#1799: Thai Smile Spring Onion Rice Noodle Soup Bowl

Another one my lovely wife found for me at BigLOTS. This one’s made in Thailand for the US market it seems. Spring onion is an interesting thing; it’s also known as green onion and also as scallions. Another one like that is coriander, which in the USA is known as cilantro – at least uin it’s fresh form. In a seasoning jar, it’s known here as coriander. Weird. anyways, let’s check out this bowl!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add on sachet contents to the bowl. Fill to first line with boiling water and cover for 3 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

Upon removing the cardboard outer wrap, you’re greeted by a plastic bowl with a paper lid.

The rice noodles in the bowl.

The soup base sachet.

Has a sweet garlic kind of scent.

An oil sachet.

Rice bran oil and shallots flavor this thin oil.

The vegetables sachet.

Spring onion flakes.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts and coriander. The rice noodles did quite well in the microwave – well hydrated. They are of varying length and widty, and easily navigable with a fork. The broth is more sweet than anything and the rice bran oil aspect of the seasoning oil stands out. Very light and sweet. 2.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8850578954029.

#1753: Thai Smile Garlic Rice Noodle Soup Bowl

I’m happy to report that this is the first post I’m doing using my new computer setup. Took a while to get everything all happy but now it’s quite happy as am I. Anyways, we found these in Lynnwood, WA at a store called BigLots. I’ve found varieties there in the past – kind of like a liquidation place. This one seems to definitely be for the western market although made in Thailand. Let’s check it out.

Detail of the cardboard outer (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, open lid partially and add in all sachet contents. Add in boiling water to ‘lower inside ridge.’ Cover and let steep for 3 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

Upon removing the cardboard outer wrap, you’re greeted by a plastic bowl with a paper lid.

In the bowl are loose rice noodles of differing lengths.

A powder soup base sachet.

A good amount of powder.

A sachet of oil.

Rice bran oil with garlic scent.

The vegetables sachet.

Little flecks of vegetables.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added coriander, mung bean sprouts and shrimp. The noodles were really interesting. The hydrated nicely and had different widths and lengths. They were soft and comfort-food in texture. The broth was a kind of combination of garlic and sweetness with a good level of oiliness. The supplied vegetable matter was hydrated decently. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8850578954036.

#480: Thai Kitchen Mushroom Rice Noodle Soup Bowl

Tried the Spring Onion last week and thought it was good so thought I ought to see if I can find more of these. Sure enough, found a couple at Safeway.

Three packets – Powder, dehydrated veggies and seasoned oil.

Here’s the contents waiting for the boiling water.

Click image to enlarge. Finished. So Not bad – a decent amount of mushrooms and the noodles taste good. The broth was tasty too. Not usually a big fan of mushrooms but I like this – 3.25 out of 5.0 stars. Find it here.

This place is all happening – Lady Gaga music and everything…

I really dig on Slurpees…
