#2562: Binh Tay Mi Hai Cua Artificial Crab Flavored Instant Noodles - Vietnam - The Ramen Rater - Vietnamese

These came by way of Kimmy N. of Connecticut, USA! Thanks again! It’s rare these days that a new Vietnamese variety crosses my desk – always welcome of course! I know there’s quite a few that I’m not getting which bums me out. Definitely would love to try more of them. I’ve tried a ton of them in the past, but going forward I’d like to do a lot more of these reviews.

Crab is something I’ve liked for a while, although there’s a specific part of the crab I haven’t quite understood yet. While in Malaysia, our hosts took us to a floating seafood restaurant. Fresh steamed crab, mallets, the whole 9 yards.

I was advised to try the crab roe – the crab eggs that can be scooped out of the shell in a particular area. How could I say no; I’m all about trying new things. This was the taste of the sea; deep, strong and just not at all to my liking. I asked people about whether they’d tried it before. Asian people I asked said ‘oh yeah – Asians love this taste.’

I feel that I need to try more of this and understand why. I love Spaghettios, pizza and cheeseburgers and have tried to shed the cursed Western palate and have had a great time trying to do this, but a couple tastes really have eluded me – crab roe and sea urchin. Time will tell. Let’s give this one sent by a reader a try!

A seasoned oil.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added crab stick, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, coriander, fried onion and chilli flake. I really liked this one. The noodle hydrate well in the 3 minutes of time ad have a soft tooth and a nice gauge. There’s a decent amount of them as well. The broth has a nice buttery sweet crabby kind of deal to it. I found that the oil sachet had just enough to give the broth a good body – but not overly oily. I see why my readers like this one! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8934566000674.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts and coriander. The rice noodles came out of the microwave slightly underdone, but that was easy to look past as by the time I sat down to eat this, they were very good. Light chew, thin gauge. The broth was very, very good – a nice oiliness and crab taste with lots of crab in there and vegetable. Excellent! 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 851683004393.

Re-Review: Tat Hui Mi Hai Cua 2 Crab Flavour Oriental Style Instant Noodles

I remember the first time I saw this one – it looks so exotic! So fascinating! So ‘what is it?’ The tiny crabs shown on the package were enticing. They reminded me of the ones I’d find as a kid on the beach in Anacortes – you’d flip over a rock and watch them scurry all over the place. I reviewed this one way back – before #500. Let’s give it another look as it’s been calling to me in the noodle aisle for another try.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Contains crustaceans. To prepare, boil 400ml water and add in everything. Cook 2-3 minutes (I opted to go 2.5 minutes) and enjoy.

The noodle block.

A dual sachet – dry soup base on the left and seasoned oil on the right.

A light powder.

Has a nice crabby and buttery scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added crab stick, mung bean sprouts, white onion  and coriander. The noodles are a nice gauge – just the touch bigger than standard domestics and a little chewier. The broth is the real show in this one – a buttery and crabby melding of comfort foodiness with a very good oiliness to it. It used to come with lots of chilli pepper though and really miss it. Love this stuff. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

#855: Vina Acecook Bestcook Instant Noodles Hot & Sour With Shrimp Flavour

Here’s a new one – sounds good to me – kind of funny having two instants that are ‘hot and sour’ flavored in a row…

The label around the side! Click to enlarge!

Hey – a new fork!

The noodle block.

Powder seasoning.

Slightly granular in nature.

There are two liquid packets.

Dark and thick.

This is a seasoned oil.

Looks interesting…

The veggie and seafood packet.

I must say – I’m quite impressed with the variety here.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some bell pepper, onion, broccoli, odeng (Korean fish cake), hard boiled egg with Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning and a few squirts of Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce. The noodles are thin, tasty and buttery – exceptional. The broth has a nice spicy, sour and tasty flavor. The vegetable/seafood mixture wasn’t bad; I would say it adds more to the broth than as something that stands out on its own. This was really quite good – 4.25 out of 5.0 stars – I’m impressed.  UPC bar code 8934563501167 .

#583: Vifon Phu Gia Mien Cua Crab Flavor Instant Bean Thread

Crab flavored bean thread from Vifon eh? Sure why not.

Back of the package (click image to enlarge)…

Three packets! This should be really good compared to the last four I’ve reviewed today!

Here’s everything in the bowl. Then I read like the Baijia sweet potato thread, this stuff steeps in the bowl so the bean thread went on top and then 400mL of boiling wawa.

Click image to enlarge. Here we are. I forgot it was bean thread. I had such high hopes. Well, if you like bean thread, you’ll be in gelatinous hard-to-eat noodle heaven. But if you’re like me, you’ll be disappointed. It’s like torture for me with this one because the broth and veggies are both extremely good – a very nice crab flavor and the little swirly bits floating around. But, the noodles MUST be palatable for any of these to work in my opinion and bean thread here is just too tough to swallow. 2.25 out of 5.0 stars.

Looks like an interesting documentary…

#427: Koka Mi Hai Cua 2 Crab Flavour Oriental Style Instant Noodles

Look at the angry little crabs! They’re saying ‘eat the noodle soup!’ I’m agreeing with them and thusly, I portend to make said soup and have it for breakfast.

So here’s something I’ve not seen before – I don’t know if this is how it usually comes or an error, but pretty neat either way. Three packets of chili! Heck yeah! I used one and now have two for later use! Score!

Some seasoned oil, a powdered seasoning and a packet’s worth of chili powder.

Click image to enlarge. Dropped two eggs in with the boiling noodles. This is an amazing dish and I loved it. The noodles are perfect for instant noodles. The broth was a little creamy-ish, crabby and seafoody and the chili powder gave it a nice little spark. The eggs tied it all together – oh man this was good stuff! Going 5.0 out of 5.0 stars – yes I really liked this one!
