This one was sent by Anders and Ji-Min from South Korea! Thanks again! So here’s Paldo’s new extreme foray into the uber spicy class of instant ramyun. I really enjoy seeing these – especially how neat the packaging looks.

I looked everywhere to find the characters for this one to search by. It seems either this one is just too new or I don’t know, but I’m not finding really anything about this one – a few poics here and there. Hopefully I’ll dig up some more info. Anyways, yeah – looks like a burner for today. Let’s give it a look!

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Unsure whether it contains meat. to prepare, add noodle block to 600ml boiling water and cook 3 minutes 30 seconds. Drain. Add in 40ml water and contents of liquid sachet. Return to heat and stir fry for 30 second. Add garnish sachet. Finally, stir and enjoy!

Finished (click to enlarge). I will say right off the bat that these noodles are very good. They’re thick and you could throw almost anything at them and they’d be great. Indeed the sauce is extremely spicy and strong. However, I have had much stronger. Nonetheless I would put these in the ultra spicy category for sure. The seaweed and sesame seeds are a nice touch, but they kind of get lost with all the heat. The unfortunate thing with this one is that it really didn’t smack of any curry I’ve had; maybe a little, but I had to dig deep for it. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8809296883760.

Paldo Bulnak Pan Noodle Irresistable Sweet Spicy Ramen (Pack of 4)

#1523: Paldo Jjamppong Seafood Noodle King Bowl

Here’s a new Jjamppong King Bowl from Paldo. The king bowl is yet another instant noodle form factor. There are cups, king cups, bowls and king bowls. I think the main different between cups and bowls are really the portability factor. I think a king cup and a king bowl hold the same amount of liquid though; I’ll have to compare them some day. But I digress. This is Jjamppong – here’s a little from Wikipedia about Jjamppong who are unclear about what it is:

Jjamppong (Korean: 짬뽕, Chinese name: 炒碼麵), a spicy noodle soup flavoured with onions and chili oil. A form of jjamppong is also the local Chinese speciality in the Japanese port city of Nagasaki (see Chanpon). The noodles are made from wheat flour.

So like Jjajangmen (noodles with black bean sauce), this is Chinese-Korean fusion. This bowl has some interesting directions which are a little tough to figure out but I’ll go over that further along. Let’s have a look at this Paldo Jjamppong king bowl!

Here is some detail from the text on the top and bottom of the plastic outer wraps (click image to enlarge).

Here’s the lid (click image to enlarge). To prepare, open lid halfway and take out sachets. Add in soup base and seafood vegetable mix and pour boiling water up to fill line (400ml). Cover and steep for 4 minutes. Stir well and add in finishing touch sachet. Enjoy! So, none of the sachets say finishing touch. If you do look at the ingredients list from the last picture, you’ll see the ingredients of the finishing touch sachet – and they’re almost all oil, so it’s the oil sachet.

This block contains dehydrated vegetables and seafood. When water is added, it reveals its bounty!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sliced large green onion, mung bean sprouts, shrimp, mussel, octopus and clam. The noodles are nice thick ramyun; wide and chewy. The broth is just awesome – it has a very strong spiciness and a very good seafood flavor, along with a slight sweetness. The broth has a slight thickness which gives it a really great character. Best ramyun I’ve had in a while – 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 648436100866.

#1347: Paldo Bulnak Bokkummyun Spicy Fried Octopus Ramyun

Today I’m trying something really interesting. This is Paldo’s new spicy octopus ramyun! I thought I couldn’t make this stuff without adding some octopus, but I’d never cooked it before and was a little reserved and slightly nervous. Octopus? Hey, why not! I went to the Korean grocery and picked some up. It was a bit of a surprise how many different kinds of packaged octopus there are. I settled on frozen baby octopus. Let’s see how it turns out!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Not sure if it contains seafood or not. To prepare, add noodles and vegetables sachet to 500ml boiling water and cook for 3 and a half minutes. Drain. stir in the remaining sauce sachet, return to heat for 30 seconds. Enjoy!

Wow – this stuff is thick. It kind of looks like barbecue sauce, but it sure doesn’t smell like it! It has a really spicy scent – and I mean spicy!

Here’s my cooked octopus! I did a bit of research and found that octopus is cooked in an interesting way. You take the whole thing and a pot of boiling water and dip it in for 3 seconds, take it out and repeat a few times. This ‘tempers’ the flesh – each dip causes the tentacles to curl a bit more, and I think the idea is that by giving is a little time for it to get used to the heat rather than just dropping it in, it will end up more tender. After the dipping, just drop it in, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and let it sit in the water for another 20 minutes. It’s got a kind of rubbery consistency, more so than squid. Interesting stuff!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added green onion, sweet onion and baby octopus. The noodles have a very nice gauge and chew; it’s ramyun and so very hearty. The sauce is hot. Uber hot! This is definitely not for the faint of heart and really means it! The veggies were very good and complimented the dish. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8809296882183.

New Octopus Noodles From Paldo!

Hey look – a couple of little boxes came in the mail today – wonder what’s inside?

Whoa! Octopus noodles? Okay, they’re not made from octopus, but it certainly sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Looks like I’m going to have to buy some octopus to use with these – should be interesting – thanks!

#1314: Paldo Korean Traditional Beef Gomtangmen

Korean beef soup is usually something that isn’t spicy; a departure from what people usually see in most ramyun varieties. Gomtang translates to ‘bear soup,’ but there’s no bear in there! It’s been – boiled for a long time. The ‘men’ at the end of gomtangmen is where the noodles come in. Men, myun, myeon and myon are all suffixes that mean noodles in Korean. I’ve had Paldo’s Gomtang variety in the gold packaging – that stuff is quite good. I’m very curious to find out how this one is. Let’s have a look.

The back of the packaging (click image to enlarge). I can’t read Korean hangul, so I can’t let you know whether it looks like this pack contains meat or not. To prepare, boil 550ml water. Add the noodles and cook for 3 minutes. Add contents of the vegetable and liquid sachets, stir and enjoy.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added green onion and sukiyaki beef (after tasting, I added the beef and boiled with the noodles and broth). The noodles are nice and sturdy after three minutes of cooking and have a great texture and chewiness. A couple minutes later, they’ve gorged themselves a bit more on the broth and changed quite a bit – I like that. The broth has a very nice and rich beef flavor and it’s tasty, non-spicy and warm. This would be really great after hours out in the cold. The vegetables hydrated very well. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 8809296882237.

Re-Review: Paldo Namja Ramyun (Men’s Ramyun)

I have fallen ill with some kind of head cold it seems and I thought something spicy would be good. My lovely wife Kit was kind enough make me some noodles for breakfast – she’s so good to me! Thought I’d have these – they’re available in the US now, but this is a Re-Review of the pack that is sold in Korea. The version sold in the US will be being reviewed soon! #910: Paldo Namja Ramyun King Cup

Here’s a new one from Paldo not yet available in the USA – Namja cup! Namja translates to Man’s or Guy’s – gender-specific noodles – that’s something new! I think would like to know about the ladies’ ramyun and what that would be… Anyways, let’s give this new one from Paldo a gander.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added kimchi, processed cheese, sweet onion and some Urashima Sesame & Salt furikake. The noodles are pretty good – what you’d expect in a king cup from Paldo. The broth is very good – it has a nicely concocted meat flavor for a second and then a serious wave of heat! I’m enjoying it right now and it is really quite hot. The oil packet is a real plus in this one as it gives the broth a nice extra heartiness. The little bits and pieces of meat and kamaboko and veggies were decent – especially the meat – liked that a lot. A very nice bowl of noodles – 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Paldo King Cup Kimchi Pot Stew Instant Noodle

Hey rad – a big cup of kimchi noodles! I’m a big fan of kimchi these days and hoping this is just what the doctor ordered today!

I’m sure Korean folks who see this will say big deal, especially since these exist! But recently we got the big jar of kimchi! It takes up a lot of our fridge – and it’s worth it!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some kimchi and some roast beef with a touch of Krazy Mixed Up Salt. The noodles are of that nice soft and buttery type – I must say that in the varieties so far, it sure seems like Paldo varies the types of noodles it puts in its products quite a bit. The broth is great – salty, spicy and has that nice flavor of kimchi. The veggies are great too – re-hydrated very well. This is a great bowl of noodles! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. #826: Meet The Manufacturer: Paldo Namja Ramyun (Men’s Ramyun)

Here’s a new one from Paldo – Namja. Namja translates to “man” or “guy” – I think they’re saying this is very hot and spicy. I wonder if there will be a product that is made for women as well? Well, let’s see if I’m man enough for this bowl of noodles!

Finished (click image to enlarge). I took some fresh onion and a little roast beef and a bit of garlic and sauteed in a pan for a few and added on top with a dash of Krazy Mixed Up Salt. Also added a slice of processed cheese. The noodles herein are chewy – and nicely so. The broth is the real star here. It has a very strong spicy punch to it and a nice cascade of garlic taste that is very enjoyable. The vegetables rehydrate very nicely and are enjoyable. This isn’t you regular red broth – it’s definitely going for the ‘gourmet’ palate – and it does that very well. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars – unique and tasty! UPC bar code 8809296771018 – get it here.

Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Paldo Chicken Flavor Korean Noodle

Usually when asked ‘what was your first noodle product,’ the answer I get from a company is chicken flavored instant noodles. Well, chicken flavor instant noodles are these and they look like a nice big bag of noodles! Been awhile – last time I had this is was review #88!

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added a scrambled egg, a couple pieces of oven baked chicken and some Krazy Mixed Up Salt on top. The noodles are plentiful and have a much firmer disposition than any other chicken flavor instant I’ve ever known of. The noodles are a wider gauge than any other chicken instant as well. The broth has a very strong chicken flavor. The vegetables aren’t bad and add a nice little extra flavor. Decent! 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 648436100163 – get it here.
