Okay so yeah this is a pretty standard variety from Japan, but what’s a little different is how I’ll be preparing it. I’ll be using my new Ultimate TKG – Tamago Kakae Gohan machine! It’s pretty fascinating and you can see it in action in the video below. Let’s get to it!

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, Ultimate TKG machined egg, barbeque pork, spring onion. Noodles are great – good gauge and chew. Works well with the sauce which is enough to coat everything. Spice mix is a tasty extra. As for the mayo I forgot I saw it soon as I got back to the kitchen – typical Japanese mayo which does wonders for yakisoba. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4901881404570.

Hey look at this! This came by way of Hobby Link Japan, a great site that has all sorts of amazing Japanese things including instant noodles! Thank you very much! This variety is a yakisoba with barbeque sauce and mayonnaise! I tell ya, this sounds really quite good to me! Here’s a little about it from Wikipedia –

Yakisoba (焼きそば[jakiꜜsoba]), literally “fried buckwheat,” is a Japanese noodle stir-fry dish. Although soba means buckwheat, yakisoba noodles are actually made from wheat flour, and are typically flavored with a condiment similar to oyster sauce. The dish first appeared in food stalls in Japan during the early 20th century.[1]

Yakisoba is most familiarly served on a plate either as a main dish or a side dish. Another popular way to prepare and serve yakisoba in Japan is to pile the noodles into a bun sliced down the middle in the style of a hot dog, and garnish the top with mayonnaise and shreds of pickled ginger. Called yakisoba-pan (pan meaning bread) it is commonly available at local festivals or konbini (convenience stores).

Sometimes, Japanese white Udon is used as a replacement of Chinese style Soba and called Yakiudon. This variation was started in Kitakyushu or Kokura in Fukuoka Prefecture.

In Okinawa, Yakisoba is popular with Okinawans and U.S. service members stationed on the island alike. After the 1945 hostilities ended on Okinawa, the US military command supplied American food products to the malnourished residents. The preferred Okinawan version was prepared from spaghetti, spam, ketchup, any available vegetable (usually canned), and mayonnaise for frying. Mess halls and other on-base eateries often serve yakisoba. Chopped hotdogs are a popular addition to yakisoba made on Okinawa, in addition to other meats such as ham, chicken, and pork.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion, shichimi togarashi, chashu pork and Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts. The noodles are great and there’s enough for a couple people. The flavor is a nice barbeque sauce taste. The mayonnaise gives it a good lick of greasiness which moves things about easier. Supplied garnish of cabbage and meat was spot on. Had a hell of a day today. Tried my bus card but it didn’t beep (figured the reader was at fault) so hopped the bus. Well, the fare cops had me get off the bus and checked out my card and it was screwed up. The fare cop said don’t worry just hop back on and get a new one at the bus station. Thinking ‘hey that went well ,” a different fare cop pulls me off the bus further down the line! Ugh. Long story short, I eventually got to the bus sttion and got a new card that won’t work for 24-48 hours… But I got to and from work and now I’m home – and hungry. This sounded especially good.

It’s so strange that the soybean paste flavor bowl looks exactly the same… How do they know which is which?

I used a toothpick to start opening the covering of this one – wanted it intact for my album. Well, I accidentally poked a hole in the bowl so instead of having a wet desk, I decided to just transplant it.

Click image to enlarge. Hey look! I added two eggs! The noodles were a tad spongy but let me tell you, this was a really good bowl of noodles. The broth was amazing – soy and spicy and veggies everywhere. By spicy also I mean I got a piece of some kind of painful pepper here and there – was like Christmas! Fun stuff. I recommend it! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. Find it here.
