Today we have a Zenpop.JP variety – so what’s Zenpop? They’re a subscription service for all things Japanese! Definitely, check them out. By the way, use coupon code RAMENRATER to get $2 off! Here’s what they had to say about this one – ‘Indulge yourself freely with this dish because these are non-fried noodles with whole grains. We LOVE how healthy the noodle tastes, and no wonder it is very popular. The tonkotsu soup has much depth of flavor matching perfectly with garlic. Toppings are chashu, wood ear mushrooms and scallions. Since it is the lightest one out of this month’s pack, when you crave ramen in the middle of the night, this is the best bet.’

#2627: Nissin Men Shokunin Sesame Miso Ramen

#2627: Nissin Men Shokunin Sesame Miso Ramen - Japan - The Ramen Rater - box from japan - instant noodles

Yet another from Javier over at Box From Japan. Box From Japan is a purveyor of monthly subscription boxes – ramen bowls and candy are at the forefront among other neat things – check ’em out! Today it’s a miso ramen – here’s a little something from Wikipedia –

Miso ramen is a relative newcomer, having reached national prominence around 1965. This uniquely Japanese ramen, which was developed in Hokkaido, features a broth that combines copious miso and is blended with oily chicken or fish broth – and sometimes with tonkotsu or lard – to create a thick, nutty, slightly sweet and very hearty soup. Miso ramen broth tends to have a robust, tangy flavor, so it stands up to a variety of flavorful toppings: spicy bean paste or tōbanjan (豆瓣醤), butter and corn, leeks, onions, bean sprouts, ground pork, cabbage, sesame seeds, white pepper, and chopped garlic are common. The noodles are typically thick, curly, and slightly chewy.

Alright – let’s delve into this one!

#2141: Nissin Men Shokunin Kaoruyasai Shio

Here’s another one from Javier over at www.BoxFromJapan.com, a subscription service. You can get a box of different Japanese instant noodles (or candy!) from Japan every month! Of all the subscription services for instant noodles I’ve seen thus far, this is the best. Today’s ramen looks really neat – here’s what Javier had to say about it:

Soup: The fragrance of the vegetables and condiments add to the flavors of the pork and chicken making a deep-flavored soup. The rich aroma of the pot herbs give the soup a taste that makes you want to drink it all up. Noodles: Medium-fine un-fried straight noodles that are almost as if they are raw. Ingredients: Cabbage, bok-choy, corn, carrot, and sesame seeds. The sesame seeds lend an ample aroma.

Let’s check it out!

Lots of interesting bits in here.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo muing bean sprouts, hard boiled egg, chashu pork and baked chicken. The noodles are very, very good – a really nice thinnish gauge with a strong backbone and just the nicest little bit of crumble to them – almost dainty. the broth is thick and rich shio with a lot of pork and chicken flavor throughout. The included cabbage, sesame seeds and other veggies are just perfect. This is a real wow. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4902105041840.

Meet The Manufacturer: #1998: Nissin Men Shokunin Shoyu

A sachet with vegetables and narutomaki.

Looks like a little narutomaki and some spring onion.

A sachet of seaweed.

Crispy and tasty stuff.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion, kizami shoga and chashu pork. The noodles are of a thinner gauge with a very strong backbone. Round and chewy, they exude that nice almost flour-y essence onto the palate. The broth is shoyu through and through – pleasant and smooth. The included vegetables were very satisfying – the seaweed a great touch and the nice big slice of narutomaki very good. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4902105041826.
