into the affirmative on both of these qualities. This is unique and excellent – 5.0 out of 5.0 stars – a must try! UPC bar code 031146014408 .

Here’s another…

…and yet another.

Donation Of Samples From Nongshim America & Nongshim Korea!

I got two shipments today – one from Nongshim America, which I visited last week (there’ll be a lot of stuff all about the visit, the plant tour and the people very soon!). Here’s the first one from Nongshim America!

Hey look at that! Shin Ramyun Black in a big cup! Plus, it’s onion flavor! Also, notic in the box there’s a couple packs of the new Jinjja Jinjja! Also what’s this? Soba? I’m extremely interested in trying these out – never knew they made this! Thanks go to Ray Adams and all the nice folks at Nongshim America! Can’t wait to try these out!

Yesterday, the mailman knocked on our door and had me sign for a box from Korea – samples of a new product called Jinjja Jinjja (which translates to Really Really (Spicy Spicy). I had the opportunity to try it during my tour at Nongshim America last week and boy are they good! I’ll be doing a full in-depth review of them shortly.

It felt like the box just had noodles inside but I was happily surprised! They were kind enough to send some posters and cardboard advertising pieces too!

Awesome! Another reusable grocery bag! Really like these.

They also sent a box with promotional items pertaining to Hooroorook and their new spokesperson, K-Pop star IU.

Last but not least, an apron and triangular hair-holding thing (my wife was kind enough to take the picture and tie it on my head!)! Can’t wait to do a review of these noodles!!! Thanks to Daehyun Song and everyone at Nongshim Korea for sending this along!
