#1670: Tropicana Slim Less Fat Noodles Grilled Chicken

So I get this email asking me my thoughts on a particular instant noodle from Indonesia from this guy named Seth. I’ve tried another variety, but not this one. There’s a little dispute at his house whether it’s good or not and he wanted me to review it and get my opinion on it. So he sent me some, all the way from Indonesia. The package had some bumps along the way (mainly because I made a typo in my address) but it did get here, and so here I am, about to review this variety for the health conscious. It’s an interesting concept – low fat noodles and all. Grilled chicken does sound good as well – but let’s let the noodles speak for themselves. Let’s check out Tropicana Slim Grilled Chicken!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. to prepare, add noodles to 500ml boiling water and cook for 6 minutes. Drain well. Add in sachet contents and combine thoroughly. Enjoy!

The noodle block of one of the packs. Got a little banged up along the way but the one from another pack was a little better.

A dual sachet – seasoning powder on the left and chilli powder on the right.

The chilli powder atop the seasoning powder.

Another dual sachet, this time liquid. Seasoned oil on the left and sweet soy sauce on the right.

The oil and sauce mingle together.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added baked chicken with Lindberg-Snider Porterhouse & Roast seasoning, mint, krupuk aci and Dua Belibis chilli sauce. The noodles have a very comfort food feel – they have a light chew and are broad in nature. The flavor is interesting; it tastes like chicken with a little smoky flavor and a little sweetness. It has a slightly oily feel which was nice as well. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 74992020161.

A Special Donation From Indonesia

I got an email from a guy names Seth from Indonesia recently asking if he could send me some noodles that he has been having a difference of opinion on at his house. He likes them and others aren’t so sure, and he wanted my opinion. You got it! So I gave him my address and he expedited a package out – only one problem – I mistyped my address! Luckily, the person who got it hadn’t eaten the noodles and when DHL came to recover the package and redeliver had no problem doing so. So, after a crazy journey, the noodles are here!

They even got a once-over by the Department of Agriculture!

So here they are, Tropicana Slim Grilled Chicken flavor. You’ll be seeing this review soon! Thanks again to Seth for his kindness and hope my review will help!

#1418: Ottogi Ppushu Ppushu Noodle Snack Grilled Chicken Flavor

Sweet – another noodle snack! I think we’re pretty close to an annual noodle snack top ten list soon – just trying to figure out a good time to release it… Halloween perhaps? Superbowl time? If you have an idea, shoot me a comment below! Anyways, here’s another one of Ottogi’s Ppushu Ppushu line. This is the first one I’ve seen that’s chicken flavored that I can remember from them. Let”s have a look!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, smash the noodles within the bag. Open bag and take out seasoning sachet. Sprinkle sachet contents into bag and re-close. Shake to distribute flavoring powder. Eat!

The noodle block.

Seasoning powder sachet.

A very light powder.

Finished (click image to enlarge). The noodles are a smaller gauge than Korean ramyun, and very light and crunchy. The flavoring is a little mystifying; it doesn’t make me think of chicken. It has a salty element, and an acidic element which is a little strange. Then a slightly bitter chemical flavor I didn’t like. For a snack, I’m giving this one 1.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 645175560050.

Yep – they make commercials for these noodles with KPop stars! here’s one for Ottogi Ppushu Ppushu.

Re-Review: Indomie Curly Noodles With Grilled Chicken Flavour (Mie Keriting Rasa Ayam Panggang)

I’m going to go out on a limb here. I would say that if I were held down and demanded to answer the question “what is your favorite instant noodle of all time” that I would probably say it was this one. I would also say the Special Fried Curly Noodle that tops the Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list; they’re both equally amazing and awesome. What I can’t believe is that I haven’t had it since review #51! That’s ANCIENT! I used to eat this one all the time.

Here’s the sticker the distributor puts on (click to enlarge).

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge).

Here’s the noodle block – notice the special curliness.

Dehydrated veggies on the left, seasoning powder on the right.

Neat looking veggies.

The seasoning powder.

Hey look – more seasoning powder and chili powder – huh?

So if you look at the directions on the pack, you’ll notice below there’s a mention of soup. With this stuff, you make the noodles like regular Mi Goreng but there’s also a soup you add at the end.

Seasoned oil.

Tasty tasty!

Here’s a littler family portrait of all the seasonings together.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added sweet onion, stir fry veggies, turkey breast, fried egg and Dua Belibis chili sauce. The noodles are great – flat and broader than your standard Indomie noodles. Yes – they’re curly as well! The flavor is sweet and spicy with a little chick flavor. The broth adds another facet as the noodles aren’t dry but have a nice small amount of broth. Excellent – pure wonderful! 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 089686040159 – find it here.
