#658: Paldo Hwa King Cup Noodle Soup

Hey look! Mega-enormous Korean noodle bowl! Found this one at H Mart in Lynnwood, WA. Had the pack and the cup – now we’ll find out Hwa-ssup with this enormous King Cup! Yes we will. Yes.

Here’s all the info you could possibly want to know (click image to enlarge).

A single packet of powder seasoning – feels heavy.

Holy moly – yep, that’s a big mound of red, alien combating powder!

Finished (click image to enlarge); I let the noodles steep in the cup for two minutes and then stirred them and added an egg right smack in the middle and re-covered. Added some Ajishima Kimchi furikake, baby bok choy and a couple squirts of Texas Pete hot sauce. Noodles are pretty good – a little soft. The broth is the highlight here – red spicy heat! The veggies were here and there – decent amount. If you’re looking for a spicy noodle, this is the one, especially if you like Korean noodles. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC barcode 648436100620 – here’s the pack version.

This is a really cool video – and this guy in the beginning is really relaxed.

This is kind of interesting.

#545: Golden Wheat Korean Style Spicy Beef Cooking Noodle

Here’s another one from Nathan up in Vancouver. First off, this one’s BIG. it calls for 700mL of water and to be cooked for 5-6 minutes! Aside from this stuff, there are some oddities I noticed that were kind of interesting.

Notice the similarities? Of course those who are fans of Shin Ramyun aren’t going to say ‘hey this is Shin Ramyun, but it’s interesting to see the attempt to emulate here.

Three packets – powder, liquid and veggies.

But wait a minute – that logo looks a little familiar. The three packets are the same one that JML makes – look here. The JML brand ones were also sent by a Ramen Rater fan, Greg N. from Florida. Finally, JML is a Chinese company; so I’m just going to assume that this stuff was made in China, kind of looks like Shin Ramyun and is labeled for sale in Canada.

Yep – looks exactly the same as the JML spicy beefs too.

Click image to enlarge. Well, there was a problem. This is a different bowl. 700mL of liquid, an enormous block of noodles and two eggs wouldn’t fit in the other bowl. The noodles came out quite nice – thicker gauge than normal stuff and a little chewy. Not bad. The broth is fiery hot – definitely the JML action working here. The veggie hid a bit but then they came out and ran amok. Nicely re-hydrated veggies. It’s pretty good stuff, although quite a large amount of it. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

“The Golden Wheat” a Soviet-era song

Yet another Golden Wheat song – nothing to do with the noodles, but interesting music.

#302: Samyang Bowl Noodle Soup Yukgaejang Ramen Picante Beef Flavor

Well, I’d sworn I’d had this before but nope! That was the Nongshim stuff. Curious if this stuff is as good…

A single packet of powder…

A lovely deep red color – very nice to see!

Click image to enlarge. Added one fried egg and a pinch of Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning. So this stuff’s great – adding an egg makes it nice and tasty too. Decent heat, noodles are good and broth is red! Also, spied a couple little pieces of that spiral naruto stuff at the bottom of the bowl and they were good and fun to look at. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.
