#2867: Nissin Cup Noodles Sesame Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup

Here’s one of the two new flavors of Nissin Foods’ domestic Cup Noodles range from the United States. I’m very curious about this one and the other (Teriyaki Chicken). Let’s crack it open and have a look around!

Loose bits from the cup.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion and sesame seeds. The noodles came out as expected – a little spongy with a standard gauge. The broth was really not working for me – sesame chicken wasn’t what I thought of, nor really could get to with imagination. Vegetables hydrated well, chicken bits were gristly. 0.0 out of 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 070662030257.

#2462: TTL Sesame Oil Chicken Noodle With Rice Wine

#2462: TTL Sesame Oil Chicken Noodle With Rice Wine - Taiwan - The Ramen Rater - boozy noodles

This is one I was sent by Daniel of Exotic Noods, a subscription service specializing in instant noodles. I should note that this was something special he put in after a recent trip to Taiwan – thanks again! So these are manufactured by Wei Lih for TTL. TTL stands for Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor. Tobacco and liquor – what?! Indeed, this is a boozy noodle. It contains rice wine, something apparently that goes well in noodles and cooking. Ireviewed the bowl version of this a few weeks back.

Just to clarify when I get the question, this one won’t be found at your local Asian grocery store here in the United States. Ever. Well, unless there’s a huge shift in things as far as what’s allowed entry into the United States. First, it’s got chicken in it – real chicken. It’s near impossible to get real chicken imported into the USA from Southeast Asia. Second, it wouldn’t surprise me if people here would have a tizzy fit that kids would buy 20 of these bowls and guzzle down the rice wine, the concerned parents would have a fit, and government inquiries would go crazy. It’s unfortunate as that’s just kind of how it works here.

Anyways, I think it’s time to open up this bowl. So let’s do it! Indeed, it’s time to try TTL noodles!

Pieces of chicken and vegetable in a liquid.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added roasted sesame seeds. The noodles are a very standard Taiwanese style – very thin and soft. A lot of them, too. The broth has a lot of things going on. First, the sesame taste is nice and gives it a good oiliness. It has a nice chicken taste as well. Next is the rice wine taste – my wife and son Andy both thought it odd, but I found it to be a very nice accompaniment. Then the retort pouch content. Indeed, a lot of chicken and of good size and quality. Moreover, the chicken has a little ginger hit to it to lighten things up. There’s also wolfberry, cabbage and some kind of crunchy melon. The pouch also has liquid which mingle in the soup. A lot in one bowl of noodles. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 4710199105306.

This is one I found at a 7-Eleven during my November 2016 trip to Taiwan. So these are manufactured by Wei Lih for TTL. TTL stands for Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor. Tobacco and liquor – what?! Indeed, this is a boozy noodle. It contains rice wine, something apparently that goes well in noodles and cooking. I’m unsure, but I think this may be the first variety I’ve reviewed with alcohol in it – could be wrong.

Re-Review: Ve Wong Instant Oriental Noodle Soup Artificial Sesame Chicken Flavor

Here’s another one that I haven’t had in an extremely long time. I remember I did like it, but that’s about all I remember. Just found it – review #101 – from August 8th, 2010! Yeah almost 6 years ago. I started reviewing instant noodle in 2002, but I only got to around the 60th review by June of 2010 – that’s when I really got back into it and started reviewing again. Let’s have a look!

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add package contents to 2 cups boiling water and cook 2-3 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

The dry soup base sachet.

Has a chicken scent.

The oil sachet.

Has a strong sesame oil scent.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added baked chicken and sesame seeds. The noodles seem a touch thinner than the standard instant and they have a light chew to them. The sesame and chicken flavor broth is very good – rich flavor and tasty. I see why I gave it high marks before – it’s simple yet very satisfying. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 4710008211365.

#448: Ve Wong Kung-Fu Artificial Sesame Chicken Flavor Instant Oriental Noodle Soup

Here we have some noodles from Vietnam. I got these during the trip to California in Pleasanton. I’m figuring these won’t be too bad –  in my time as a noodle reviewer, I must say that chicken flavor is pretty hard to screw up. So let’s see what we have here!

Powdered seasoning on the left, oil on the right. I figure it’s a very large sachet of sesame oil from the color and the fact that its sesame chicken flavor….

My thoughts on the oil were correct – sesame oil for sure. What I didn’t expect was the aroma of ginger from the chicken seasoning packet – that was very nice to experience for sure!

Added one fried egg. The noodles weren’t too bad but a little on the mushy side. The broth was great – a kind of chicken ginger sesame amalgam that was very enjoyable and the ebb was welcomed by all. Excellent! 3.75 out of 5.0 stars!
