#2896: myramen Japanese Vegan Noodle & Soup Soy Sauce

I haven’t seen my friend Matthew Bellah in quite a while and he’s stopping by today to hang out. So he’s a writer (you can read some of his stuff at www.matthewbellah.com) and also an odd sort as far as food goes. He’s a vegetarian, however I’ve known him to enjoy bacon and Jack In The Box tacos regularly. Anyways, I thought this myramen would be a good one to let him try.

myramen is a range of Japanese instant ramen that are Vegan, HALAL, animal free, dairy free, shellfish free, fish free, alcohol free, and dairy free. Matt’s also an accomplished guitar player and is bringing an acoustic over to play for the kids – Miles in particular is really into music so I’m curious to see what he thinks of it. That’s a lot of bases covered. Let’s take a look at this one.

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge). Vegan and HALAL. To prepare, add noodle block to 2 cups boiling water and cook for 3~4 minutes. Take off heat and add sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

A soup base sachet.

A lot of powder.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added hard boiled egg, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion, sesame seeds, and nanami togarashi. The noodles are broad and flat with a nice tooth. The broth has an alright soy sauce flavor however I found it to be overly salty and slightly less so would have been preferable. 3.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4589468000013.

Here’s one that’s new to me – my ramen. my ramen is a range of Japanese instant ramen that are Vegan, HALAL, animal free, dairy free, shellfish free, fish free, alcohol free, and dairy free. That’s a lot of bases covered. I was very happy to say that the miso variety they produce is very good – and now we try the Salt variety. This is what is usually known as Shio ramen – here’s a little about Shio from Wikipedia –

Shio (“salt”) ramen is a pale, clear, yellowish broth made with plenty of salt and any combination of chicken, vegetables, fish, and seaweed. Occasionally pork bones are also used, but they are not boiled as long as they are for tonkotsu ramen, so the soup remains light and clear. Chāshū is sometimes swapped for lean chicken meatballs, and pickled plums and kamaboko (a slice of processed fish roll sometimes served as a frilly white circle with a pink or red spiral called narutomaki) are popular toppings as well. Noodle texture and thickness varies among shio ramen, but they are usually straight rather than curly.

Aright – let’s get to it!

A light powder.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion, hard boiled egg, chashu pork, narutomaki, togarashi nanami and sesame seeds. The noodles are really quite good – a sturdier than your garden variety chew and a neat gauge. The broth has a nice shio taste, but I found it saltier than any shio I’ve had to date which was disappointing. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 4589468000037.

A granular mixture.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, corn, spring onion and shichimi togarashi. The noodles were interesting – much wider than I expected – almost an udon gauge but just not quite. The broth at first made me think red miso, but the more I tasted it the more I liked it. This was honestly a hard one to put down and I’m really impressed. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4589468000020.

Unboxing Time: MYRAMEN Vegan/HALAL/Natural Japanese Ramen

I was recently contacted by a company asking if I’d like to try their noodles. I get a lot of noodles – but I always want to try them all! These noodles were supposed to be Vegan, HALAL certified, 100% natural and a few other tags like no MSG. Pretty impressive! Let’s take a look at this interesting variety.

Unboxing Time: MYRAMEN Vegan/HALAL/Natural Japanese Ramen – Japan

A lot of you have been asking me to do a vegetarian top ten list. I think the only way to do such a thing would be to do a Vegan top ten. This would be hard because not a lot of brands are emblazoned with a logo stating they’re Vegan. Well, these are. They come in classic Japanese ramen flavors – shoyu, miso and shio. You can find them here. Thanks! Looking forward to giving them a try!
