Well, here it is – the spiciest one as well as the one I’m most curious about – tonkotsu. I’m hoping for a rich, creamy and savory base with a ruthless beatdown of heat. Let’s give it a whirl.

Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add in everything but the smaller spice sachet and water to fill line. Microwave at 1000W for 4 minutes and let sit an additional minute. Finally, add in the spicy sachet, stir, and enjoy!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added sesame seed and scallion. The noodle is just right – good chewiness and gauge from an air dried. The broth was a real problem here and I am severely disappointed. While it delivers a lot of heat that spicy lovers will enjoy, the flavor is so far removed from tonkotsu – not creamy, not salty and savory. It’s tangy and a little acidic which is so not tonkotsu.
