#2723: No Brand Delicious Ramen

#2723: No Brand Delicious Ramen - South Korea

Here’s one I found at a Carrefour on my trip to Taiwan in November of 2017. Okay, so it says No Brand. I think that’s pretty evident – and it also says Delicious Ramen. That too is nondescript. I searched for the bar code and found nothing from the pack code and very little from the 5 pack code – basically that it is what it is. An eBay seller had it marked as ‘Korean Noodle Ramyun Rameon’ although that’s a little less than what it says in English on the pack already. My thought is that this might just be a store brand but who knows. Ah ha – I just looked it up by the phone number on the package – 080-023-8593 – and it comes up with a lot of Paldo stuff. Perhaps this is by Paldo. Anyways, I’m guessing it’s time to crack this open and look within.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, and processed cheese. The noodles are thick and chewy – much to my liking. Definitely ramyun noodles – unmistakeably so. The broth is a strong beef flavor with a hint of spiciness. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8809296883586.

Travels: Taiwan 2017 Day 6: Of Soup Dumplings And Steamy Seafood

Day 1 & 2 * Day 3 * Day 4 * Day 5 * Day 6 * Day 7

Another beautiful day in Taiwan – again, really great weather which I thoroughly enjoyed to no end. Started things off by having some Din Tai Fung.

So we went to the Din Tai Fung in the Taipei 101 Mall. Was a cloudy day and as you can see, the 101 was socked in pretty well. It’s kind of hard to understand how tall that building is until you stand next to it. Long story short, it’s really, really, really tall. So yeah we have a Din Tai Fung near where I live but I definitely think it pales in comparison to the one here in Taipei.

So my Kyle had some business to attend to as did I. Back to the hotel for a bit to chill. My business involved getting my suitcase all ready for the voyage home tomorrow. I’d been kind of packing and repacking the whole time so as to not have a lot of stuff to do at the last minute. Later, it was time for dinner with Kyle and his family. This is a clip of the elevator at the hotel – I really liked how it was very talkative. I forgot to get some audio outside the elevator where I was on the 6th floor – they had this exceedingly sleepy and mellow music playing all the time. It’s these little things I find so enjoyable about Taiwan.

I went to dinner with Kyle and his wife and son at a restaurant called Seafood Steampo. To be honest, he’d mentioned steamed seafood and I thought bland at first. This wasn’t bland. This was amazingly good and definitely there should be places like this everywhere.

After dinner, we hit Carrefour for a final search for a particular Korean variety I’d seen last trip and been looking for this trip. No dice. Can’t complain though – I did bring home 45 new varieties!

While I didn’t find the noodles, I found this and was able to bring home a couple packs for my wife who is the consummate Hello Kitty fan. Went back to the hotel and passed out.

#2514: Ogasawara Kirin Giraffe Shoyu Ramen

Here’s one I got at the Carrefour store in Taipei at the bottom of the Miramar Entertainment Park mall. It was on sale and definitely something I didn’t expect to see. There was a bunch of articles that came out about this variety a while back – it was popular many years ago and discontinued and then brought back to the delight of consumers. Noodles with a picture of a giraffe in a bow tie on the front? Yeah; this sounds neat. Let’s check out this revisited classic from Japan!

A light powder.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, egg and chashu pork. The noodles are great! I don’t know what they do to them, but they come out to nice and happy. The shoyu broth is very tasty. I expected much less from a single powder sachet, but this is really top notch. Impressed! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4982504862307.

#2435: Mum Ngon Lau Tom Chua Cay - Vietnam - The Ramen Rater - instant noodle vietnamese

Here’s another one I found during a November 2016 trip to Taiwan. I found this one at Carrefour in Taipei at the Miramar Entertainment Center. So one thing I found while there was that almost everything (unless you go to a Family Mart of a 7-Eleven) comes in a multi pack. I really didn’t want to get any of those – they take up extra space in luggage and a lot of the time they were really big multi packs. This one’s from Vietnam and looks to be a shrimp variant.

A seasoned oil.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added coriander, 31-40 count shrimp and Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts. The noodles are very soft. They’re definitely a gauge I’ve found in many Vietnamese varieties before and they work well. The broth has a kind of sour and spicy taste to it which I liked. It’s very thin which is logical for the region and tasted good to me. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.  EAN bar code 8936010680128.

I like how sesame seeds were present – even though only one sachet. Clean and lovely. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4982504863403.
