Hey now this looks interesting! Reminds me of the look of Hong Kong Cup Noodles or ones from Japan. So this is a new line from Nissin Mexico – Gourmet – hopefully the first of many to try. But what is gourmet? Dictionary.com had this to say –
a connoisseur of good food; a person with a discerning palate.
synonyms: gastronome, epicure, epicurean; connoisseur; informalfoodie
“a restaurant lauded by the most discriminating gourmets”
of a kind or standard suitable for a gourmet.
modifier noun: gourmet
“a gourmet meal”
Indeed, something being gourmet calibre is a tall order; truly something fancy, that’s for sure. So this one is different from everything else that Nissin Mexico sent. I used Google Translate and from ‘Caldo De Camaron’ I got ‘Shrimp Broth.’ It also mentions extra special shrimp in this one. I’m definitely excited to give it a try – let’s get started!

The noodle block.
Loose seasoning and garnish. So the shrimp that are included are of very good size – some of the biggest I’ve seen in an instant noodle product!
Finished (click to enlarge). I didn’t add anything. So the noodles came out great in the microwave – flat and thin with a nice light tooth. Indeed the broth was a show stopper – a great Mexican shrimp broth with a rich flavor and light heat. Moreover, it has a sweetness I’ve only seen in Southeast Asian variants previously. The shrimp that are included are among some of the largest I’ve seen in an instant noodle – not only did they hydrate perfectly but they’re of good quality as well. The other bits of garnish supplied such as cabbage, carrot and other things round everything out and give the cup an excellent premium feel. In conclusion, this was absolutely wonderful stuff and I am seriously impressed. Indeed an easy 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 070662021026.
On my wife’s side of the family, there’s a lot of Mexican and Panamanian heritage. Indeed, this is something I’ve been really lucky to experience; wonderful people and wow – the food is so good! So one thing I’d not known about was something her Grandfather Manuel shared with me – Mexican baked goods. Kind of in a way like donuts, but not donuts, they’re colorful and bready with a nice level of sweetness. Very tasty stuff!
