#1744: A-Sha Veggie Noodle Baby Grass Noodle With Toona Sauce

I pride myself on trying a new instant noodle every day, but it’s really special when I get to try a new one with a flavor I’ve never tried before. Behold noodle enthusiasts: Baby Grass. I’ve been wanting to try this since I’d heard of it. Here’s what A-Sha’s website has to say about it: “Our Baby Grass Noodles with Toona Sauce bring out a fresh, earthy flavor.  An extra source of fiber and a light healthy taste” The noodles have the Baby Grass flavor, but what is Toona Sauce? I think this snippet from Wikipedia has something to do with it – “T. sinensis (Chinese Toon) is used in Chinese traditional medicine and eaten as a vegetable in China (leaves and shoots).” Anyways, let’s have a look at this truly unique variety from Taiwan’s A-Sha!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodles for 4 minutes and drain. Add in sachet contents and stir. Enjoy!

The noodle block – has a hay-like scent to it.

The liquid base.

Has a kind of soy scent to it.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Couldn’t figure out what to pair with it so I had it straight. The noodles have a very good elasticity to them. They have a broad flat nature and a premium texture and chewiness. The flavor was a soy and something else – the Toona aspect I imagine. It had an earthiness which was subtle and light – just right. I very much liked this; it seemed like something that would pair well with the acidity of tomato and richness of some kind of beef with wine juxtaposition. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.EAN bar code 4715635852103.

The tomato variety of this line made it into the 2015 top ten list! Here’s a little about it.
