Here’s what they had to say about this particular variety – “Yanbaru Soba is a very popular noodles restaurant in northern Okinawa, Japan’s southernmost chain of islands known for its tropical weather and pristine beaches. But what is too often and unfortunately overlooked is Okinawa’s delicious soba noodles.’

Let’s dive right in!

The noodles are just sensational – thick and wide with a nice character to them. The broth was extremely tasty with an almost bacon like quality – strong pork here. All in all, just charming. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4560372741049.

#2657: Nissin Okinawa Soba - Zenpop - Japan - The Ramen Rater

This is another one from Zenpop.jp. Zenpop is pretty cool – they have different boxes you can get – Japanese stationery, snacks, ramen… It’s quite a variety. They’re pretty cheap, too. Here’s what they had to say about this variety:

Look at the lovely summer-looking packaging! The thick and wide noodles look and taste like traditional Okinawa soba. This one is also relatively low in calories. The soup is light and flavored with bonito and pork.

Sounds great – let’s look within!

Pickled ginger.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion and chilli oil. The noodles came out very strong – chewy and a kind of flat and slightly wider gauge and thickness. The broth has a nice aroma of fish – almost smells like salmon. The bits of tempura here and there were nice, the slice of chashu thin but a nice extra. The pickled ginger was a great addition, however kind of gets lost with the other strong flavors. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4902105235683.

#148: Myojo Okinawa Soba Japanese Style Noodles With Soup Base

So been really wanting to try this one! Okinawa soba! We needed to spend a little more for the parking validation at Uwajimaya so this looked good! It’s a 5 pack – haven’t see anywhere selling individuals.

Here is an individual pack of noodles…

Two packets – powder and chili flakes.

So the powder contains some fish extract and was quite good – mackerel, salmon, bonito, tuna… Was quite a crowd of fish.

So here’s the finished product (click image to enlarge). I found the noodles to be absolutely superb – chewy and flat. The broth was complex and had a great smell and taste. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. Very good! Get it here.
