This one came by way of James from Lakeside, CA – thanks again! So I haven’t had Japchae in years – it’s a dry sauce vermicelli! Let’s try it out.
Ottogi Japchae Korean Style Instant Vermicelli – United States
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Contains oyster. To prepare, add in flakes sachet and fill to line with boiling water. Cover 3 minutes. Drain. Add in remaining sachets. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge). Note the drain spout.
Sweet potato vermicelli.
A sachet of liquid soup base.
Sesame oil.
A sachet of vegetables.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added sauteed chicken, scallion, and sesame seed. Noodle is soft with a chewiness as well. Flavor is sweet with a kind of smoky flavor – maybe more vegetable. I think there’s oyster sauce as well – the amount of veg and sesame oil was really great. A non-spicy alternative to the bulk of the Korean varieties for the US. 5.0 out of 4.0 stars.
